Anyone else watching?

New series started tonight. Bonkers toff from SW London wants to convert a building in a cemetery.

Daily mail article

Daily Mail (sorry) article about the build.

Jason is 50 - he looks very good for his age. As his child was eight,I presumed he was a lot younger. His mum was a shipping heiress who left £20 million in her will. Doesn’t really say anything about his ex.

@Smidge001

Being nosy now, but did they say what had happened to his wife/the boy's mother? (not sure if he was married to her)
He referred to her as his ex wife and Kevin commented at the start that they shared custody.
Smidge001 · 07/01/2021 19:39

Thanks

We were wondering where the boy's mother was too.

We also expected a dog to appear when he called the woman. I think Kev did too, given the expression on his face. And what on earth did she mean when she said she wasn't scared but would be 'tonight'? It looked too summery to be Halloween.

I’m not obsessed with this programme, honest. However, the article says he’s 50, and he was in the army for eight years. I presume that was after uni (presuming he went) or straight from school. That means he’s not been in the army for nearly twenty years (from start of project). It seems to still have a huge influence on him still. I’m not sure eight years in the army twenty years ago renders him an army man. Obviously he could have left more recently.

This episode was definantly a Grand Design classic.

The not being scared comment made me think she was a trophy girlfriend and hadn’t been in the house much.

viques · 07/01/2021 21:24

@SlantyBaws

Did he really just present his girlfriend as if she was part of the house? Gosh that was an awful ending.
At least she wasn’t pregnant, which is the usual GD surprise ending!
TodgerStrunk · 08/01/2021 14:53

Did he really just present his girlfriend as if she was part of the house?

Now I'm thinking it's a good job he actually went to get her from the next room rather than just whistle for her and pat his leg Grin

Directionerforever · 08/01/2021 20:25

As an aside me and DH once got lost in the bloody maze in the rain at Traquair House 😂

Notmulan · 08/01/2021 22:57

“Justin’s house is the place you want to stay in
Everybody's welcome here in Justins House
There's Justin and George and Little Thunder too
And someone else, we think you know who”

Notmulan · 08/01/2021 22:58

A brilliant episode

scrivette · 09/01/2021 13:49

Watched this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

I assumed his mother had died during filming and that was where he got the extra money from.

I thought he was wonderfully bonkers and told DH I would divorce him and marry Justin so was disappointed at the end when he brought out his new girlfriend I also thought it would be a new dog.

SoupDragon · 13/01/2021 21:20

Slightly different budget this week!

thenightsky · 13/01/2021 21:22

Lovely house if they pull it off.

MistyMinge2 · 13/01/2021 21:39

Tonight's episode is lovely but sad. I really hope she doesn't get any sicker.

SoupDragon · 13/01/2021 21:45

Yes - I'm worried every time Kevin does the "bad news" voice.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/01/2021 21:46

God they’ve been through a lot at their age

SoupDragon · 13/01/2021 21:49

The wood is beautiful.

NearWildHeaven · 13/01/2021 21:58

It's just lovely.

I was really worried but what an inspirational episode

BigSandyBalls2015 · 13/01/2021 22:00

Fabulous place, what a couple

SoupDragon · 13/01/2021 22:00

Yes. Just amazing!

Englishgirl9 · 13/01/2021 22:00

Tonight's barn conversion is gorgeous. They did such an amazing job, I'm so impressed. Although I did feel stressed the entire episode that there was going to be bad news about the wife's health.

MistyMinge2 · 13/01/2021 22:00

What an absolutely beautiful home they have built. I have to admit to shedding a tear or two at the end. I really hope they both get to enjoy their lovely home for many years to come. An inspirational couple.

onemouseplace · 13/01/2021 22:00

Oh, that was lovely. I can't believe he built the vast majority of that himself! These sort of episodes are Grand Designs at its absolute best.

Liftmusic · 13/01/2021 22:02

What a lovely couple, I feel a bit tearful.
