Spoiler-free thread to discuss the upcoming Marvel series on Disney+.

I wasn't excited about this but the trailer has made me excited. Unlike WandaVision, the trailer and promo art make it fairly obvious (I think) who one of the Big Bads will be. Also looks like it will be quite funny, carrying on the energy that Sam and Bucky had in Captain America Civil War.

Disney Plus (Mandalorian, then WandaVision) had become our Friday night the entire family watched whilst eating our chippy tea ritual

But dd has now returned back to college. So she is setting up a zoom link and we are having a watch party with her.

I enjoyed it more than I expected. I wasn't sure I could get into it in the same way I got into Wandavision but I'm liking it so far

Just managed to watch it and that was fabulous. Great story telling and it looks we’re going to be in for a rollercoaster ride.

Does anyone else watch Screen Crush after the programme? The advert in the middle of it is a pain but the rest is good.

I loved Wandavision, but I'm loving falcon and the winter soldier and you cant really compair them as there both so different which is a good thing.

Loved it - was so annoyed when it ended!
It's great that both actors are now going to be able to explore & expand their characters now. So glad Seb Stan has had a haircut!

I thought it was excellent! A great mix of intimate, quiet moments when we find out more about the characters and big action packed scenes. I have a real soft spot for the Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier character in particular and it was so gratifying to watch the therapy scene. I enjoyed how we got to learn about the after effects of the 'blip' on normal people, like Sam's sister, which was not really covered in the films. I can't wait for the next one!

well what an opener that was! Lots of action, as expected, but also loving that we get to see more of Falcon’s background and Winters complexities. I’m really looking forward to the next episode.. plus I get to crush on a Sebastian Stan.. that man is hot!

I thought it was excellent. The story about the man's son really touched me. Great action scenes, lots of character insight and showing them as more human somehow like struggling with money.

Will continue watching with interest

I liked it, really liked it. But... I’m not sure that the first episode of a series should make me feel like I don’t like either of the main characters!

The Falcon, running roughshod over his sister without thought that she’s been keeping everything going whilst he was dusted. Plus giving away the shield that was entrusted to him Shock

The Winter Soldier lying to his therapist, running out on a lovely first date abs befriending a elderly man just to assuage his own guilt.

I’ll keep watching, because Wandavision started slow too, but at this point if they were both killed off I wouldn’t care!

I get what you're saying exLtEve, but I think that will make their progression and character arcs more interesting - showing them as really fallable at this stage, rather than heroes, although I think all Marvel heroes are flawed. I think this exposed them as very human. Though like I said, I love the Bucky Barnes character and have spent FAR too long thinking about his motivations and the effects of the trauma he went through etc. And his cute nose 😆

I’ve also come here from the WandaVison thread. I loved that but agree that this is a totally different thing. I’m hoping I’ll love this too.
I enjoyed this episode as a first/ setting the scene episode. The twist at the end made me very angry on Sam’s behalf!
I thought the money storyline and Bucky being in therapy were interesting. It makes the characters and the world more grounded in reality. I like that Marvel is able to explore the consequences of the big explosive battles from the movies through the TV series. And I like the focus on less well known characters and bringing in minor characters from the films.

I really enjoyed. It's good to see a backstory on the more minor characters that are usually consigned to one or two throwaway lines in the films and I like the idea that they're exploring how superheroes actually make money.

I also agree with the poster who said that the characters flaws make them more interesting and fallible. TWS is obviously struggling with what he's done in the past and it's going to be interesting to see how he redeems himself. And I just adore Sam.

There's a theory that Torres is going to become the Falcon like he does in the comics (apparently. I haven't read any since I was a teen) so I wonder if Sam eventually takes over as a new Captain America.

Enjoyed it. Thought the money situation was very unbelievable though as surely Stark Industries would have some sort of superhero fund?

Bucky working through his guilt is heartbreaking.

The therapist is awesome. Love her!

I think he does in the comics, but is it something to do with the blip? With everyone disappearing maybe there wasn't a contingency fund for if they came back (I'm just theorising, obviously). Also, Sam was on the side of Captain America during Civil War so maybe he was frozen out of it during that time.

I loved it. I have always loved the Winter Soldier character so really pleased to see more of him. And boy is Sebastian Stan easy on the eye.

My only criticism of the episode - Falcon and the fishing boat/ no money. I watch Marvel for escapism, not to be reminded of the drudgery of normal life.

Not sure if you've watched it but she is in Bosch. Worth a watch if you’ve never seen it. Great actress.

Agree. Weird how he instantly became far more attractive with short hair. He does tortured soul very well.

I liked it. Be interesting once they're put together.

We enjoyed ep1 so far but keen to see how the chemistry is with the two of them together. I spent the first 10 mins thinking it was a flashback to Sam being in the military pre-Captain America and we were about to see when his friend was killed, so had to quickly revise that when it became apparent it was all several months after Endgame. The level of action was brilliant! Felt very much like any MCU film. The claustrophobia/tension of Bucky’s scenes with the therapist was good. He is a bit of a dick though, just wandering off on his date like that, and it’s self-indulgent to be befriending the father of someone you killed, even if you were mind controlled at the time. Just leave him be, some things you can’t make better.

Where is Old Man Cap though?!?

I still don't find him attractive but at least with a haircut he doesn't look like a sulky teenager now

I doubt it - this takes places 4 weeks after EndGame when Old Man Steve was very much alive to hand over the shield but he's old now, Peggy has died, & he's been essentially living in hiding so I doubt he'd make a reappearance & blow his cover. I expect he's pissed off though!
