I saw a trailer for this the other evening but DC were running around and being loud so I missed most of it. Does anyone know when it’s starting please? I don’t want to miss it as it’s brilliant!

Pollo I do also! But then I do like Toast stuff..

SingToTheSky · 23/03/2021 10:15

I loved Cassie’s shirt too! Sadly that style looks crap on me.

MoonCatcher · 23/03/2021 10:22

@Laska2Meryls

Sheila hancock is H !! 🤣🤣 Btw ( a bit scared to reopen this, but I loved Cassie's shirt last night, Any idea where its from?)
I think you're onto something with Sheila Hancock!
MorrisZapp · 23/03/2021 10:23

Did they even bother putting the cardboard cut out of Cassie's boyfriend in that episode? I can't remember.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 23/03/2021 10:26

@dogsdinnerlady

Probably been mentioned before but is there some significance in the fact that every character has a conflicted relationship with their parents? Otherwise I can't see the relevance of all the family backstory stuff.
It's kind of the theme of this season.

There are too many potentially stereotypical 'reasons' why Ram's father might be blocking him. (Infuriating that he still shoved the food into his face.Angry ) I hope the actual reason is interesting. Brilliant contrast with Lis and Eileen though; one parent silent, the other vituperative over their little trays. Really, for all the people (like me) longing to see their parents again, there must be millions for whom lockdown has been a blessed relief from familial duty.

SH as H is a good enough reason for a whole new LoD season!

I didn't notice Cassie's clothes at all yesterday - so assume they've reverted to averagely normal. (Unlike the dark green shirt that made me weirdly unhappy.) What I did notice was the way her whole demeanour lit up when she had Liz in her clutches. You could see her suddenly remember why she loved her job. That was fabulous.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 23/03/2021 10:37

I don't know 'who dunnit' but I think poor Cassie will be killed off in the crash. Her death will cause devastation in the team and derail the investigation and it won't be concluded this season then maybe there will be a fifth season lead by Suni.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 23/03/2021 10:41

Sunny will be passed over for promotion. I can feel it in my waters.

He will react with restrained dignity. The new senior - brought in from another area - will mess up. I don't know what happens after that ...

SirVixofVixHall · 23/03/2021 10:42

Noooooooo ! I love Sunni but they can’t kill off Cassie , not in this terrible year when we all need some joy. I will be really cross if she dies, I love the team of her and Sunni, they are both wonderful. Such lovely, expressive faces.

viques · 23/03/2021 10:53

@PolloDePrimavera

Oh and sorry to bring this up, but I quite like Fran's style: it's like a Toast/Brora crossover. I told my DH this and he looked at me like I'd finally lost it.
I love her green coat, it would look like a cheap army horse blanket on me so I can admire it without tears of envy.
lazymum99 · 23/03/2021 10:54

Fiona confessions were one thing but why would anyone lie that they were fostered when their father died when they were 20. The police officer thing was no big deal. Loads of people launch into a career they don’t want to do because of their parent. You might keep the drinking aspect secret from your children but the rest I don’t see.

On a positive note if she is dead then since she is back at work there will be death in service payouts of a lump sum and pension so all her money worries will be solved in one fell swoop.
Optimist1 · 23/03/2021 10:59

I, too, hope they don't kill off Cassie. And if they do, perhaps she could reprise her character from River (where she was dead, but managed to assist her partner from beyond the grave)?

BentBastard · 23/03/2021 11:02

@MorrisZapp

Yes, she was seen speaking on the phone to him where he told her that directing her anger toward her Dad wasn't helping her.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 23/03/2021 11:30

Yes ... Social distancing has really effed up the Cassie / John relationship. They had such simmering chemistry at the end of the last season.

oneglassandpuzzled · 23/03/2021 11:33

@Blondeshavemorefun

Forgotten how much I liked the theme music

Reminded me of the returned

It’s lovely.

Oh yes. I loved River.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2021 11:37

Mrs Quinn turns out to be Kate Williams, Love Thy Neighbour,

YES!!!

I was struggling to place her - but yes, it was from Lovey Thy Neighbour, possibly one of the most unfunny and predictable comedy programmes ever to grace the telly. Right up there with Bless This House.

