I saw a school friend on Waterloo road years ago.

OP posts:
HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 08/04/2021 08:21

A couple of people I went to school with have starred in various films and tv programmes

BlackAlys · 08/04/2021 08:24

My DH!

During a rugby match in the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Camera man and commentators zoomed in on him after our country scored a cracking try and my mild mannered calm DH was dancing and gyrating like a man on speed with a samurai band around his head and a giant inflatable leek rammed down the front of his trousers. He literally boinged up and down while doing a hip thrust (Dear.God) in celebration, and got the piss utterly ripped out of him. Commentators played it back on live TV after the match, laughing hysterically.

Then had about 30 copies of it sent within hours to my WhatsApp back home from delighted and hysterical friends and family. Still have a copy and I like to get it out when serious, mild-mannered DH is telling the DC's to quieten down when they're excited about something Grin

This is many years ago...

We were watching a ‘show’ about criminals and there was this guy that kept two women kidnapped in his house for like two years, obviously as sex slaves.

And when the picture comes up in the screen, it’s the guy that sold us our car! (dealership, not private).

The scary thing is that my husband had mentioned that when he went for the test drive with him, the guy had said that he liked my accent (I’m not English), and I felt so cared he could have seen me as a target....

TracyHorrobin · 08/04/2021 08:28

Very recently. A friend and his daughter were on Grayson Perry's art programme.

BikeRunSki · 08/04/2021 08:29

My uncle (a vicar) was interviewed on the news a couple of times after some bad news relating to his town.

I work for a national government body. My local and regional colleagues are interviewed in the media pretty oftentimes. I’ve somehow let my media training slide...

A friend from 6th form asked a question on Question Time about 10 years ago (20years after leaving school), and his architectural practice was featured on one of those C4 property development programmes.

Friend of mine was part of the gardening team when DIY SOS did a show locally.

An acquaintance from university was on a bbc documentary about the Lake District. He’s a fell runner - always was - apparently now quite well known.

MrsMidgeMaisel · 08/04/2021 08:29

@chienloup - I know the person you are talking about, what a small world. He is a friend of a friend!

Coachee · 08/04/2021 08:37

Quite a few really. These are all the ones I can immediately think of:

Me - a documentary was filmed at my work, and completely unknown to me, a close up shot of my face was taken whilst I was looking intently at a computer screen. I appeared for a full three seconds Grin and was very surprised to see myself!

A friend of DH has been on mastermind.

My aunt’s ex-husband appeared on one of those programmes about nightmare neighbours (as the person complaining).

We met a friend of a friend at a festival and subsequently on nights out, and it turned out he was an actor who appeared regularly in various TV dramas.

Former classmate is now a pop star, another is a comedian who has done both stand up and their own sitcom type show.

GordonsAlive85 · 08/04/2021 08:49

One of my old students was in the live heats of BGT a few years ago and an ex colleague was on golden balls, her game plan was awful if I remember rightly

sashh · 08/04/2021 09:24

I was once in the background of a news piece, I didn't know I was being filmed.

I was watching Only connect recently and thought, 'he looks familiar', it was my cousin.

Half of my degree was Deaf Studies so I often see interpreters I know or used to know.

Oh and I saw an old uni friend in an episode of 'New Tricks'.

I saw an old work colleague on TV, something to do with holidays and he said, "I've been coming to Cornwall for 20 years I won't go anywhere else".

I remember when I worked with him and his wife wanted to go away to Spain on holiday, he didn't want to go because, "I've been abroad once, they say they have English food, but they don't, it's different"

It summed up hi attitude to life very well.

Awww, I used to teach him. He's a nice lad, although definitely not a hint of how camp he was on the TV when he was at school!

Piggywaspushed · 08/04/2021 09:37

Yes! I went to school with Susan Calman and was he near neighbour and friend of her DSis. She is always on the flaming telly!

I had a school friend who popped up in Waterloo Road, too, and a separate one in Monarch of The Glen.

I was on Open To Question once and asked the first question to Denis Healey.

I also taught tow lads who are now sportsmen. I always feel all motherly when they pop up on interviews postmatch/race.

Finzi · 08/04/2021 09:37

Yes, someone I know was on Pointless, and 2 acquaintances were on ‘Who do you think you are?’ (as expert historians who were consulted, not as the subject of the programme). And I was at school with someone who is now an expert in her field and has done a lot of TV/radio documentaries.

