Anyone watched this mini series what are yourr thoughts on Adele? What did you make on the twist at the end?

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 27/02/2021 17:56

I watched and guessed the twist too. I always seem to do this when something is advertised as having a "great twist." I can't stop thinking what the twist will be, so i usually work it out. See the Sixth Sense. Grin

Gwenhwyfar · 27/02/2021 21:30

@Dita73

I finished watching it last night and I can’t believe I wasted over four hours of my life on what I thought was going to be a Fatal Attraction type thriller and what turned out to be a load of supernatural cobblers. I’m fuming. Also the “actor” who played David was possibly one of the worst actors I’ve ever seen. He was terrible. Can’t say I’ll rewatch it. I’m not happy
Why did you watch it after joining a spoilers thread?
Dita73 · 27/02/2021 21:56

@Gwenhwyfar I hadn’t read it before I watched it. Hope my justification is ok

SymphonyofShadows · 28/02/2021 09:49

I’ve just finished this and came here to see if there was a thread. I guessed the twist once I saw the AP too, “she used to shine” etc.

One thing that did confuse me was the voice comment from Rob/Louise. Yes, the cadence would be different due to vocal chords, but you learn to speak with an accent, so surely you’d still sound Scottish etc. in a different body? Rob would have struggled to sound like Adele. Less so with Louise, but she was more ‘London’ than Adele.

Missushbb · 28/02/2021 20:07

@muckypaws

I've just started reading the book and it's actually so much better than I expected but probably some of that is the fact that I know what the story is so I'm looking for clues. I'm really enjoying looking for all the little hints about what is really going on, though I still wouldn't have got it until the end I'm sure. There's a lot about Louise being overweight which I'm glad they dropped from the TV series - she's blonde and a little bit 'curvy' ie. half a stone 'overweight' and there is a lot about eating, exercise, losing weight, comparing herself unfavourably to Adele which is quite irritating to be honest...
I took this as this was Adele/Rob making her lose a bit of weight and get healthy so it was in tiptop condition for when Adele/Rob took up residence! Which made it even creepier!!
DarlingWithoutYou · 02/03/2021 20:46

I enjoyed it, right up until Louise randomly decided to rescue Adele by APing on the doorstep. Ridiculous.

MirandaMarple · 02/03/2021 21:13

@Notashandyta

I loved it!

I actually want to watch it now we know what was actually happening in the short and who adele really was

I want to watch it again too! Little Adam at the end haunts me though 😔
BrigitsBigKnickers · 03/03/2021 00:02

Finished watching this this evening and was talking to DD about it after( she finished it last week) and she said she was suspicious earlier on as thought Adele's aura changed colour from pink to blue. Didn't notice myself - want to go back an have another look now!

louise5754 · 03/03/2021 00:16

Yes I think the auras were:
Adele Purple
Rob Blue
Louise Green

SinkGirl · 03/03/2021 14:52

I had a vague idea of where it would go earlier (her personality was just too different) and then as soon as it became clear Adele and Louise were swapping I figured out what had happened. I said “oh I get it” and DH said “yes, they’re swapping souls” and I said no, Adele is Rob.

Don’t want to name the film in case no one has ever seen it, but it’s very similar to a film with a very similar ending - film is mostly crap but then the ending is brilliant, here I feel it didn’t set the tone early enough. Also no way she would have projected into the house (what would she have been able to do?) and not called the fire brigade. In fact why did she even go there at all? The woman was fucking insane, you wouldn’t go near her.

Meltinthemiddle · 06/03/2021 09:32

The missing pages in the red book was interesting. I wonder if there will be another series. Its hard for it to go anywhere now.

CanofCant · 06/03/2021 10:21

I assume the missing pages in Rob's red book was him going 'Bloody hell, this is fantastic! I can't believe I have got away with body swapping and murder and now I am loaded!'. Grin

Number3BigCupOfTea · 06/03/2021 10:30

what did Adam ''know''.

He knew that his mum who was previously lovely to him was now really, really cold. That's all he knew.

