@BigSandyBalls2015

Sad case tonight, and only 21.

The male PC interviewing seemed rather odd!

Yes I recognised the detective interviewing him from the previous series and he was rather impressive before. Those comments about the perpetrator's "distinctive" looks seemed very ill judged to me though in this episode.

Very sad case. He was so young and had had a horrible neglectful upbringing. And now his DC won't have a father at home and he had been dealing too so probably the lives of some of his 'customers' will be damaged too. I thought the worst bit was when the pc read our from his file that he had taken refuge in drugs and alcohol at the age of eight.

TulipFields · 30/03/2021 09:15

The poor traumatised victim, but also the poor 4 year old Justice who was reported to be neglected and injured and nothing was done to help him. If only he could have been adopted by a loving family as a newborn, his life could have been very different.
I thought it was possible the children didn't understand what was happening and felt safe with their mum so didn't cry.

TulipFields · 30/03/2021 09:26

She remained calm even though it must have been stressful. If she'd panicked it probably would have distressed the children

RubyFakeLips · 31/03/2021 15:18

Did anyone else think Barry Price must have done this to other girls?

The fact both incidents were so similar, he had his routine practiced, and that he was using social media makes me think he would have done this to others before or at least been trying to. The girls had such different accents, different to his too, I wondered if he’d persuaded them to come far.

I’ve just caught up after watching the second episode first. So glad the series is back but what sad tragic cases they’ve both been.

purpleme12 · 31/03/2021 22:48

Really sad episode

tsmainsqueeze · 31/03/2021 23:14

I also felt sorry for Justice , not excusing his crimes ever , but what a sad start to a life that could have been so different .
I found the phone call to his girlfriend particularly sad ,he seemed loving and gentle to her , also quite eloquent when talking about his children and the things he has done wrong .
I'm glad the victim has justice but hope prison is a positive experience for him , education etc.
Also agree how strange the male p.o came across .

apurplecar · 01/04/2021 09:54

@Anne1958

It was very sad and upsetting all round.

The male police officer made a fool of himself when always emphasising ‘Justice’ when speaking and far from Justice having a mullet I thought his hair was beautiful.

I too though the officer was a knobhead
margotleadbeter · 01/04/2021 12:09

The male civilian investigator didn't even try to hide his racism towards Justice. He made himself look like a knob. It was telling that Justice smiled when the investigator was being rude about his appearance as he just knew where it was coming from and wasn't prepared to be provoked.

Thank you for being prepared to describe the behaviour for what it was! Completely racist and disgusting.
STARmyarse · 01/04/2021 13:51

Omg! I was going to come on this thread and and say exactly the same thing as others have.

‘Straggly hair’ Hmm

Appalled.

margotleadbeter · 01/04/2021 14:12

@MeadowHay it wasn't even thinly veiled was it? Like something out of a fly on the wall from the 80's.
I genuinely think that with intensive support over years dealing with his childhood trauma Justice has rehabilitation potential.
I sincerely hope Jakob can rebuild his life too.

Anne1958 · 01/04/2021 14:25

I got the impression the policeman was trying to come across as a hardman, or perhaps be the bad cop to a colleagues good cop. Whatever it was though it only made him look like a complete and utter idiot.

RubyFakeLips · 01/04/2021 17:40

As a pp said, that policeman has been on the series before and was really good, at least I remember him coming across well.

Not sure what was going on here, I wondered if he was trying to provoke a reaction or something? Especially because in the CCTV of Justice his hair wasn't actually visible, think it was tied up, so yeah, bizarre.

margotleadbeter · 01/04/2021 18:06

He's a civilian police investigator (often ex cops but not always). I've seen him on before but he didn't strike me as anymore than ok. He absolutely let himself down with this and I'm surprised the senior leadership team in Bedfordshire Police were happy to sign this off for broadcast

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 01/04/2021 18:19

I remember the interviewer too. He was great before.

Do I think it the words used had racist overtones? No. I can smell that a mile off.

