It’s cold, dark and there’s a pandemic but one bright light is the new series of drag race tomorrow. The last series was so joyful and really put British drag back on the map. I hope this series is just as good

Already love Ginny Lemon, who are your picks to win

Dfod
I have a non-binary, 14 year old lesbian who loves it. If they are fine with it and can watch it for the sheer escapism, then what is your problem?
Stop trying to cause issue where there is one.

You do realise we don't all have to hold the same opinion as your 14 year old daughter don't you Confused

Can’t wait for it! We’re watching the new US one at the mo and loving it. You’re right - it’s exactly what we need at the moment (‘we’ = me and DH). The last UK one was hilarious.

lilroo87 · 13/01/2021 12:56

I'm looking forward to it. I know someone appearing this series so it's even more exciting for me 😊

I knew one of the queens from last series which made it all the more enjoyable, glad to see them do so well, just a shame the pandemic as stopped pretty much all the drag entertainers from working for a year,

still have the frock destroyers song stuck in my head after a year too Grin

Oooh who?! I'm so envious.

Winterpaw · 13/01/2021 13:08

So you're fairly new here and didn't realise there was a TV section? And you're not engaging with "goady posters" by which I expect you mean ones who find drag misogynistic and thus offensive to women. As a bunch of men portraying ridiculous caricatures of "women" is surely bound to be.

Just as i look back at TV series from the 70s-90s and cringe, I hope that one day drag will be seen for what it is. An anachronism. YABU for finding it entertaining.

Mamette · 13/01/2021 13:13

@MsVestibule

Men dressing up as over the top parodies of bitchy women? What's not to love?
Why “bitchy”? What is a “bitchy woman”?

A bit outing even though I wouldnt describe us as close friends but was really interesting to hear some Back stage info.

Such as they aren’t allowed to speak to each other when they aren’t on the set. They are kept separate. They also film multiple endings so it can’t be spoiled

Of course, but you told us we shouldn't have a problem because your 14 year old daughter doesn't. Many women do have a problem with it. And it's fine to say that. It's interesting that people who do like drag don't respond to the issues others have.

This thread has been moved to tv from aibu and is a discussion about a tv show. I’d rather this not be political. No one has to justify why the like drag to you or anyone else

I’m sure there’s another Post somewhere you can go and be exasperated on, let’s leave this one for us drag fans to have a chat on, eh?

OP posts:
iklboo · 13/01/2021 13:37

No I didn't. That was an entirely different poster.

Nobody has to explain why we like a program you don't. Or why we don't find it offensive. It's personal taste.

@Tiktokersmiracle

And if my Ghanaian NDN likes the Black And White Minstrel show, or Til Death Do Us Part...would that make it okay to be racist?

LiverColouredBitchPointer · 13/01/2021 13:58

And if your child is non-binary, they cannot be lesbian, as lesbian means females being sexually attracted to females.

iklboo · 13/01/2021 14:08

Stop now. This has been moved to Telly Addicts not AIBU. You don't like drag - fine. That's your prerogative. Some people do. That's theirs.

Omg yes! I love drag race and I adored the first U.K. series. I've watched the US one but I actually prefer the U.K. one, I think it's better. It's so nice actually having a weekly program to follow as well, there are so many entire series posted that you end up watching 2-3 episodes at once

Tiktokersmiracle · 13/01/2021 16:38

Can I ask @mnhq to explain what was wrong about being proud of my DD? Is someone being non-binary offensive now
Really not impressed
If it's the dfod bit, that is widely used on here without issue
So which is it?
OP I'm sorry your thread was derailed, and that HQ have effectively allowed it. I was told MN could be anti trans and non binary rights but that's ridiculous.

Oh whatever The OP started a discussion about a sodding program. No one is forcing you to watch it. Now please go and patronise someone else
covetingthepreciousthings · 14/01/2021 20:14

Just checking in! Loved the early seasons of Drag Race USA but fell a bit out of love of it and didn't watch the latest ones.. however loved the U.K. version.

Really looking forward to this as a bit of light relief during the pandemic!

I was glad to see The Vivienne pop up on Sewing Bee NY special too.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/01/2021 20:15

Is it just on iplayer? I would have thought they'd have put it on BBC1 or at least 2 as the last one seemed v popular..

Yeah it's on Monday, 10.45pm on two I think
Iamthewombat · 15/01/2021 00:21

I didn’t expect the Queen quality to be as high in series 2 - expected that all the best ones would have been in series 1 - but actually they are just as good.

Tia Kofi is my favourite so far. She’s a natural comedian, a bit like Baga was. Ginny Lemon also intriguing: like the child of Timmy Mallet and Su Pollard.

Iamthewombat · 15/01/2021 00:23

Also, how handsome are Cherry Valentine and Tayce in real life??