My Mum was once interviewed for local TV news, and I have been for local radio news (both just roving reporter ‘person on the street’ type interviews).

Bluntness100 · 08/04/2021 09:40

Yes, a colleague went on 15:1, he proper tanked, and two friends went on five gold rings with Scholefield. Apparently you only get the money you won if they air your specific game, they did and they did, but it’s not a case you get it just because you won it and you need to wait awhile before you find out.

JosephineBaker · 08/04/2021 09:53

Lots! Neighbourhood lads who babysat for us were always on telly as extras in stuff. One has also been in films.

The pub landlord I worked for when I was a student was in Brookside regularly. Another lass I knew from work went on to get a regular role in Coronation Street and was on I’m a Celebrity.

Several quiz shows things like Mastermind, Pointless.
I’ve been on a few times for various reasons - I had a friend in Sweden tell me she saw me on BBC World news when I thought I was doing a bit for the local news.

RedcurrantPuff · 08/04/2021 09:55

Yes a girl I used to work with was on surprise surprise

Redcrayons · 08/04/2021 09:57

I turned on the tv and the coverage for London marathon was on. Front and centre of the screen was one of my running friends. It was so well timed it was like a film cliche.

mamaduckbone · 08/04/2021 10:51

Someone I was at uni with does extras work - I saw her on a bus in a drama series once, but can't remember which one. Also someone else I was at uni with was on the Pottery Throw Down, although it wasn't someone I knew, and someone I worked with was on the Sky Portrait Artist of the Year.

MagicMatilda · 08/04/2021 11:02

Someone from our school was on Jeremy Kyle when we were in sixth form...everyone ran home to watch it! Was a big day at our school haha

Constance11 · 08/04/2021 11:02

I used to work with Glenn Cosby who was on bake-off in 2013. I also unexpectedly saw myself, DH and DS on TV - a friend was having a reality TV filmed about them and we happened to be staying with them one weekend of filming. I'd kind of forgotten about it as the TV show didn't come on until around a year later, and got an excited call from my mother-in-law telling us to turn on the TV!

WeeWillyWanky · 08/04/2021 14:32

Yes- my DH was interviewed on TV about an archaeological dig he was on.

Ladymouse · 08/04/2021 15:02

I went to school with someone from Eastenders and knew someone who went on XFactor.
My neighbours dad went on who wants to be a millionaire.
My brother was friends with Russ Abbotts granddaughter in little school we went round there regularly but I didn't know he was famous and then I saw him on telly one day and was so shocked (I was only 9 at the time). I remember when I first ever met him he asked how old I was and I said 8 and he said I was 8 when I was your age. Everyone found It funny and was like 🙄.

Mydogisagentleman · 08/04/2021 15:16

An ex boyfriend was on the news talking about disconnecting the electric supply to a weed grow

HollowTalk · 08/04/2021 15:24

The guy who used to clean our wheelie bins was on Jeremy Kyle - bit of a sad case really as he was a really nice guy but he was an alcoholic and just seemed so lost about what to do.

My brother's ex is a historian - she's been on Who Do You Think You Are - I reckon she's on here, so hi, if you are!

My son's music is played on TV regularly.

BodyRocks80s · 08/04/2021 15:32

Myself as a teenager being interviewed about British beef and mad cow disease. I was just randomly stopped while walking through town.

Myself again, 6 o’clock news, again being randomly interviewed about rural bus services. My Nan looked at me and said “your in for it now” as I was supposed to be in school at the time . Not my brightest move 😬

Again myself on Top of the Pops many many years ago.

My aunties ex husband was on surprise surprise

Friends parents were on strike it lucky

Friends ex boyfriend on the news about a serious incident. I only saw this as she sent me a link to it to show how old he looked (he didn’t treat her well)

Old school friend on come dine with me.

Another old school friend on that landscape artist show.

A guy I use to work with years ago on an episode of Dr Who.

hiredandsqueak · 08/04/2021 15:34

Saw somebody on Jeremy Kyle, she was portrayed as a saint and bf a bastard but truth be told there wasn't much to choose between them in real life. I was somewhat entertained to see a lot of her family in support who must have had a wash for the occasion.
