I saw a trailer for this the other evening but DC were running around and being loud so I missed most of it. Does anyone know when it’s starting please? I don’t want to miss it as it’s brilliant!

A lot of her story makes no sense though, why pretend to have been in foster care just to avoid them finding out her dad was a copper?

Sunny said something about the assault by walsh potentially triggering Fiona if there was something deeper in her past - I’m not sure if it’s too late to reveal something like that now (as there’s so much to tie up in a final 45min 😭) but it did make me wonder if it was related to her lying/blocking out the past

ImAncient · 25/03/2021 16:48

Will catch up in a bit but just rewatched episode 5. It looks like the light has gone from red to green when Cass moves off.

And Fiona’s partner is just in a permanent state of shock with each new revelation. She’s obviously spent the last 30 years lying about her whole life.

SingToTheSky · 25/03/2021 16:49

They’re such an odd couple. I wonder what broke Liz and Fiona up all those years back?

ImAncient · 25/03/2021 16:59

I think possibly Ram’s dad doesn’t talk to him because of his previous children who we haven’t seen or because he is divorced from his first wife? An honour thing maybe? Possibly feels Ram has brought shame on the family by being divorced?

What I love about Unforgotten is once you get past the unlikely amazing evidence they collect thanks to useful serial numbers, elephantine memories and no-one moving house for decades, the actual human stories are very real. The characters face challenges that are real but commonplace, be it dealing with children with additional needs, difficult parents, or adult offspring that won't get out of bed.

Re: the evidence. Every series I have been 'well, thank GOD for that car key / pager / plate in arm'

I reckon they would have struggled without them!

I also don't think Cassie was hit by any of the suspects - it was just made to look like that. The accident highlights how she's been so distracted with everything that's been going on with her dad, that she isn't really concentrating on driving. She was also shown to be feeling really conflicted between wanting to leave the force sans gold-plated pension, and seeing the case through, and now the decision seems to have been taken out of her hands. I like the idea Sunny taking over and closing the case, taking the lead role for once rather than being the deputy/ sidekick.

I am leaning towards the theory that someone else caught up with Walsh before Ram found him, and then came back later when Ram was doing CPR. Forgerty? Perhaps there will be a motive in his past? I'd dismissed him because he was described as a gentle giant by the trainer. Or Liz? As revenge for the attack on Fiona? When Fiona referred to what Liz had done for her, maybe she wasn't talking about the lost blood samples.

There are two things I really like about Unforgotten. 1. That a lot of the discoveries are delayed, such as having to wait for the storage unit to reopen the next morning in one of the earlier episodes. I don't mind this slowing down the pace at the start as it feels a bit more like real life, though a lot of the evidence, like the PP said, is unlikely to be found after all this time. 2. That Cassie and her team always treat the victim as deserving of justice/dignity, even if they are wrong uns like Walsh.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 25/03/2021 20:33

Yes! Producers if you can see this thread Grin! I would very much still watch if NW is no longer in it but Sunni is at the helm.

Please don't let this be the end of Unforgotten.

FawnDrench · 25/03/2021 21:11

I don't believe Fiona's version of events on the night of the murder.
Surely she would have been too drunk to remember such details and the specific order of events.

My money's still on Dean (I think...)
Dean wasn't present when Ram and Walsh had the fight in the pub previously.
Dean Quinn came from a thuggish type of family.
Did Walsh know him as Quinn - before he changed his name and joined the police force?
So Dean had the most to lose if Walsh recognised him from the past.

Dean is a chameleon - we have seen several shots of him "rearranging his facial expression" before turning round to face other people when he needed to give the right impression/ expression.

I read on another forum that a poster thought that Dean is like the Marathon bar - even if you change its name to Snickers it's still the same chocolate inside.

Completely agree with this, I like the way they say things like 'go home, we'll pick this up tomorrow', it's very realistic. Also to the dignity thing, you can imagine some people going 'god, so what? It was 30 years ago!' but the unforgotten team just quietly chip away as if the murder happened yesterday.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 25/03/2021 21:37

I REALLY want to know where Nicola Walker got that necklace! Please PM me if you know!

Love the series, it is so much better than Line of Duty

ImAncient · 25/03/2021 21:50

Does anyone ever remember everything though from so many years ago? I can barely remember sometimes whether I’ve eaten breakfast that day!

drspouse · 25/03/2021 22:12

I have significant moments I remember, such as being mugged on a foreign beach, being punched in the face by a psychotic man off his meds, when we heard about our son, telling a relative that my parents were splitting up - all 9-35 years ago. Where I was, little details. So I think they'd remember a lot.

SirVixofVixHall · 26/03/2021 00:47

Where are Ram’s children ?
Dean’s brother, is his death going to be significant?
In Fiona’s interview, she said that they were all separate, until she found Ram and Ron with unconscious or dead Walsh. Where was Dean ? Where was Liz ?
Why did both Fiona’s parents die so young, and why did she lie about this, and say she had been fostered ?
What is Dean’s job ?
How will all this be revealed in 45 minutes !?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 26/03/2021 07:16

I'm thinking it's going to turn out to be the dead guy who was storing the body parts who was the murderer but the others all think they 'did it'?

Aside from being foul to her DM, Liz is the only one who seems to have stayed relatively on the straight and narrow since the murder (although I guess losing vital evidence in a car accident that resulted in the death of a child is very dodgy).

I cannot believe that Fiona decided to go through years of training to become a therapist/counsellor but without a licence to practise! Surely she could have done so many other things. It's almost like she was crying out to be found out?

diddl · 26/03/2021 08:19

Would she have been given a license?

What was she convicted of?

Was it all just to add to her feeling the need to "confess"?

fizbosshoes · 26/03/2021 08:28

I think the reason she didnt apply for a licence was that her conviction would show up and she wouldnt be approved.

diddl · 26/03/2021 08:37

@fizbosshoes

I think the reason she didnt apply for a licence was that her conviction would show up and she wouldnt be approved.
I was just musing if that was a given though?

I suppose she figured it just wasn't worth the risk.

fizbosshoes · 26/03/2021 08:47

Maybe there are other convictions that we dont know about?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 26/03/2021 12:08

@fizbosshoes

I think the reason she didnt apply for a licence was that her conviction would show up and she wouldnt be approved.
I was surprised that a conviction for reckless driving (?) would affect her having a license.

It's not like she assaulted a patient or anything.

diddl · 26/03/2021 13:26

"I was surprised that a conviction for reckless driving (?) would affect her having a license."

I would have thought that it's easily checked?

I suppose it all goes to her character though.

She'd rather do something illegal than risk something that she wants & has worked hard for?

diddl · 26/03/2021 13:26

Although that doesn't make sense does it as she is then risking the very thing that she wants??

SingToTheSky · 26/03/2021 13:30

I get what you mean diddl it’s like sabotaging herself and I think they’re implying her character has been pretty unstable all along so she didn’t make the logical decision to try and sort out the licensing properly, she acted out of fear as shame instead and just got in deeper and deeper and couldn’t back out.
