I saw a school friend on Waterloo road years ago.

A particularly disliked family member was on Trisha i think it was , can't quite remember but it was one of those stages like Jeremy Kyle but with a woman. My somewhat upwardly mobile DM rang me to tell me in hugh dudgeon that this woman could be so terribly tacky and common , until I asked evily why my DM was watching Trisha in the first place Grin (nothing wrong at all with watching it but it would have horrified my DM that anyone would know she watched such a thing Hmm)

The woman was truly horrible and unpleasant and continued that theme on the show. As a huge plus I could then make DM squirm any time I mentioned it for the next ten years Grin result. especialky because the woman was married to her family so she couldn't even blame DF's lesser family Grin

Yes, some friends and their kids were on some sort of family game show once, can't remember what it was called though.

I know one of the Royal Ballet dancers, and see him on telly every so often.

Another friend has been in Midsomer Murders.

Adelais · 10/04/2021 15:53

Someone I went to school with is in Game of Thrones which is one of my favourite shows.

salsmum · 11/04/2021 04:54

My DS purchased a 'willys jeep' on an episode of wheeler dealers'. He was also on a football advert where a crowd in a pub sang a savage garden song, he also starred as an extra in a ballroom scene in a film called Vera.... his identical twin boys were also in a scene in a drama series.

TitsInAbsentia · 11/04/2021 08:55

Lots of people I know on various game shows etc

My estranged brother in a prison documentary... As an inmate...

MrsToothyBitch · 11/04/2021 10:14

Quite a few! One of my best friends was interviewed on Sky News last month in his St John Ambulance role about helping to deliver the COVID vaccine roll-out!

My best friend was on a BBC game show that only lasted one series- Epic Win. You can still see her on YouTube and she is still very into the thing that got her on there.

My old history teacher won or got quite well through 15 to 1 I think. Another acquaintance from that school was on Antiques House on Sky with her mum. Also a teacher in the junior dept of that school was in a Songs of Praise choir. We had progress reports on their preparation and people tuned in to see her- I think someone managed to freeze frame it. Same school also had a few people get to be cheerleaders on SMTV Live- we all tuned in to watch. One of my drama teachers had been in Brookside, too for a few eps. The glamour!

A boy I went to VI form with is an actor and was the face of a Pizza Hut ad in Europe and another boy in my year played rugby for England so was on TV a bit- super tall so hard to miss him. A girl from that school is now a Dr and was interviewed on the TV news after running out to help treat Westminster Bridge attack victims. She's actually a really horrible person though so that was strange to watch- although she obviously did a wonderful thing.

Someone I knew vaguely at uni turned up in a 3-line role in The Windsors and someone else I vaguely know from my hobby works for BoJo so has been on the news in that capacity. Someone I used to quiz against also popped up as a feted team captain/unstoppable answer machine on Uni Challenge and one of my best friends has been on a date with Bobby Seagull of Uni Challenge fame!

Someone a few years above me at school who left randomly partway through VI form turned up on Baby Beauty Queens running a pageant franchise! It was a bit of a change from school where she was best known for having really long hair, a floaty/fussy taste in clothes and shoes and being the only girl in school to play the harp! She had a really god awful surname which she had understandably changed to a very clearly made up one. They used a venue very near me for their pageant and I got my mum to check it was them as unbelievable amount of coincidences otherwise and she recognised the very wafty mum as well as the daughter!

Oh also someone on couples come dine with me. She was VERY proud about it, it was the highest level of cringe ever.

Arrierttyclock · 11/04/2021 11:58

Not really me but my husbands cousin is an actress so we see her quite a lot and he went to school with Ben the magician

Arrierttyclock · 11/04/2021 11:59

A lot of people in my work don't know I was on the chase until I come up on the yearly bloopers

Arrierttyclock · 11/04/2021 11:59

Oh I forgot my friend is a Bbc news presenter!

PurBal · 11/04/2021 12:05

Yes. Mostly work related. I used to work in the entertainment industry, and my current job means I work with a lot of public figures.

Oneeyeopen · 11/04/2021 12:10

In the 1960's I was about 9.
I remember my dm's sil, who was married to my very quiet uncle.
She was an Enoch Powell supporter and a racist

My poor dm when my aunt was on TV bring interviewed.
We all cringed.

Oneeyeopen · 11/04/2021 12:11

being

rwalker · 11/04/2021 12:15

Shared a hot tub in lets say "adult club health club" watching the local new program and they were interviewing him about school funding .
He was a primary head teacher .

Callywalls · 11/04/2021 12:19

An old neighbour of mine was in "Finding Alice" She played the Coroner at the inquest and I thought she was fantastic in the part. I hadn't seen her for years and it was a lovely surprise.

longtompot · 11/04/2021 12:22

My daughters friend was on an extra slice with a cake she baked. It was a surprise to see her.

PinkSkyBlue · 11/04/2021 12:26

Jeremy Kyle before he was on tv, was a bossy gitt even back then

topcat2014 · 11/04/2021 12:28

My father has been on TV a few times over the years.
He won "The Weakest Link"
and has been on Channel 5 news talking about astronomy etc.

topcat2014 · 11/04/2021 12:30

Daughters friends parents were in game of thrones

longtompot · 11/04/2021 12:33

Just remembered, a friend was in the background of the arresting suite in 24 hours in police custody. She's a policewoman.

hellcatspangle · 11/04/2021 12:35

Someone I knew from school was on come dine with me and won it...he was bullied as a kid for being gay, it was lovely to see him doing so well for himself (his house is lovely and he's clearly in a happy relationship)

n00bie · 11/04/2021 12:42

A few, including myself. My workplace was featured on a local news article a few years back, and myself and a few colleagues were seen briefly in the background. A relative works for a charity that has been featured on the news more than once, and I’ve seen them in the background too.

Someone my friend briefly dated was on either Trisha or Jeremy Kyle, can’t remember which, when he had drama in his next relationship. That was cringe-worthy and I couldn’t keep watching.

I did some work experience at a non-league football club as a teen, and spent a fair bit of time with the chairman and owner. When they had a decent run in the FA Cup several years later, it was strange to see him interviewed on TV in the same way as the big name premiership club owners. Especially as I hadn’t watched the match, just walked in to a room and this guy I knew was being interviewed on Sky Sports.

JustanotherTuesday · 11/04/2021 13:05

I've just remembered my brother went to school with a boy who starred as a naked man in a National Lottery advert Smile They lived in our village.

PepeSilviaDoesNotExist · 11/04/2021 18:54

Went to school with an X factor contestant. They ended up being in a very successful boyband and they are now very famous. It blows my mind when I think where they came from.

fussychica · 11/04/2021 19:30

DH several times as a contestant on 15 to 1, DS on Spanish regional news items on a couple of occasions and an episode of Hinterland when at University. I was on an arts programme on BBC2 called Arena as a student many, many years ago.
