Anyone watched this mini series what are yourr thoughts on Adele? What did you make on the twist at the end?

@alloverthecarpetagain that's what I thought, why would Louise sit on the doorstep of a burning house counting her fingers to fall asleep to astral plane instead of ringing 999?!? Too far fetched I thought!

CanofCant · 25/02/2021 10:13

Louise didn't really have a history of good judgement though did she?

alloverthecarpetagain · 25/02/2021 10:54

@ImSoMagical I don't think it ruined the ending for me, but I found that part jarred with me. I mean, she has been terrified by Adele, hates her now and realises how much she has lied to her and manipulated her and then she basically rushes into a burning building for her? 999 would have been fine with me in that situation. I did like the twisty Rob part of the plot though and I think there were some clues there from the start. I'm annoyed that in the photo of the main characters, Rob doesn't feature!

alloverthecarpetagain · 25/02/2021 10:55

This is true...
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 25/02/2021 11:12

Adam at the end was chilling, he knew immediately.

Loved Louise's wardrobe. She was a bit mad tho getting friendly with Adele in the first place and yes, frustrating at end when David had made her promise not to go near Adele and she went and told her grrr.

Teardrop2021 · 25/02/2021 11:43

I must admit I would have love the big reveal and for Adele/Rob atleast tell Louise when she was in adeles body who he/she really was and that she was never really Adele at all and what she did to all those years ago and he has been her all this time and this hasn't been his first body Jump it would have made it that bit more chilling that it wasn't her first offense so to speak and that he had been the master manipulator in all. I really need to get the book because its quite interesting analysing all the characteristics and their intentions and I quite like the ending isn't a happy after like mice and men and it can be analyse why the characters do what they do and the reasons behind them.

Maybe she thought it would have taken too long for the fire brigade to arrive and Adele was in imminent danger.

@MaliceOrgan

I thought this was all just so silly (and so badly acted). Didn't stop me sticking to the end though.

They always have impossibly amazing houses (and offices) in these things too.

And Tom Ford glasses!
Guidebutton · 25/02/2021 17:03

For the first 4 episodes it was just your average drama, quite enjoyable. I was swinging between whether it was her or him in the AIBU Grin

Then it went weird.

Or did other people pick up that Adele wasn't really Adele early on? Did David know she wasn't Adele?

I thought the Louise actress playing Adele at the end was brilliant.

Guidebutton · 25/02/2021 17:06

The but that confused me most was that, whilst clearly troubled, Rob seemed lovely before he swapped bodies. Why the change?

DaisyandIvy · 25/02/2021 17:08

Read the book a few years ago but had forgotten the details of the ending. Remembered how disappointed I felt at it after completing the TV adaptation.

Teardrop2021 · 25/02/2021 20:16

I think he was rather pathological in the book but hid it well at time but the mask slipped on occasion, as Adele he murdered Marianne's cat with his heel and then killed their own cat and told louise David killed it, he had history as himself with disturbing behaviour which Adele didn't know about until it was told late until he murdered her stealing her body. I would imagine its got to take someone pretty dark inside to murder your best friend steal her body, bf her life house money and go on marry her bf. In the book Adele was pregnant with davids baby would rob felt it was Adele baby and could give birth so had an abortion. Poor Adele. I wonder if she knew she was pregnant. Rob tried to get pregnant with their own baby but failed. I think the behaviour continued hence the medication david gave Adele/Rob.

Did anyone else think that Dave would see Robs book when he went over to Louise flat?

Strange coincidence that Louise had nightmares / sleep walked and that was how Adele could introduce her to the floating / out of body experiences .

fluffyugg · 26/02/2021 09:03

I really enjoyed this and thought the twist at the end was very unsettling. Couldn't find it realistic though when Louise was sat on the doorstep of a burning building doing her dream thing...that could've been more realistic!

vjg13 · 26/02/2021 18:47

Watched one episode, liked the house but thought the acting was poor, read this thread and will definitely give up. It sounds crap!

louise5754 · 26/02/2021 20:24

Just rewatched the last episode.

