@scarecrow22

Okay, flipped the thread and now more confused than before.

One thing that’s been bothering me for most of this series is SURELY the police would have done background checks on Ryan and Jo (as with all recruits?) and - at the v least in Ryan’s case - found out all this, er, background that the detectives are uncovering....

(And PettyPlotPoint (PPP) warning Jo lists somebody as her next-of-kin and that person is dead...is that so suspicious? Maybe her mum/aunt/sister/partner died and she didn’t immediately think “right, I must fill in form THAC-3 to change next-of-kin ASAP”. And then the moment passed, so to speak.)

PPP. Hmm, have you noticed it’s another sign of three? Hmm Hope this doesn’t fall foul of MNHQ guidelines

Re Ryan they knew he’d been a youth offender - we saw his interview and him explaining that PC Bannerjee had helped him change his life around. Nothing he’d done since then had hit the police systems.
Heyha · 19/04/2021 08:41

I had a few more thoughts...PP said Ryan looked a bit shaky on the ol' gun- he prefers to knife people doesn't he so that may point to him losing out on a gunfight with an experienced officer 🤞 as well as him now being fairly pointless, him dying is better as a dramatic device than hanging on to him and locking him up.

I think we are kind of close to Gail Vella murder being resolved- OCG ordered her to be killed to stop her interviewing (? WHO WAS IT? Need a rewatch!) the next day. At the moment looks like Carl Banks did it. Unclear why Carl Banks had to be killed later on at the moment. So the only thing we don't know is who the top brass at OCG are that would have ordered it. Therefore I think the Gail Vella storyline is at an end, pretty much, too.

I think the police racism case with Hunter's son is where Buckells first gets sucked in- he's a young officer working with Osbourne and Thurlwell so likely pressed into being complicit which has led to him making a shaky cup of tea in HMP Blackthorn. You can see all along he's not a 'proper' bent copper and that would explain it (similar to Jo- bent but not purely for personal gain). Maybe he'll come good after he's been released thanks to AMM and give up some crucial info? Although he's so scared it would have to completely end the OCG for him to feel safe. Still better that than stuck in there with Lee Banks and the dodgy prison officers.

I thought Tommy was dead but I'm starting to wonder now.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 19/04/2021 08:42

And Steve keeps being asked to see OH after his recent test, so they want to find out why he’s taking giant wodges of pain meds and probably put him on sick leave. He is ignoring them.

GreenSlide · 19/04/2021 08:42

@Buggerthebotox

I like the way Chloe's character has developed. I thought she was dodgy at first, especially last episode when she was looking decidedly uncomfortable but now the racism has been revealed, I think it's genuine distress she's displaying. I actually felt quite sorry for her when the Fairbank interview didn't go her way.
I like her too. She's cool and watchful although it doesn't seem like she's going to set the world alight. But then, not everyone can!
MazekeenSmith · 19/04/2021 08:45

@vannyy

Did Jo recognise the dead bearded man on the floor of the workshop? was he the one who gave her a burner in the car when she cried.

Also what was the significance of the guy in jail saying ask your boss re John? Did Hastings cause his death? hence the money to the wife.

Yes he was John Corbett went rogue and tortured Hastings' wife. Ted lost his head and made it personal, issuing the farenheit order which Steve ignored and then telling banks about a rat - it's not clear if he said John was the rat but seems likely. This led to John getting killed. Ted later found out that John was the son of the woman who was killed in the troubles when ted failed to protect her and that's why John hates him. Ted felt guilty and gave the money to John's wife.
BentBastard · 19/04/2021 08:45

Hey ha "Unclear why Carl Banks had to be killed later on at the moment."

It's because he shouted his mouth off in the pub heard by that Alistair Chiz guy.

Ryan's record was deleted by someone on the inside
CovoidOfAllHumanity · 19/04/2021 08:46

It was Patrick Fairbanks that Gail Vella was going to interview but then he was all demented and frail and wet himself so looks like he would not be giving anything away. Or maybe he was just pretending? Or maybe OCG thought he would give stuff away even if he didn't

OCH killing Carl Banks is easy to understand. He had 'shot his mouth off' to the CHIS so then they both needed to be killed.

Jinx covoid

swiftt · 19/04/2021 08:49

Anyone watching GMB? Adrian Dunbar has said that there’s a huge clue out there, and hardcore LOD fans know what’s going on. I don’t think I understand it enough to be a hardcore fan. Blush

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 19/04/2021 08:50

Ha! Double jinx no returns

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 19/04/2021 08:52

Gail Vella's murder has been unsolved for over a year - there's every possibility that at the time she was due to interview Fairbanks he was capable of telling her things he now can't as his dementia has progressed.

BruceAndNosh · 19/04/2021 08:53

I was having doubts about Chloe, (it's LOD, you assume everyone might be a BENT COPPER) but as mentioned up thread, she's the only one doing any work and uncovering all the important leads.
And why had no-one mentioned that the SoobyDoo lorry park had NO lorries in it? (mainly because the access gate was too small, what with it being a car park)

MoonCatcher · 19/04/2021 08:54

I don't think Nesbitt is actually going to appear in this series other than as a photo. He has just been in another Jed production and had been reported in press as saying he was unhappy he'd never been invited to do LoD. So I think Jed put his photo in last night's episode as a bit of an in-joke.

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 19/04/2021 08:54

The big Q for me is who ordered Gail Vella's killing and who is the computer guy running Jo. Are they the same person and are they H?

I don't want to think Buckells is some huge corrupt criminal mastermind. If he is then he's played a real Kaiser Soze because he absolutely convinced me that he is just a dumb patsy who has no idea what he's mixed up in.

scarecrow22 · 19/04/2021 08:55

Dailyhandtowelwash Thank you! I remember that now. I just can’t keep five episodes of possible plot mid-directions in my brain at all times.

Right, better go and do some parenting...

MotherOfGodHoulYerWhisht · 19/04/2021 08:55

Ok, not sure what constitutes as a spoiler on here but did anyone else watch Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure a few weeks ago on Graham Norton? They released a really short clip and GN was taking the piss about how little it showed. Thing is it did show quite a lot in hindsight...
It shows two out of the three characters from the shootout in a scene we haven’t seen yet. So yes, I know who got shot, or at the very least, who survives!

vannyy · 19/04/2021 08:56

@MazekeenSmith thank you I completely forget about Teds wife, John's mum etc 🤦🏻‍♀️

BentBastard · 19/04/2021 08:57

It seems clear now that Buckles is being used because of his involvement in the Lawrence Christopher death. He was complicit in the cover up (although obviously not mastermind) and is now having that held over him, thus being parachuted into every OCG related case.

MotherOfGodHoulYerWhisht · 19/04/2021 08:57

I think he’s talking about the Graham Norton clip
MoonCatcher · 19/04/2021 09:00

Re spoilers, I think it's a spoiler to repeat what a TV guide for the following week's episode says about that episode? Yes it's in the public domain but not everyone wants to or will be reading those tv guides. Similarly giving the IMDB cast list for future episodes is a potential spoiler.

I was just going to post this! Completely agree. Using a big name actor is just another red herring.

Nesbitt saying he was pissed off was just a cover story. He was in on it with Jed, and the fact that he was filming Bloodlands tied in as to why he was in Belfast.
