It’s cold, dark and there’s a pandemic but one bright light is the new series of drag race tomorrow. The last series was so joyful and really put British drag back on the map. I hope this series is just as good

Already love Ginny Lemon, who are your picks to win

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee

I read on a Facebook drag race page that tonights is the last pre-lockdown episode. But obvs, that might not be right.

And apparently tonight one queen has a proper hissyfit over being up for elimination. Like proper dramatics!

I bet that was awhora
Smallgoon · 04/02/2021 17:01

I bet that was awhora

Cannot stand her. I loved Veronica for sticking up for Tia last week. We all know Tia is a bit basic but Awhora just comes across as a horrible 'mean girls' type.

iklboo · 04/02/2021 18:28

I don't believe Awhora has been 'blacklisted' in the fashion industry for being gay / doing drag. The fashion world has many, many gay employees, designers, staff. They wouldn't give a gnat's chuff about drag either. More like he's difficult to work with or not as good as he thinks he is.

Tiktokersmiracle · 04/02/2021 20:25

We love Veronica and Tia, even though we know Tia's costumes are off Amazon and cost about £20, cos our pub drag friend has the same ones he lends DD for when they do drag. But there is something endearing about Tia, and not every drag can sew up a costume out of a pair of curtains and a bit of razzle dazzle, or has the spends to pay someone else to.
DD was most offended by Awhora slagging Tia's outfit because the first one they had for their first drag was £3.75 from the charity shop, and I had to pin it at he back as it was a bit big, so they are not impressed with nastiness.

Smallgoon · 04/02/2021 20:39

Just wanted the latest episode. Have to say I found it quite boring... Thought the meltdown at the end was rather pathetic. Am glad the person that left ended up leaving.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 04/02/2021 21:42

I’m not sure why the person who left did, but I’m really sad that they’ve gone Sad

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 04/02/2021 21:43

I've just watched, so not a massive meltdown, more of just a runaway!! I thought the winner was well deserved, and that the 3rd bottom queen saved herself with that outfit, it was great!!

Dizzybintess · 04/02/2021 22:17

Im loving Tayce!

Flavabobble · 04/02/2021 23:03

They didn't so much run away as run into the dressing room to leave a message on the mirror.

This is the one before lockdown isn't it? Do you think they'll all go home and practise sewing.

Cheesypasta · 05/02/2021 00:51

Looks like the run continues without any break now though. Here's the Radio Times piece about the break in filming. 7 months!

MyFavouriteIsWhoeverlsQuietest · 05/02/2021 06:06

Really enjoyed today's episode. Cannot believe I would have done a better goth than pair of them put together...you only need to channel Noel Fielding in the IT crowd, or make jokes about him/Robert Smith or break into Cure/Sisters of Mercy songs, surely?!
The near evictee who came third was terrible - no hint of a character. Definitely the One Who Got Away. I didn't think the one that went was strop city, I think there was an element of burnout rather than meltdown, not feeling 'got', doing something for their sister, jumping before pushed/leaving on own terms/doing something memorable. Charitably it was self-sacrificial, uncharitably writing on the wall. Can't be the song, most know that one without having to learn it?

Smallgoon · 05/02/2021 11:44

I must be the only person who thought Veronica's goth was actually ok. I thought she had 'miserable' down to a T, and looked great doing it.

Cheesypasta · 05/02/2021 12:07

No you're not, @Smallgoon, I couldn't understand why everyone was so critical. Other than because someone has to be deemed to have 'bombed'. I thought Ginny got it totally wrong with the weather presenter. She made it into a whole character she had in mind but that wasn't actually doing the weather. I felt for her being asked why she didn't wear a heel though. She did have block heels on but presumably stilettos are expected.

Smallgoon · 05/02/2021 12:16

I thought Veronica's goth was better than Sister Sister's, and I had to agree with Lawrence that SS was finding somebody else to blame.