The ''you hate boats'' thing was a clue if David was alert to the clues though.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 06/03/2021 11:55

David will soon find out that Louise has undergone a personality transplant too! It certainly seemed that Rob/Louise was already finding Adam an inconvenient hindrance'.

quirkychick · 07/03/2021 17:45

I have just finished this, I quite enjoyed it but I did guess either a body swap or both Rob and Adele sharing the same body. I have watched too many horror films.

I liked the link with Haunting of Bly Manor with a body in a well and the spinning wedding ring was quite Inception.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 07/03/2021 22:48

I love a good psychological thriller and I wanted to like this but I feel cheated/mis-sold it is actually a supernatural thriller (which I also like for the record). Plus the pretty awful acting. It really was quite interesting and clearly well made in parts, but so patchy? Some bits fantastic, some bits CBBC type 'drama'?

eatsleepread · 07/03/2021 23:05

I enjoyed this. I didn't see the twist at the end coming at all!
One thing that occurred to me is that 'Adele' formed a connection with David's very damaged patient (the male who used to come to the clinic with his parents). Like attracts like, I guess.
And 'Adele' seemed to be a very adept cook, which Rob was.
It's only looking back that I'm seeing certain things!
I'm consoling myself with the notion that the new Louise/Rob would become totally fed up with Adam, and resign him to his father's care full-time. Not great for the boy, but at least he'd be safe!
LOVED Louise's flat.

cantthinkofauniquename · 08/03/2021 00:40

@scryingeyes

I remember reading a short story, but have been in Jackie magazine, about astral travelling where one wicked traveller steals the body of another traveller. I wonder if it's the same author or if the author read it about 35 years ago too and added the extra twist?

Must have been a good story for me to remember it from so long ago Grin

I started to piece together things a bit earlier as the concept wasn't new to me. I read Stranger With My Face by Lois Duncan when I was in my teens. Might that be what you read? (It's not a short story though, it's a teen novel). Premise is very similar - a body swap using astral projection. The first time Adele and Rob projected together, I was thinking "Oh no. That's not a good idea!" precisely because I'd read that book.
Catford · 08/03/2021 11:12

Loved this. I'm going to watch it through again now I know the end. I love supernatural thrillers so this was right up my street. I assume Eve Hewson normally has an Irish accent? I thought she did a good English accent but I couldn't quite place what region of England it was.
Looking forward to series 2. I wonder how they'll manage to film during the pandemic. I guess they just have to do regular testing and hope no one catches it!

Catford · 08/03/2021 11:16

I was a child in the 70s and there seemed to be loads of supernatural children's dramas at that time. Plus I remember ones in comics. Eg. A girl going on a school trip to a castle and placing her hands in the handprints of a witch and the witch possessing her hands and making her hands do horrible things. She once offered to cut her friend's hair and the witch made her cut it horribly. Why she offered to cut her friend's hair when she knew her hands were possessed I do not know. Probably why I love supernatural dramas though.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/03/2021 11:50

" I thought she did a good English accent but I couldn't quite place what region of England it was."

Wasn't she posh Scottish?

Gwenhwyfar · 08/03/2021 11:51

"One thing that occurred to me is that 'Adele' formed a connection with David's very damaged patient (the male who used to come to the clinic with his parents). Like attracts like, I guess."

Did they have a connection or did 'she' just want to buy drugs?

Catford · 08/03/2021 12:11

I didn't recognise it as Scottish Gwenhwyfar. I thought she sounded English but there were some sounds I couldnt place.

quirkychick · 08/03/2021 12:17

Catford, I was also a child in the 70s, there was definitely a lot of stories like that in comics, books and on TV. I also really like supernatural stories too. It's like the old fear of the changeling/possession.

Eve Hewson was also in The Luminaries, which I really enjoyed, though a fair bit of drugs in that too.

Gwenhwyfar · 08/03/2021 17:19

@Catford

I didn't recognise it as Scottish Gwenhwyfar. I thought she sounded English but there were some sounds I couldnt place.
Yes, I thought she sounded English too, but I presumed she grew up in that big house in Scotland and had an English accent because she was posh. Rob and her husband were Scottish, the mental hospital was in Scotland wasn't it?
