Anyone just see it? Good for her. What a horrible tag line. They're clueless.

Good on patsy. Done with grace and clarity

BronwenFrideswide · 17/03/2021 12:08

Good for her. The interview was supposed to be about:

I was supposed to be on there to talk about my new business that I have created that couldn't be more opposite to that headline.

Yet Ben started the interview with a nonsense question about the Ricky phrase, Susannah then brought Harry and Meghan into it, and no doubt would have continued that line of questioning. After Patsy left Ben had this to say:

The important thing is our intention was to never upset Patsy Palmer, we were very keen to talk to her about wanting to come on, she's talked in the past, she's talked in her book particularly about her addiction and stints in rehab. Now she has a wellness brand and promoting that, it's the journey she has been on to get to where she is today and what she's learned in her life, and that's what we mistakenly misread to understand.

In other words all they wanted to talk about was her past issues and journey, with a side order of Harry and Meghan comments, no wonder she switched off.

Serious question- why do you all start your day off watching that hideously negative programme? I can’t imagine anything worse than absorbing all of that negativity and judgment of others in the early part of the day.
I watch it every single weekday. I also watch lots of other news programmes including Ch4 news which often focusses on what is happening in places other than the UK. Last night it was Syria. I don't watch Love Island or Game of Thrones because I find them disgusting but that's my choice and my opinion.
MintyMabel · 17/03/2021 12:22

Oh fgs, don’t make it a gender issue. I’d have said exactly the same were it a male guest.

You'd suggest a male guest should be "more elegant"? Doubt it.

MarieDelaere · 17/03/2021 12:36

Surreptitious or serendipitous? That's a baby names thread right there.

riceuten · 17/03/2021 12:37

I am not a fan of flounces and 2 in the space of a week is faintly ridiculous.

I can’t imagine anything worse than absorbing all of that negativity and judgment of others in the early part of the day. I don’t. And neither do many other people here. GMB is like the tabloids of television along with sky news. And PP absolutely will have known that, so she won’t have been surprised at either the questioning or the strap line.

If it was a random person off the street then yes. But someone who has spent their life in the media spotlight absolutely knows what they’re going into by agreeing to be interviewed on there. And given PM’s storming off last week and the immense publicity that generated she absolutely knew what would happen if she did the same.

Not only the Ricky thing but IIRC did Ben (or SR) wedge in a reference to her being like MM and PH by moving to California? Hmm

Yes, never let an opportunity to wedge in MM & PH pass and then re-route the entire discussion to them.
Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2021 13:52

Looking at a PPs Instagram post she said she wasn’t on there to talk about MM and PH I agree the talk would have turned to that was well.

Serious answer. Many of us - you included I assume? - don't watch GMB but clips or stories about it appear on various places so it's not hard to come across and view/discuss them.

But even for those that do watch and enjoy it, it's not your place to question nor is there any need for the snobbery around it. It's a TV show, people's tastes vary.

Yes she was on for a 5 minutes slot, no doubt had she not ended the interview it would have been 4 minutes 30 seconds talking about those two and a quick "so you've got some new haircare products out" at the very end.

To the PP asking why we watch it - I generally don't, I find the whole programme toxic, I just happened to be flicking through this morning while drying my hair and thought "oh, Patsy Palmer, I wonder what she's up to these days?"...

I didn't actually watch past Ben's question about people shouting "Ricky" so I didn't see the rest, but if I was her I'd have ended the interview then.

I bet absolutely nobody in the general public has shouted Rickaaaaaay at her for years, yet these pathetic journalists and presenters ask it as if it's the most original hilarious question she'll have ever heard. I marvelled at her restraint in answering it.

It’s not my place? I haven’t said don’t watch I asked why watch, very different.

There is no snobbery around asking what motivates people to choose to start their day with such a negative programme. It’s rarely positive and more often than not has argumentative discussions. It’s an odd choice to wake up and put on, I’m sure if people step back and think about it they would agree.

VanillaIce · 17/03/2021 14:19

Actually mintymabel you’re making me realise elegant is a word I use quite often and I don’t mean it in the sense of a demure lady twirling her parasol. At work we will regularly talk about “elegant solutions” and yes, “not handled very elegantly” just to mean perhaps not with good grace or smartly done etc etc

Semantics. Let’s move on. I really didn’t mean she should have acted like an “elegant lady”.

Standrewsschool · 17/03/2021 15:35

Part of me thinks that if she hadn’t had this soap-star post, she wouldn’t be on tv flogging her beauty products. You don’t see the CEO of Tresemme launching their latest product on GMB. By having that tag-line, they were making it more of a relevant story, rather than advert.

Roussette · 17/03/2021 15:45

It's not QVC! She was, as I understand it, going to talk about wellness, life in Malibu, her new company, whatever...

She has said this. And I agree. How horrible to be labelled after such a long time after Ben Shepherd waffled about taking it from her book.

“I haven’t written a book in 20 years so don’t believe that either,” the actor and entrepreneur wrote. “Guess what people!!!!! People change and grow and live happy healthy lives, so stop trying to make people small and worthless. Finish it now.”

ForwardRanger · 17/03/2021 15:52
@Alsohuman so as i asked before, please explain?
alsohuman is right. It was not a "publicity stunt" and your assertions are way off. That simply isn't how live TV works. It was a clumsy set up that fell apart.

ForwardRanger · 17/03/2021 15:59

@sandragreen

I have met PP and in RL she is absolutely lovely.

I think she has a touch of resting bitch face but she was entitled not to continue with the interview if she didn't want to.

Why on earth would she be interested in answering questions about ex members of the Royal Family or whatever they are now?

This thing "I met someone once and she's lovely" is curious. Most people can "be lovely", that doesn't really inform this discussion.

The question is why should she "be lovely"? How about if she is a real person with family and work and feelings who has decoded to leave an interview because the context was misrepresented to her? Would that be OK?

As for the "resting bitch face" comment, that is very misogynistic and adds nothing to the discussion other than inform us that you are inclined to be sexist.

sandragreen · 17/03/2021 16:23

@ForwardRanger - who rattled your cage? I have applied the RBF comment to men before. The reason I mentioned it was in response to people who said she looked grumpy when she first joined the call. Some people genuinely just look like that when they are perfectly happy - male and female.

When I met PP she had every reason to not be lovely as something very horrid had just happened, so I appreciated how charming she was over the hours we spent together. That's why I mentioned that I thought her lovely. It's easy to be nice when things are going well isn't it?

You seem very very engaged and tetchy about the event. This is the Telly Addicts Forum, not AIBU. I shall leave you to your issues whatever they may be and flounce hide thread Grin

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2021 17:34

I bet she wonders if she can get through any interview without some numpty mentioning 'Rickaaay'. Hmm
I just got home and asked DH if he heard about it (he didn't see it this morning). He said 'yes she told Ben and Susanna to fuck off didn't she?' Grin I mean not quite but kind of- yes.

Very good point.

And just like that you resort to personal attack.

Why is that? Is it because I pointed out the misogyny in your post? Was that a bit confronting for you?

Here's the thing, your comments, while superficially "nice" are deeply misogynistic and that you have no insight into that is sad. And that when it is explained to you that you resort to personal attack, that is sad too.

Women need to stop resorting to misogyny to prop up their egos. There's enough crap directed by men, why would you add to that?
