I saw a trailer for this the other evening but DC were running around and being loud so I missed most of it. Does anyone know when it’s starting please? I don’t want to miss it as it’s brilliant!

I think that fiona was attacked by the victim and the high up police women covered it up as they were together at the time.

I think he was killed by Sheila Hancocks character as cass said it was harder in thoes days for gay women

Would love to know what lucy speeds character didn't want brought back up. I strongly think fiona ran her car off road.

DinosaurDiana · 18/03/2021 21:15

I’m thinking that the dead man might have raped Fiona. He must have done something bad to be killed.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 18/03/2021 21:20

I think her flashback is definitely a sexual assault rather than a consensual thing. And I also wonder whether we’ve met the mother/parents of the toddler killed by Fiona.

I am very much looking forward to Monday. I have no theories at all - might re watch them all so far, as there are always things I miss.
@bendmeoverbackwards had to delurk to say I used to work in the wardrobe department of many different TV dramas and there is a lot of thought that goes into what the cast wears - it matters hugely! It paints a picture, it tells you things about their mood and who they are. It makes them stand out or blend in when you need to. It tells a story of its own. I wouldn’t consider people disliking a character’s clothing or commenting on it as bitchy, male or female, it’s a talking point of any show just like the scenery, the acting or the storyline. If people were being mean about the actresses clothing then yes completely.
If it didn’t matter what the cast wore there would be no wardrobe department and they would turn up in whatever they wanted!

I love unforgotten. I’m confused by the social distancing though. Didnt Liz kiss Fiona and they sat really close on the bench? Is it just Cassie who is socially distanced as she has to be in scenes with so many people?
I just assumed it was filmed pre Covid? There's quite a lot of non social distancing going on.

Swoonforpeterbishop · 18/03/2021 21:43

Yes I wondered if most of it was shot prior and then Cassie's scenes had to be reshot or something. Or by the time those scenes were filmed, social distancing had to be put in place, but I'm finding it distracting almost!
I love that I have no idea who did it!

@CattyCactus

On a complete tangent, I used to really fancy Monarch of the Glen. And truth be told, I still would! 😂
Me too Grin

I did think it odd that Clive didn't report his brother as missing.

He could have said after a couple of weeks or so that he hadn't been able to get in touch with his brother & was worried?

Would he have had to reveal that he had seen him being chased?

JumpLeadsForTwo · 18/03/2021 22:10

@cannotoperateonthisfailure
Robert Carlyle has a definite charm - loved him in Once upon a time

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 19/03/2021 00:44

Is the special needs son who they had the charity thing for, the same one they show in a flashback?

Thanks for this. Very interesting.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/03/2021 07:43

@Swoonforpeterbishop that is so interesting. Thank you for your professional perspective! The one who springs to mind first and foremost for me in this regard is Saga from The Bridge.

I hadn't really noticed what Fiona has been wearing. Liz definitely in 'fuddy duddy' clothes, Dean 'reliable Dad' ones whilst Ram's are quite slick and 'sharp.

DinosaurDiana · 19/03/2021 07:46

I like it how, when the series starts, you don’t know what the images mean in the film/music bit at the beginning. As the series goes on you realise that they are all hints to the story.
And the music is lovely.
It really is a very well put together programme.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/03/2021 07:55

It really is a very well put together programme. I totally agree. I don't watch much on ITV (although I did watch both series of The Bay) but Unforgotten is always on my 'must watch' list.

Oh I didn't know that! I'll watch them closely next time.
Standrewsschool · 19/03/2021 08:38

Talking about wardrobe, I remember reading an article about Bradley Walsh. He was interviewing for Law and Order UK (another superb series), and was running late. He hadn’t done his hair, and it was slicked back, and hadn’t dressed for the part. However, the look he had was exactly what the producers were looking for, and contributed to him getting the part.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 19/03/2021 12:04

@Swoonforpeterbishop: that's interesting - I remember reading about the Harry potter costume team and in particular, the work that went into creating the right 'texture' and level of float for voldemort's costume, and also the work in managing continuity around clothing over time (where clothes needs to get increasingly trashed, despite being filmed sometimes in the wrong order) - it was fascinating, an amazing area of work to be in (although obv very different to standard contemporary clothing here). @NewModelArmyMayhem18: Saga's coat, leather trews and car define her don't they! I get really confused by any shots of the actor not looking/dressed like Saga: the look is so part of her identity.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 19/03/2021 13:48

@AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore yes indeed! To the point that I saw the same actress in an Aussie thriller (one that's set in the Outback) not so long ago. She really looked the same (facially) but without Saga's facial expressions or clothes (you would really call it her uniform!), it took me quite a while to recognise her.

mazylou · 19/03/2021 19:48

I love this series, so clever.

I don’t think you hire an actress like Sheila Hancock and give her three tiny scenes or whatever she’s had. I’m expecting her to have a huge moment coming up pretty soon.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 20/03/2021 09:48

@NewModelArmyMayhem18: yes, I'd forgotten how much her facial expressions are different when she's not Saga: I mean, I know that's acting but the transformation is incredible (if you'd recommend the series do let me know!) @mazylou: I agree! Have I missed why she didn't attend the passing out ceremony..?

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 20/03/2021 09:53

Have I missed why she didn't attend the passing out ceremony..?

That is certainly something to ponder on. Surely we'll eventually be given explanations for all the family absences on the day?

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 20/03/2021 10:37

There seems to be a theme of family letting people down in this series:

Cassie's dad cutting the boys out of their inheritance;
The brother of the murder victim not stepping in to save him;
None of the alleged perps' families being there for them on one of the most important days of their life.

Hmmm.

And yes totally agree that you'd expect Sheila Hancock to get much more of a gig in this than three short bed scenes!

The thriller is called Mystery Road (IPlayer) @ AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore. The one that the actress who plays Saga is in is the second series but you really need to watch the first season to get in the zone!

KatherineJaneway · 20/03/2021 14:16

I really enjoyed Mystery Road, well worth a watch.