I too felt bad when they asked Ginny why she wasn't in heels. I wish there wasn't always such an archetypal "drag criteria" that DQs must adhere to.

Smallgoon · 05/02/2021 12:19

*I also do feel that when a previous winner has a bad week, it's an excuse by the others to really stick the boot in. You can sense that the others want Veronica/Laurence to fail, which I guess is natural since they're competition, but I don't enjoy the circling/passive bullying so much. And whilst I respected Tayce for sticking up for Asstina, I didn't appreciate her telling Tia that "everybody" thinks she's basic so Asstina should have stayed instead of her...

Tiktokersmiracle · 05/02/2021 18:50

@Smallgoon

I totally got what Veronica was going for, I was that moody, disinterested, bored and rolling eyes goth teen! Sister Sister was dull, I've not really thought much of them throughout. Laurence is just brill. But Tia and Awhora together was magic, I would watch them together without hesitation! DD and I were dying if shock about how nice Awhora became out the blue. It was rather disconcerting. DD got quite emotional! Then threw a cushion at me for pointing out her emotional moment 😂
Sirzy · 05/02/2021 18:54

I didn’t like how Veronica was made to feel bad on sister sisters behalf. I think sister sister was expecting to be carried through by Veronica.

That said Veronica was very much out of her comfort zone and I do wonder if her “upright” attitude will make things a Struggle for her

ShinyPie · 05/02/2021 19:08

I didn't feel as though Veronica 'bombed' either, and it annoyed me how quick Sister Sister was to point the finger of blame when their performances/style have been lacklustre.

Tia impressed me this week, quite liked the vodoo concept behind their outfit.

Sirzy · 05/02/2021 19:23

I think the COVID break may help TIA massively

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/02/2021 10:42

I didn’t like how Veronica was made to feel bad on sister sisters behalf. I think sister sister was expecting to be carried through by Veronica.

I agree, Sister Sister just looked peeved the whole way through - if she was so unhappy with it, why didn’t she do better to pull the performance up rather than hover about with a “Well this is all shit, isn’t it?” look slapped all over her face.

I also agree about there not being a proscribed drag aesthetic - it should be about expression and artistry, not a cookie cutter template of massive heels etc. That said, I’m always incredibly impressed by the heels some of them manage to dance in, and I say that as someone who is used to 4 or 5 inch heels!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/02/2021 10:43

I will also be very interested to see who didn’t use their break wisely...

iklboo · 06/02/2021 11:10

Agree SS was blaming Veronica for her own poor performance. If you're doing improv & it looks like your partner is struggling you either up your own game or you feed them lines till they can pick up.

Ginny could have said earlier about her health because Ru totally understands that - he even said 'your health is more important'.

Tiktokersmiracle · 06/02/2021 11:14

Yeah Ginny was OK but I don't think they've found their drag niche. They were more variety with drag thrown in.
They did though audition for XFactor a few years back so I don't think even they know what they want to be.

Furbylicious · 07/02/2021 09:14

@iklboo I thought that about Awhora too.
It seems odd that he was rejected because of drag, especially given. I imagine fashion is a tough world and lots of people don't make it

Furbylicious · 07/02/2021 09:21

Blush my phone glitched and posted on its own!

I was trying to say, drag is quite cool these days, isn't it? I think it's more likely that Awhora just didn't make the cut as it's so competitive.

I always forget who Sister Sister is, she doesn't seem to stand out at anything and I don't think she'll last long. Veronica wasn't the worst performer, I think she got in her own head about it being improv but I could see what she was going for. She definitely saved herself with the runway look.

I agree the person who left had probably had enough rather than it being a hissy fit. I was surprised that Ru didn't mention or make a joke of it in the final judging. He seemed a bit non plussed by it all and I thought as an experienced performer he'd be able to turn it into something. Maybe it was a time issue.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the break. I'm hoping everyone gets through ok! Lockdown was shit for most people's mental health and any of them relying on a performing income will struggle
