Just finished rewatching the 3 series, one of my all time favourite tv shows. For me the funniest moment is when Dave says to Nessa 'are you talking about our relationship? Or the Calor gas?' And then when Nessa and Smithy are on the dodgems and they stop to see Dave standing holding a tank of gas Grin even thinking about it has me laughing out loud Grin

Didn’t Nessa sleep with Dodi when she worked at Harrods? I think she says “haven’t heard a peep from him in years” Shock Grin

I think she also does some fortune telling briefly in the caravan.

Lies! He was her third husband after Clive,

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 15/01/2021 08:42

I had to look it up but apparently the Pete Townshend thing is this:
When Nessa refers to Pete Townshend and asking where the book is. She's talking about some legal trouble he had in 2003 in which he was cautioned by police due to child pornography on his computer in which he said was for a book he was writing based on a essay posted in 2001 on his website

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 15/01/2021 08:43

Though I didn’t write that, of course it should say “explicit images of children” not “child porn”.

DaveCoaches · 15/01/2021 08:57

Thanks NoOne I always thought it was something you weren’t meant to completely get, like Owain Hughes.

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 15/01/2021 09:03

Me too DaveCoaches! You can tell Pam has no idea when Nessa says it.

SophieB100 · 15/01/2021 10:53

"My motto is; fags and weed, glue and speed. But I draws the line at crack. That way everyone knows where they stand.” Grin

HermannlovesPauline · 15/01/2021 16:20

@DaveCoaches Love that clip - you could all be riddled Grin

Owain Hughes is owe Wayne Hughes. As in do you owe Wayne Hughes. Or have I just stated the bleedin obvious!
WeeWillyWanky · 16/01/2021 13:30

I love it when Pam tells Stacey about Smithy's mum having an affair with Pauline, the Headmistress of the school where she worked as a dinner lady, and Gavin and Mick say it's all a load of rubbish. Later on, Gavin and Stacey go to Smithy's and when he asks Rudy where his mum is, she says "Having lunch with Pauline!" I love the look between G & S when she says that.

ILoveYou3000 · 16/01/2021 16:06

@Popsy321 it's not pronounced O-wayne, it's O-wine. So, that doesn't work.

I'm sure I read somewhere it doesn't actually mean anything. There's no explanation. James and Ruth just made it up.

pistachionuts · 16/01/2021 17:39

@WeeWillyWanky i didn’t notice that bit until I’d watched it a couple of times, that’s the thing I love about Gavin and Stacey in comparison to a lot of other sitcoms, you pick up on new little jokes all the time so it’s always enjoyable to rewatch

NooneElseIsSingingMySong · 16/01/2021 23:54

I only noticed the cream round Nessa’s mouth after I’d watched it several times. It’s a gift that keeps on giving.

ThereWeAreThen79 · 20/11/2021 06:12

My favourite scene is when they are unwrapping the presents at Pam and Micks. They all get a single celebration chocolate and start comparing the best ones. When Gwen embarrassingly shows the Bounty one they all start commiserating with her. Grin
I love how normal it seems despite these bizarre moments.

I also love when Dave says that Neil the baby smells and needs a nappy change and Nessa says "No, it's my feet." The look on Daves face. Grin

Doris singing The Smiths.

Deano talking about his half coffee or half tea drink.

Nessa informing not asking Gwen that she is minding Neil the baby. Also when she tells Stacey and Bryn "I'm just gonna drop him round. What's she gonna do?"

DontWantTheRivalry · 20/11/2021 16:59

This thread has made me want to go and re-watch the whole series!!

I’m not a fan of the actual G&S characters but I love Pam, Mick, Smithy and Ness!!! I find Gwen really dull.

Such an amazing show!!!!

Lockeddownagain · 20/11/2021 17:52

The funniest bits in the first Xmas special when they are at the service station and dave tells gwen they'll go soon and he's just having a break from the driving while playing a driving game that kills me everything 🤣🤣

Lockeddownagain · 20/11/2021 17:53

Where's the salad dor
There's the salad ✌

Twospaniels · 20/11/2021 20:14

I love the bit where Nessa borrows the batteries from the remote and takes them upstairs for a bit of “me time”, then comes downstairs and rinses just her forefinger and middle finger under the tap in the kitchen!

Heartofglass12345 · 20/11/2021 20:21

To tell you the truth Gwen, I'm absolutely twatted Grin
Most things Pam, Dawn and Pete do, I think they're my favourites! Although I do love Bryan as well.

I recommend bad education if you haven't seen it, Matt Horne is the headteacher of a school, he's so funny in it

Glassofshloer · 20/11/2021 20:36

Loved reading these! For me, in this order:

  1. Bryn’s SURPRISE! SURPRISE! SURPRISE!
  2. Pete punching Dave which I NEVER saw coming until it happened
  3. ‘Smithy darling!! Let’s do some SHOTS’ and the ensuing carnage

Bloody loved every second of it.

Glassofshloer · 20/11/2021 20:37

@Twospaniels

Wasn’t she John Prescott’s PA too, as well as his mistress with a flat in Westminster and use of one of the jags
He did a guest appearance at her wedding iirc Grin
StormyCornishSeas · 20/11/2021 21:46

Ruddie & Smithy Singing American Boy by Estelle & Kanye West

Whenever Smithy makes an excuse why his girlfriend Lucy??? Can't go somewhere. She's grounded, got a school disco has Guides. Gavin's reaction is funny

TedImgoingmad · 20/11/2021 22:36

When Gwen and Stacey are asking Nessa where she’s going to live once she has the baby, and Stacey explains that Nessa lives with a band that includes someone from Catatonia and Noel from Hearsay.

Nessa replies “Noel said whatever I do, wherever I go, he’s going to be there - pure and simple”. (Which are the words to the song Pure and Simple, by Hearsay, for those of you know don’t know.)

Noel is at the wedding, but you sort of miss him because John Prescott is there - they are sitting together IIRC.

One of my favourite bits not already mentioned: Pete and Dawn role playing at G&S's wedding to try to inject some passion into their relationship. Pete pretending to be a pilot and calls himself Captain Marc Overmars (one for the Arsenal fans).
