I saw a trailer for this the other evening but DC were running around and being loud so I missed most of it. Does anyone know when it’s starting please? I don’t want to miss it as it’s brilliant!

My Liz theory is a bit kiboshed then because I thought Liz was the only one that hadn't been seen using a fountain pen but it seems I was blinking when she used it.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 23/03/2021 13:02

Finishing him off in the boot makes a lot of sense as stabbing someone with a fountain pen while they're running away from you feels pretty unachievable to me.

If the police are giving very expensive fountain pens to everyone who passes out from Hendon, I'm pretty outraged at the waste of public money. Grin But also of course Cassie would have got one herself a few months later, and would have immediately said 'could that be the police graduation pen'? So the fact they all have one suggests it's their group that did it.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2021 13:06

When she went to see her partners brother about stopping the loan or changing her surname on the loan application he asked what would she do for him in return? She was next seen driving home crying. What did he suggest in exchange for his help? It appears she didn't do anything as her partners brother phoned next day to tell her partner.

Or he shafted her - literally and figuratively.

I think Fiona killed Walsh. I think he fell and perhaps knocked himself unconscious as he was being chased, and she caught up as they were standing over him as Ram was trying to recussitate him, and took the opportunity to vent all of her rage - for the assault he made on her, for her parents, for having to join the force - out on him by taking the chance to lunge forward and stab the pen through his ear or eye.

ohhhhitsme · 23/03/2021 13:19

I don't want to read the thread in case of spoilers but could anyone confirm if this is any good?? Thanks!

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/03/2021 13:22

Cassie's Dad's partner being the driver would make sense of the huge amount of time spent on Cassie's unhappiness with the will.
Or maybe that itself was a plot device to add an extra suspect for the crash? 🤷🏻‍♀️

aramox · 23/03/2021 13:26

I'm still stuck on the pen being in the opening sequence, lying down, with a snail crawling over it. Doesn't that mean it was at the allotment already so didn't belong to any of them? Or am I being overly literal?

SingToTheSky · 23/03/2021 13:26

@ohhhhitsme 35 pages of discussion I think you can safely assume it is good :o start with series 1 if you can but there’s not a huge need to watch them in order really.

SingToTheSky · 23/03/2021 13:29

Interesting point about the snail!

But also of course Cassie would have got one herself a few months later, and would have immediately said 'could that be the police graduation pen'?

Maybe that’s another reason for all her pent up rage at the police - envy that they stopped doing the pen gifts by the time she graduated :o

I really hope there’s a big twist in the resolution of what actually happened that night. A little more detail about the pen stabbage doesn’t really feel like enough for the last episode (of potentially the last series).

ohhhhitsme · 23/03/2021 13:32

@SingToTheSky Grinthanks. To be honest I didn't even look how many pages, was scared of seeing a spoiler Grin

Scrapper142 · 23/03/2021 13:35

My first thought re Rams dad was maybe something about his divorce (Ram has an ex wife and three kids, only mentioned once I think). If his parents are very traditional divorce could be the reason, not seeing grand kids, new wife and maybe an affair.

I think Fiona lied. Sunni and Cassie said to each other after she's telling the truth or she's an unbelievably good liar. Think its the latter.

margoyuwer · 23/03/2021 13:37

I don't have a clue what will happen with the Cassie stuff but i hope the episode focuses mainly of the 4 suspects instead of Cassie, there is so much we need answering!

OysterMonkey · 23/03/2021 13:51

It has been a bit of a slow build up this one. First four episodes quite meandering.
Yesterday was like a bloody tornado in comparison.
I’ll be very annoyed if they then rush the final episode trying to tie up all the loose ends, given how long they spent setting the scene. (Far too over-invested!)

BruceAndNosh · 23/03/2021 14:00

The theory that Walsh wasn't quite dead when loaded into the boot is a good one! But would you really use a very expensive fountain pen to finish someone off? It's not the most obvious "weapon"

Halsall · 23/03/2021 14:09

@SchadenfreudePersonified

Mrs Quinn turns out to be Kate Williams, Love Thy Neighbour,

YES!!!

I was struggling to place her - but yes, it was from Lovey Thy Neighbour, possibly one of the most unfunny and predictable comedy programmes ever to grace the telly. Right up there with Bless This House.

We did watch some cr*p.

I was also curious about . . . the actor who is the senior policeman interviewing Liz Baildon when the others came for questioning.i think he might have been in Corrie?

I was also struggling with him - but I think you're right. Wasn't he shacked up with Eileen Grimshaw at one time? Used to wear a lot of those checky "lumberjack" shirts favoured by members of the television building trade?

I was curious too Schaden and answered this upthread a bit, but we've all been going great guns, so easy to miss. Yep, he was in Corrie as one of Eileen's many many, many, many doomed romances, apparently.

He was also 'Big Mac' in Casualty.

fizbosshoes · 23/03/2021 14:37

@OysterMonkey
DD said exactly the same that we havent found out a lot each week ....until yesterday....and theres loads to tie up next week!

longwayoff · 23/03/2021 14:43

25 years ago a young colleague asked to borrow my pen. Passed her my pen and it was as if I'd handed her the entire contents of the V&A. "I can't use that, I've never used one before". Have fountain pens had a resurgence in popularity?

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 23/03/2021 15:46

Its strange how Fogerty kept the body parts in freezers in two different locations for at least the past 8 years.

The specifically identifiable and incriminating parts of the body were kept in a storage unit away from Fogerty's house. The head - showed cause of death and could be used for dental records and the hands - fingerprints?

Was he was ensuring that he could use the body parts as leverage for blackmail if he needed to?

Also Rams "flashback" did contain a pen lying next to a broken pair of glasses (Dean wore glasses in his Hendon trainee file)

Halsall · 23/03/2021 16:27

Was he was ensuring that he could use the body parts as leverage for blackmail if he needed to?

Could he have been blackmailing Liz - and that’s why she seemed so reluctant to pay the carer? DH and I couldn’t work out how a fairly senior copper was insisting she ‘couldn’t afford’ to pay any more. Surely she’d be on a pretty decent wedge?

Halsall · 23/03/2021 16:28

Bold fail Grin

CongealedCrags · 23/03/2021 16:43

Who takes a very expensive fountain pen to their passing out parade and party? None of them had guests, so did one of them give it to the other? Did one of them buy them all a pen to celebrate?

SunburstsOrMarbleHalls · 23/03/2021 16:47

Yes I found it odd that Liz seemed to struggle to pay the carer giver her senior position.

I think her mothers home was in Cambridge and her house alone would be worth £££, so strange her mother hadn't downsized and paid for her own care when she owned such a large asset.

Liz could have found herself being blackmailed by Fogerty as she rose through the ranks of the force, if she felt obligated to pay for her mothers care too it would explain she said she couldn't afford to pay Eugenia any more.

butterpuffed · 23/03/2021 16:49

@Chicchicchicchiclana , Thanks, i thought I'd missed something vital !

Blondeshavemorefun · 23/03/2021 16:50

Haven’t a clue who did it

Liz is very calm and collected so saying her

Cassie wasn’t looking and didn’t stop so think an accident and not one of the 4

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2021 17:19

Thank you Halsall - I must have missed this as we flew at breakneck speed round the twists and turns in the plot.

Ineedaduvetday · 23/03/2021 18:16

My view is none of them did it. I think it was his brother who was 'hiding in the bushes'.
