I saw a trailer for this the other evening but DC were running around and being loud so I missed most of it. Does anyone know when it’s starting please? I don’t want to miss it as it’s brilliant!

PC Fran's coat was quite upsetting too.

The women also talked about telling 'the truth'. Absolutely must be an agreed story across the board.

BentBastard · 16/03/2021 17:33

@SingToTheSky

Sanjeev really is brilliant

I am wondering what they meant about just sticking to the truth - was that the two men saying that when they met in the woods? Sticking to the truth would mean it was the women who actually did wrong 🤔

Except the women said that same aging about sticking to the truth too. Sounds like they mean a truth that the concocted together.

BentBastard · 16/03/2021 17:34

Sorry Daily. Didn't read your post before completely repeating what you said Blush

CherryValanc · 16/03/2021 17:35

Oh this is a shame. Male actor = concentrate on talent but female actor = negatively concentrate on clothes and looks.

😔

Dailyhandtowelwash · 16/03/2021 17:35

Just like the suspects then? Wink

CherryValanc · 16/03/2021 17:37

Fiona didn't stick to "the truth". She's the loose canon.

Though maybe the opposite seeing she manage to keep it from her partner that she'd killed a child when drink driving (and still hasn't told him the full story)

Dailyhandtowelwash · 16/03/2021 17:38

Really? Fran's coat was a shocker which is an entirely legitimate thing to say. I've made no other comment on any actor in any way, and as the actor is dressed by the production team rather than personal choice, I don't take it as any reflection on her abilities or appearance. I assume that, as with all characters, her clothes are meant to reflect something about her personality.
SingToTheSky · 16/03/2021 17:41

Bent I was wondering if the women said similar, I remembered liz saying something about letting it come back to them “naturally”

I realise now this is the problem of watching live on the app - no subtitles

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 16/03/2021 17:46

Not so, Cherry! I've written a million posts across a MN decade on Nicola Walker's total brilliance as an actor. And whatever I've said above about Liz (being scared of crossing her iirc) is testament to how convincingly sinister she is.

Almost all the clothes in this show are pretty vile - I guess that's the look the producers wanted.

If it helps, I find Phaldut Sharma's combination of swagger, muttering and transcendent uxoriousness powerfully sexy. Wink

CherryValanc · 16/03/2021 17:46

Yes really, was just noticable in the comments about the characters. (Includes Cassie's face = miserable).

Just a shame it happens.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 16/03/2021 17:49

But that's her expression, that her character has. Isn't it? I've seen a comment about Sunny's expression too.

I don't disagree with you at all about the tendency in general to talk about women's figures and attractiveness rather than their acting skills, but I just haven't picked that up on this thread.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 16/03/2021 18:02

Shiela Hancock is fab as the evil mother who presumably discovered the crime and is blackmailing her despised daughter.

My first comment on this thread; nothing at all about her appearance!

Hmm ... I really think that on balance I can absolve myself from the binary prejudice you cite. It's true I'm more likely to comment on women's clothes - because I dress myself and am interested. I'm less likely to comment on a man's clothes, unless they're staggeringly well dressed, because I rarely need to concern myself with any man's wardrobe, and so notice less.

I definitely don't stint on praise for female actors as actors.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 16/03/2021 18:07

Interesting CherryValace. I really noticed both Cassie and Fran's clothes this week purely because they were so 'normal'/not aimed at a male gaze: I think blokes even on 'real life style' TV shows are often dressed normally but women are dressier/more formal/more styled than real people. I really enjoyed the lack of style being shown by both of them as an active rebellion against this (but I may have over-read this!)

I agree with other than the relationship between Cassie and Sunny is so sensitively portrayed by both of them: I love the combination of huge respect with a definite sense of hierarchy - they both play it beautifully, but the extra dimension of tension in the Ram interview was masterful!

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 16/03/2021 18:25

Everybody is entitled to have their opinion @CherryValanc....mine just happened to be that Cassie has a miserable look about her. Which she does

jay55 · 16/03/2021 18:57

Had to rewind bits and put subtitles on this week so much mumbling.

It is interesting that all the four have criminal tendencies.

Also don't understand the explanation on the mummification.

macaronirabbit · 16/03/2021 19:07

We are so grateful that you can pause the tv. We pause and have a little catch up to ask questions/check this thread/make sure we're all up to speed!Grin then can fast forward the ad breaks!

CongealedCrags · 16/03/2021 19:08

Another week where she doesn't snog the Laird. Met him in the cafe and didn't even peck him on the cheek, hold his hand or anything.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 16/03/2021 19:18

Speaking of social distancing - I was thinking, just before they hugged, that the boy playing Dean's younger son looked very like him. (Actually both sons do in different ways.) The fact that they didn't have to stand two metres apart makes me think I might be right. Don't have the patience to scroll through the credits ...

Rhubarb01 · 16/03/2021 19:20

I thought the scene when Ram and Dean met in the woods was interesting. It was the first time Ram seemed less cocky and sure of himself. Dean seemed the more assured, and the ex police officer they interviewed reckoned Dean had a first class brain for police work. My money is on him too.

BruceAndNosh · 16/03/2021 19:53

Actually it's a shame that some posters are having their comments unfairly criticised.

But I evened up the sexism by commenting on Ram's perfect mouth. Blush

CongealedCrags · 16/03/2021 19:58

I would guess some scenes were pre- SD and some not. There was another Cass and Sunny car scene this week where she got in one door and he got in the other but neither was in the other's shot! The office scenes have them all behind desks or away from each other. All the detecting Fran and Murray were doing was not up close. The lab scenes though - Sunny was centimetres away from the decapitated head, although I suppose it was dead Grin Even Cass in her house had the table between her and her son. And the cafe table between her and the Laird.

Dean seems so "nice" but yes, perhaps that's all a trick. He's done something in his past that his wife knows about and he changed his name before he went to Hendon - why?

The actor that played Clive is too well known to have only been in that one scene - there's a clue there too.

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 16/03/2021 20:10

The actor that played Clive is too well known to have only been in that one scene - there's a clue there too.

Aha! (Please let us be right!) I want all the four's protestations of innocence about the corpse to turn out to be entirely truthful - and all their suspicious activity to be about other stuff in their pasts.

margoyuwer · 16/03/2021 20:17

I thought Fiona's BIL was too well known for a minor part, but then i realised i only knew him from Waterloo Road anyway! I dont trust the too well know so must be guilty/have a bigger part etc, especially after Stephen Tompkinson lasted less than 2 minutes in The Bay

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2021 20:18

Those short Trousers were awful

I did notice them

Suprised I didn’t comment on them 😂

CongealedCrags · 16/03/2021 20:46

I suppose even Gwyneth Paltrow is only in the first 10 minutes of Contagion Grin