A clue Rob wasn't really her friend. He asked her to try heroin. What sort of friend does that.

fluffythedragonslayer · 26/02/2021 23:33

I enjoyed this up until the woo nonsense came in from nowhere. It wasn't well done and didn't make any sense. DH and I guessed the body swap bit once they'd introduced the souls leaving the body thing so Adele being Rob wasn't a big reveal.
Why did Louise decide to astral project outside the burning building? Why did her soul go into Adele's body, was it sucked in by accident? When Rob and Adele swapped bodies it was intended. It made no sense that Louise would float in there at all!

The idea that Rob could have just taken on Louise's life is nonsense too. There would be so much about her, Adam etc that he wouldn't have a clue about.

I would have liked it as an interesting love triangle /people with mysterious past drama. The astral stuff and body swapping nonsense was stupid and not at all well written or acted.

Also who started the fire that killed Adele's parents?! All that talk of how suspicious it was but no follow up.

I won't be watching a season 2!!

scryingeyes · 27/02/2021 09:01

I remember reading a short story, but have been in Jackie magazine, about astral travelling where one wicked traveller steals the body of another traveller. I wonder if it's the same author or if the author read it about 35 years ago too and added the extra twist?

Must have been a good story for me to remember it from so long ago Grin

Gwenhwyfar · 27/02/2021 11:36

"Why did Louise decide to astral project outside the burning building? Why did her soul go into Adele's body, was it sucked in by accident? When Rob and Adele swapped bodies it was intended. It made no sense that Louise would float in there at all!"

It was to save her from the fire. Makes sense to me.

Gwenhwyfar · 27/02/2021 11:37

"I enjoyed this up until the woo nonsense came in from nowhere."

It was the whole point.
The story wouldn't be interesting without it, would it? I've seen quite a few programmes where the wife and OW become friends. This one was original!

TheJunctionBaby · 27/02/2021 12:13

I really enjoyed it, but guessed the body swap well in advance. Rob kept talking about how much he was jealous of Adele's life and when he first sees David, it's obvious he falls head over heels.

The most frustrating thing was that Louise told David that she knows how Adele always seemed to know everything, yet didn't explain how... if she had, he may have been able to put the pieces together...

And Louise choosing to AP instead of just calling 999 was totally stupid. I felt horrible after watching it, knowing that poor Adam was not going to come off well, and that David had yet again become trapped.

Weirdly though, I had just started reading a book earlier in the day before I started watching this, about an old lady that teaches her young adopted daughter how to astrally project and then steals her body....hence why I think I found it easy to guess the plot twist

muckypaws · 27/02/2021 12:15

I've just started reading the book and it's actually so much better than I expected but probably some of that is the fact that I know what the story is so I'm looking for clues. I'm really enjoying looking for all the little hints about what is really going on, though I still wouldn't have got it until the end I'm sure. There's a lot about Louise being overweight which I'm glad they dropped from the TV series - she's blonde and a little bit 'curvy' ie. half a stone 'overweight' and there is a lot about eating, exercise, losing weight, comparing herself unfavourably to Adele which is quite irritating to be honest...

Dita73 · 27/02/2021 13:32

I finished watching it last night and I can’t believe I wasted over four hours of my life on what I thought was going to be a Fatal Attraction type thriller and what turned out to be a load of supernatural cobblers. I’m fuming. Also the “actor” who played David was possibly one of the worst actors I’ve ever seen. He was terrible. Can’t say I’ll rewatch it. I’m not happy

ShallWeStartTheMeeting · 27/02/2021 15:08

Same here.
I read the spoiler and I refuse to watch the end. What a waste of TV time!
Easy to create a 'shocking twist' when the story takes a ridiculous supernatural twist out of nowhere.

Not to mention that', apart from the flashbacks, the characters were all so unlikeable. Louise feels so sorry for Adele and yet is happy to shag her husband even though she has witnessed his aggressive behaviour towards Adele, as well as the dodgy prescription issue.
David is humourless and aggressive and I don't get why he didn't leave Adele years ago.

Main plot hole though- why was Adele in the mental health facility in the first place? If she was asleep while her parents burnt to death (I'd assumed she had caused the fire) why was she sent to a facility?
And Rob in the flashbacks was so sweet with her- they were so bonded that I had originally assumed he wasn't real at all, rather a fragment of Adele's imagination.
Can't find it convincing to believe he would be happy to murder his best friend like that.

louise5754 · 27/02/2021 17:42

David was a crap actor but in the second half of the last episode he seemed to get much worse. His accent seemed to change too.
