Stars Emily Watson and Denise Gough.

Cant say I know much about it, but hopefully it will be better than Intruder.

Please!

Better than 'Intruder' but that's not saying much!
At the dinner party one of the men asked if the children had died - surely he would have known (it sounded as if it got a lot of press coverage).

Also, these type of dramas (where we have flashbacks) always start end with us change our opinion about the 'baddie' but I can't see how that will happen here.

Even if her friend Ness has an affair with Connie's husband that wouldn't make me sympathise with her.

ilovebrie8 · 13/04/2021 09:51

Dire didn’t like it at all, won’t bother watching again tonight. Intruder last week was rubbish too! I thought the same about cars didn’t tie with their houses having the ancient cars ...

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2021 11:17

Ancient classic cars are the thing to own ( so I'm told!) not sure why as they tend to be money pits and always need work. Another status symbol I suppose.
Connie is horrible isn't she? Really annoying.
It reminds me of 'the sculptress ' a bit? Minnette Walters is the master at these kind of dramas / books.

theliverpoolone · 13/04/2021 11:58

One of the people at the picnic scene was Nina someone, actor who's been in Eastenders and Death in Paradise (Jack's girlfriend). She didnt feature at all, but I'm assuming she will do as I can't imagine her just being there as an 'extra'. Not sure I'm invested enough to keep watching to find out though!

I noticed her too!
dayswithaY · 13/04/2021 12:04

I will watch again as I'm hoping to see the fabulous Jackie Clunes again (Mrs Lamb from Motherland) in her giant black glasses.

I thought it was quite good but why would an eminent forensic psychologist let Connie rattle on for hours like that? Surely she would know she's a skilled manipulator who's just trying to mess with her head. Why wouldn't she just steer her back to the events of that night and shut down all that self indulgent faux intelligent nonsense.

Someone's watched Silence of the Lambs recently!

Arbadacarba · 13/04/2021 12:25

It was OK but did seem to embody every psychological thriller cliche I've ever seen.

Neither protagonist was likeable - I realise that's probably intended, but I'd rather be rooting for at least one character.

I'll watch again tonight.

Winniewonka · 13/04/2021 12:32

Something else struck me as I skimmed through the programme again to check who was in the car at end with Connie's husband. I thought all her injuries were sustained during the accident and wondered why it was necessary to cut her hair unless it was to deal with a head injury.
I saw that her hair was already hacked off when she was driving and she was full of burns and scabs probably self inflicted. The severe bruising and burst blood vessels in her eyes would be the result of the crash.

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2021 12:42

The physiologist could do with being on the couch herself! Obviously something has happened to her.
Was Connie's friend with her husband?

JemimaTab · 13/04/2021 13:11

I agree we are dealing with a few cliches here but I’m intrigued enough to keep going with it - for now, anyway.

At this point, I’m wondering whether Connie’s version of events is accurate - I suspect not (could be wrong, of course). The psychologist seems to be swallowing it though.

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2021 13:59

The lady doctor is called Emma ( had to look it up ) and I spelt her profession wrong below! ( I'll blame the phone for that)
I'm intrigued enough now to carry on to see why she did what she did.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 14:07

Ooh yay, thanks for starting the thread. I started one when I first saw the trailer but it was evidently too early then :o and I’ve been so focused on LOD that I’ve not been on itv at all.

I love Emily Watson so I’m looking forward to this. Didn’t see the intruder, maybe I won’t bother :o

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2021 14:28

If anyone wants a bit of a giggle then watch ' intruder' ! It was unintentionally funny at times.
This isn't as much fun although seeing the old cars is interesting ( only because I like old models of cars)

stumbledin · 13/04/2021 14:41

Hi Awkward - I started this thread because I couldn't find one - which I did think was odd. Sorry.

Am beginning to wonder if tv keep making these series where white middle class people are totally crass to try and show they aren't one of them.

I think Emily Watson's characted was a bit like Cassie, wasn't meant to be taking on work because .... ? lost a baby / child ? Just generally depressed by her work ? or her husband or ....... ?

I thought connie's short hair wig was dreadful and couldn't concentrate half the time looking at it.

But will keep watching as so little else on, and marginally better than Intruder and Syndicate.

I am not bothered enough to try and wonder what might be going on, but suspect Connie's new friend is going to somehow shown to be the manipulator.

And by the way thought Cracker was the biggest load of rubbish ever.

stumbledin · 13/04/2021 14:43

Sorry for anyone who hasn't watched Unforgotten my reference to Cassie is / was the main character in that tv series.

AwkwardArnottDentonFumble · 13/04/2021 14:50

Oh no that’s ok OP it probably went a few pages down the telly addicts board! :o was just going to bump it but saw you’d posted - all good!

I am actually rewatching the last episode of Unforgotten now (just for evenness as I watched the others again before the finale) but then I’m onto Too Close :o

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2021 14:50

Connie's new friend is definitely dodgy I think. Already a hint with the perfume, then seen at the very end with her husband! It's signposting something a bit odd there?

Wingedharpy · 13/04/2021 14:55

I thought the short hair wig was a bit of a hint to suggest some sort of self harm thing - hacking off her own flowing locks?

As an aside, I don't think I've ever seen Emily Watson in anything where she doesn't end up having sex with someone - often in the most unlikely/uncomfortable of positions.
I don't think her DH even undid his flies in the kitchen counter encounter.

LizzieMacQueen · 13/04/2021 15:04

The kitchen sex scene was cringey. She didn't undo any of her 'undergarments'. I mean, come on.

Is it a Minette Waters book then?

I wonder if drama filmed in covid times is likely to be a bit shit.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/04/2021 15:32

Ok. Wasnt fab but wasn’t as bad as most of you make out

But I’ve said before I’m obv easily pleased on tv dramas

Connie s acting was fab imo

I love 3/4 episode things esp on in same week

She’s sucking a fag (like diesel) 😂😂😂 in the park but says to Emma she doesn’t smoke

Yet steals one and lights at end of e1

Yes we don’t know the timeline from when met to car crash

So Connies hubby is having an affair with Tasha

Which tipped Connie over the edge to crash

Are her kids alive but in comas or are they dead

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/04/2021 15:36

Plus assume Emma’s daughter is dead ?

Deux · 13/04/2021 15:46

Oh I enjoyed this and I’m curious to see how it pans out. There was a RL case a few years ago where a wealthy ‘yummy mummy’ in Clapham did kill some/all? of her children. I think one of the children had a life limiting medical condition. So this kind of reminded me of that.

Agree that Intruder was beyond awful.

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2021 16:04

No, it's not a minette Walters book.
I was just making a comparison to the sort of books she does write.

the80sweregreat · 13/04/2021 16:09

I cringe at any sex scenes. That one wasn't great. Why are kitchen worktops or tables such a turn on anyway? At my age a comfy bed is far more practical ! ( not that I remember it that well to be fair, as it was a long time ago !)
(I wonder if she was sick because she is pregnant or just picked up a bug from the work tops? )

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 13/04/2021 16:21

@the80sweregreat I think she was just meant to be hungover? She told her DH she was going to carry on drinking, and he reminded her it was a schoolday.