We did watch some cr*p.

I was also curious about . . . the actor who is the senior policeman interviewing Liz Baildon when the others came for questioning.i think he might have been in Corrie?

I was also struggling with him - but I think you're right. Wasn't he shacked up with Eileen Grimshaw at one time? Used to wear a lot of those checky "lumberjack" shirts favoured by members of the television building trade?

KatherineJaneway · 23/03/2021 11:38

I hope she isn't killed off as well. I hope that the accident allows a repair in the relationship with her Dad, a reset if you will.

Anne1958 · 23/03/2021 11:39

Well I wasn’t expecting that! 🙈

MorrisZapp · 23/03/2021 12:01

Susan Lynch was in a relationship with Craig Parkinson aka 'Dot' Cottan in LoD for twelve years. Split last year.

Fiona is a proficient liar and very secretive, her entire life over 30 years has been a lie.

Lying over the death of her father and lying about being raised by foster parents. There has been no mention of her mum but on the headstone of her grave it said she died 11 years before Fiona's father, she admitted to her children she was 20 when her father actually died so she would have been 9 when her mother died. She had said to her husband in Episode 1 that she had not known either of her parents. She said "one" of her reasons for lying was she didn't want them to see the gravestone and find out that he was a policeman so it suggests there were other reasons too.

Not telling her children or partner she was in the police. Not telling her partner about her battle with alcoholism and that she had depression and had tried to take her own life on two previous occasions. Not telling him she was responsible for the death of a child.

When in the counselling session with the young woman her speech on what lying does to people close to you was poignant. Her explanation on how it destroys trust and stops people knowing you and understanding you so they are unable to help you when you are struggling.

When she went to see her partners brother about stopping the loan or changing her surname on the loan application he asked what would she do for him in return? She was next seen driving home crying. What did he suggest in exchange for his help? It appears she didn't do anything as her partners brother phoned next day to tell her partner.

When she tells her partner about the car accident that resulted in her being responsible for the death of a child she actually shifts the blame. She suggests the other car was on the wrong side or the road and that the child was not properly fastened into the car seat. Even though convicted she still says she doesn't think it was her fault. There is no mention to he partner that she may have been drink driving.

Fiona has been practicing as as therapist without a licence for 16 years. That is a massive risk to take.

She was keen to repeat that she thought Walsh death was and accident (did she accidentally kill him?) and seemed eager to shift the blame. She told Cassie that it was all of the other suspects who put the body in the car it wasn't her as she was in too much of a state (just like the state she was in when police couldn't take a breath test off her years later?)

Re pen use: Dean, Fiona and Liz are right handed and Ram is left handed. If pen was inserted when face to face it would suggest a left handed person but if it was from behind then likely a right handed person.

longwayoff · 23/03/2021 12:18

Hmm. Cassie wont die but be medically retired. Sunni will be up for her job but Ram - slipped through all allegations again- will become his boss. S5 will be Sunni and Cassie off record working to bring him down because they know who dunnit and Ram will be turning the team against him because he knows that they know. But cant prove it. Yet.

LondonJax · 23/03/2021 12:23

I think it's going to be body in the car wasn't dead when they put it in, but one of them realised it was and finished Walsh off with the fountain pen. If Fiona told the truth, that Liz dropped them all in town afterwards because Robert was done for drink driving so couldn't drive, that implies either Liz found Walsh still alive when she dropped the car off or Robert discovered him alive when he moved the body. My money's on Liz (in the boot, with the fountain pen)...

I found it interesting that I remember seeing at least two of the characters using a fountain pen - Dean when he did his mother's day card in the first episode and Liz when she was doing some paperwork (last week??) I only noticed because I love fountain pens because of a teenage naice stationery obsession! I'm wondering if they were all given them as graduating the police gifts (or one of them gave them to the others as their little 'cliche' bond gifts) - which could explain why someone had a fountain pen 30 years ago.

LondonJax · 23/03/2021 12:25

ooops, sloppy sentence at the start. I meant to say they didn't realise the body wasn't a body, Walsh was still alive in the boot of the car. One of them realised he was still alive at some point and finished him off with the pen. Doesn't matter whether you're left or right handed then - it just depends which way round you're laying in the boot...
