I saw a school friend on Waterloo road years ago.

@saffire

Yes a boy that I knew that had learning difficulties was on Britain's got Talent. The only judge that wasn't awful to him was Piers Morgan. It was pretty clear that he had special needs and I think it's sickening that they let him audition so people can get a laugh out of him. I haven't watched it since then.
Ohhh, that has given me a sore heart. How awful and how sad.
Happycat1212 · 08/04/2021 02:16

Someone from my school was on Jeremy Kyle

FrenchyQ · 08/04/2021 02:18

An ex boyfriend was on the salon on channel 4, he had his chest waxed on live tv

Wingedharpy · 08/04/2021 02:31

My BIL was on the National news once and my DH was filmed, without his knowledge, on a piece for the local news.
Neither of them are criminals or bad lads in any way.

SimonJT · 08/04/2021 02:55

Yes a few, including my ex multiple times.

I was on once as an industry ‘expert’ I was nominated when work was approached, so forced in to it as everyone else had said no.

Rhubarb01 · 08/04/2021 07:06

I met Jeremy Kyle in a work situation when he had a normal job. Was a bit shocked when he ended up on TV - perhaps I shouldn't have been! Also saw a lad I knew at uni in an episode of The Bill. Just as surprised as I had no idea he was into acting.

ThisIsMeOrIsIt · 08/04/2021 07:23

Someone from school (who left and went to stage school) did the usual Casualty/The Bill/London's Burning appearances as an extra and was also the voice for a commercial. I haven't seen her on TV since.

PuppyMonkey · 08/04/2021 07:27

Someone I went to school with years ago turned up on Location Location Location acting like a right smug git.Grin

schroeder · 08/04/2021 07:30

An ex boyfriend pops up occasionally, he hasn't changed a bit in 30 years!Grin

Suzi888 · 08/04/2021 07:31

My DH Grin

JustDanceAddict · 08/04/2021 07:32

Only people I know who are actors or ‘experts’.
No-one ‘random’ from my life - that would be fun though to see someone in a quiz show.

cricketmum84 · 08/04/2021 07:35

I know a couple of people work work as extras on soaps so see them pop up quite regularly.

One of my kids teachers was on the cube a few years ago.

HairboStrawb · 08/04/2021 07:37

I went to school with someone who was in a few small films and then in Waterloo road from the start for a few series. She's also done other small tv bits.

It was always strange seeing her in school in between her filming

fluffythedragonslayer · 08/04/2021 07:42

Someone I used to work with appeared on X Factor and got as far as judges houses. He was the laziest person ever at work!

A mum of a child I had worked with in a childcare setting appeared on The Trisha Show (this was about 20 years ago!)

EspressoExpresso · 08/04/2021 07:49

A friend on embarrassing bodies

Several friends on various quiz/game shows - the chase, tipping point, deal or no deal etc

Dr Alice Roberts was one of my lecturers at uni

fairydustandpixies · 08/04/2021 08:03

Yes - me, several times doing an unusual hobby!

fairydustandpixies · 08/04/2021 08:05

Oh, Britain's Got Talent - a then customer of mine was on singing about her dead cat 😱

wonkylegs · 08/04/2021 08:07

Yes quite a bit
My neighbour is a regional news presenter
DH has featured several times on the news due to his work as have several of our friends (especially over the past year)
My ex is a stage actor but did some TV adverts and his actress wife has had some supporting parts on big US dramas.
My brother was a participant in a game show - he humiliated himself but won a trip to NYC
A kid that featured in a long running crisp advert was in my tutor group at school.

FelicityPike · 08/04/2021 08:08

Me! At a sporting weekend. I was sitting in the front row and was seen a lot.

ProfYaffle · 08/04/2021 08:10

Dh's surgeon was on Surgeons at the Edge of Life. He was featured in a few episodes - the patients were mostly OK!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 08/04/2021 08:11

Lots! Ones we just stumbled across: an old friend of DHs on Family Fortunes; 3 people on Come Dine With Me (each in different competitions); people involved in one of the social events on Cheshire Housewives; Someone I grew up with who became a successful financial expert on the news.

I also have a friend who was a Sky Newsreader and a friend whose daughter is on our local news.

CurlsandCurves · 08/04/2021 08:11

One of those police interceptor programmes has one of my police officer neighbours on it most episodes.

A good friend of mine is an actor, been in loads of things, including pretty much every soap going at least once over the years. I love watching the latest role she’s playing (she was in a couple of episodes of Doctors a few weeks ago).

TerrifiedandWorried · 08/04/2021 08:14

Someone I knew was on Embarrassing Bodies. No one could look him in the eye at work the next day. He actually killed himself a couple of years later. It was incredibly sad.

YawnyOwl · 08/04/2021 08:15

A boy in my English class (who was absolutely dreadful to his gf/my friend, but that's another story) was on Bargain Hunt. I think they made £20 profit and got to keep the fleece!

One which stayed with me... A documentary about transitioning, they showed the home life of a man who transitioned. His marriage had been destroyed and his wife was clearly very unsure and uncomfortable... I recognised her as a colleague from a workplace I'd just left! She was always very kind to me. Not sure what I'd have done if I'd still been there, was strange and sad... Sad

wonkylegs · 08/04/2021 08:18

Oh yes and one of my tutors from uni now has his own tv show and is a fairly recognisable TV personality. I was introduced to him at an event where he was the celebrity guest and surprised everyone by chatting like old friends as we'd known each other for 20odd years
