@Netaporter - if I had known you had that part of our investigation covered I wouldn't have spent half my lunch break looking for the photo and enlarging it to check the names.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/04/2021 15:12

@OliveHenry

If anyone wants to watch the clip from Graham Norton mentioned upthread, it's here, from about 06:40

www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000sty6/the-graham-norton-show-series-28-episode-20

It's very spoilery though, so avoid if you really don't want to know!

It’s 48mins long

Where would one want to start it from if one was interested

Not saying I am. Just curious ......

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/04/2021 15:13

Hopefully no one is dead

Maybe critically Shot but recover

PussyCatEatingEasterEggs · 19/04/2021 15:19

Blondes at 06.40 from the beginning, as Olive says.
It is spoilery though.

WitnessNotSuspect · 19/04/2021 15:20

Does anyone else get really emotional about how Kate and Steve are the first person each other goes to when they need someone? Mate 😢

Netaporter · 19/04/2021 15:38

@AgentCooper and @MotherOfGodWeeFella

And for everyone else... pic 1 whole picture. Pic 2 the section Ted lingers on. Names don’t reveal much to me except one is called burnside and he was my guilty shag when I was in my very late teens Grin

To be clear, DCI Burnside from the Bill. No idea who is in that actual photo in case it is someone’s Dad I am dissing.

CoteFolie · 19/04/2021 15:41

Well..... I got AMM's new posting (before the BBC announcement 😉), and the untugged thread of Ted's visit to Lee Banks.

I didn't enjoy this episode as much. I fear JM and MC are trying to raise the tension that will be hard to maintain. The fact that the shots were against a black screen means I'm not worried about Kate.

There was also too much 'mate' between Steve and Kate and Ted is becoming a caricature. (Sorry.... )

So I'm sure Kate and Jo will survive. I'm not sure about Ryan and if he does, as others have said, what's his value now. He seemed genuinely surprised he was under surveillance. He's been operating under the radar for too long and thought he was invisible. He may be a junior police officer but he's been in the OGC for a many years. He's more than a foot soldier.

I'm not sure whether Jo is a victim or perpetrator. She's been portrayed in recent episodes as a victim but Farida was frightened when she said 'you don't know what she's capable of' and Jo probably set up Buckells. They were in cahoots at the start and Jo was probably using Buckells incompetence to hide her own agenda.

Pat Carmichael's entry was timely as it effectively meant that Jo/ Ryan could kill Kate (as instructed) without surveillance. Does that mean Pat is H or did Osborne tell her to dismantle the enquiry. I wonder how she behaves at the shootout.
Will she be suspicious of those orders after the shooting or will she continue to follow them.

I would love Pat to join forces with Ted and AC 12 to bring down the H/the CC but I suspect JM won't go there. Meanwhile we can enjoy AMM's brilliant sense of timing.

The Christopher Lawrence link took us off into a whole new area. It seems Chloe is the only one on that line of enquiry. I love the way she says 'I'll keep digging'. But is it the key or a red herring (and where do herrings fit in the mackerel and sprat hierarchy?). I hope James Nesbitt continues to be a photograph. I'm not sure I can cope.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/04/2021 15:50

We know that Ted was angry about his ex-wife being attacked by John so it makes sense that his visit to Banks was to get revenge without getting his hands dirty and the £50k to Steph was guilt money.

Yes, but I was correcting the poster who said that Banks told Steve that Ted had revealed there was a UCO. He didn't. He said there was a rat. They aren't the same thing.

I don't doubt he was pissed off about the torture and said something, I'm just correcting the inaccuracy about what Banks said Ted told him.

WitnessNotSuspect · 19/04/2021 15:55

I'm not sure whether Jo is a victim or perpetrator.
I think her tears are all for herself. She was willing to lead Kate to her potential death to save her own skin.

Absolutely and in that respect she's like Lisa McQueen. Will Jo end up in witness protection too?
LemonTT · 19/04/2021 16:12

@Ulysses

Would Jo need to disclose of an uncle that was possibly an OCG though, particularly if she was never in contact with him? She might not be aware of her true parentage. Saying that they both obviously grew up in Scotland and ended up in the same part of the Midlands
The vetting process would ask for a significant level of detail in order to establish whether you are a risk. It’s not like joining MN.

They want to know basics, name dob etc. They will ask for your birth certificate and whether you have ever used other names, who your immediate relatives are and who you are married to/ live with/ are in a relationship with. They will ask for their names, addresses and dates of birth, as well as their name at birth. You are also asked to disclose whether they or any of your associates have been involved in crime.

It’s hard to see how Jo didn’t know she was related to the Hunter family, or to at least one of them. But it’s possible. However the vetting would have uncovered it, via her mother. Unless she changed her identity or was adopted at birth. In which case they would want her adoption certificate.

Essentially, being related to a criminal would not have a total barrier. But Jo was presumably ashamed and embarrassed. She clearly lied and the OCG used that lie to corrupt her. But every time she does one thing for them she becomes more complicit. By now she may as well be hung for a sheep.

Lexilooo · 19/04/2021 16:15

Is that Freddie Mercury at police college with Ted?

Loving all the theories, I reckon Buckells is supposed to be a sort of contrast with Steve. Showing what could have happened if he'd done as Osborne told him at the beginning of series 1. It wouldn't have stopped at one lie/cover up, it would have continued, it might have been good for his career but he'd never escape. Buckells isn't bad, he's following orders and taking the easy option.

Also the Burnside name on the photo, if you check out DCI Burnside from the bill he was widely believed to be bent and was arrested for corruption but was actually deep under cover investigating bent coppers! That's a cool Easter egg!

Lexilooo · 19/04/2021 16:16

That did have paragraphs when I typed it 🙄

SophieB100 · 19/04/2021 16:26

I still maintain that if any one from the shoot out is dead, then it's Jo.

Too obvious for it to be either Kate or Ryan - just not Mercurio's style.

Mother of God, is it still only Monday?

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 19/04/2021 16:54

The official BBC Line of Duty Twitter account showed AMM was coming back and it was agreed we didn't want these spoilers on the thread. Lots of us are trying to avoid all this stuff so please don't spoil it for us.

Barbadosgirl · 19/04/2021 16:58

Mother of God, is it still only Monday?
🤣
Netaporter · 19/04/2021 17:02

@MotherOfGodHoulYerWhisht

Anything that has appeared in an aired episode is fair game I think. Specific speculation about forthcoming episodes because someone has looked up the cast on IMDb for future episodes isn’t. I think most of us watched the trailer you are referring to when it first aired. Looking at it now for most people would constitute a spoiler. If you choose to look at it, fair enough, but posting photos/stills/details of anything not yet aired for people who are actively avoiding spoilers I don’t think for most is considered cricket.

I'm glad I didn't see it because I can't stand her and I'd have been pissed off all week.