To me, I think it was a misjudged attempt at humour (as with the justice Justice) and/or a misguided attempt to build a rapport or to get a reaction from Justice.

It could be that someone described Justice as having straggly hair and a beard and he just repeated it. I don’t know. It was strange but I didn’t feel it anything other than that.

I could weep for Jakob. He must have been terrified.

I could weep for 4year old Justice. I could weep for 8 year old Justice who found comfort in drink and drugs and the damage that caused to create the life of adult Justice. I don’t believe that cannabis is harmless (I know a lot of people disagree) and it can only have added to the damage already done to him.

I don’t excuse his crimes.

But what appals me is that his silent cries for help as a child and desperate calls for help as an adult were not listened to. He was not heard.

That is what is appalling.

I hope he now gets the help he needs. I hope Jakob finds his peace in Poland.

The tears I could shed for these two... it is all just tragic.

In comparison - think of the utter lack of remorse from Barry last week. I think Justice could lead a good life (on what we were shown) if he gets the help he has always sought.

I think your chap from last week will continue to show only contempt for society and sow misery wherever he goes.

RevolvingPivot · 05/04/2021 08:46

His hair wasn't straggly in the slightest. It was long and curly.

I was shocked at his sentence. I suppose though it was pure luck that no one was killed. I hope he gets help.

Selkiebride · 05/04/2021 08:52

The only reason people felt sorry for this guy is because he is quite attractive, if he had face tattoos and a shaved head, people would just discount him like the rest of the "thugs" and "chavs". Those less palatable people had terrible upbringings too.

RevolvingPivot · 05/04/2021 08:54

I don't think he's attractive he's probably young enough to be my son.

SheldonesqueIsAlmostHuman · 05/04/2021 08:55

It wasn’t what he looked like but he did seem sorry.

Unlike the one last week.

You're wrong. How could you possibly know what we're all thinking.

I had zero sympathy for him until he opened up about his childhood. So it wasn't about looks for me at all. Not least because I didn't actually find him attractive anyway

MyHouse2011 · 05/04/2021 10:07

@SakuraEdenSwan1

Wow this episode was really sad all round, Justice was literally like 2 different people.

Loving we are back at Luton with the original staff from way back, I love this programme and how hard hitting it is. It made my 9 year old sit up and take notice, the true reality of the damage guns can do and not just in video games.

Did you let your 9 year old watch this @SakuraEdenSwan1??
margotleadbeter · 05/04/2021 10:33

It was how talked about finding the peace he'd ever known through playing with his children, how he talked about how things might have been different if someone had played with him and the solicitor talking about his childhood that all helped me see beyond the criminal actions. Wouldn't have cared if he had a spiders web tattooed on his face and no teeth. Just as my sympathy for Jakob wasn't influenced by him being relatively attractive or was impacted by him being Polish. I can be empathetic to human suffering regardless of the 'good looking' scale

I think you are right to a great extent. I thought he was exceptionally attractive - such a sweet, pretty face and big, sad puppy-dog eyes. I found myself feeling very sorry for him and I did question myself about why that was. Yes his demeanor (after the awful attack of course, not at the time) was soft and personable, his letter was eloquent and sounded heart-felt and his back story was tragic. But, as you say, if he had looked like a thug I'm not sure those other elements alone would have provoked such a reaction from me.
margotleadbeter · 05/04/2021 18:12

@thecatneuterer I whole heartedly disagree. Unless you are a superficial person lacking in any empathy, his story was a heart jerker regardless of how he looked. I have watched many programmes like this over the years and the appearance of the person has always been irrelevant as I listen to what they say and how they do/don't show insight or remorse. Suggesting Justice's 'attractiveness' is the only reason anyone shows a balanced and sensitive response to his child abuse experiences and its impact on his crimes is insulting to the vast majority of clear thinking people

Anne1958 · 05/04/2021 18:17

I certainly was attracted to Justice. He’s only 7 years older than my eldest grandchild.
