Anyone else watching?

New series started tonight. Bonkers toff from SW London wants to convert a building in a cemetery.

He was such a master craftsman and the house looked great, just not one I'd ever want to live in. It also didn't look like they'd changed the windows that were wrong as they still opened from the wrong side.

Loved last night’s design and the blokes handiwork. I tried to warm to them as a couple but the over the top kissing all the time and the woman’s faux girly gurning and giggling was awful. Like a silly Una Stubbs!

Jujujuly · 09/09/2021 19:07

@Dulra

Weird that one of them obviously had kids already (there were bunk beds in the baby’s room and kids’ artwork all over the fridge) and they weren’t mentioned at all

Probably from a previous relationship and they probably didn't have consent to include them.

I loved this episode yes not a great site but a better built house for the location then the semi-ds next door.

Yes I’m sure that’s right. Just found it weird that they didn’t even mention their existence and then all the emphasis on them having the ivf and Kevin saying “now you’re a real family” etc just seems a bit off in the context. Unlike other grand designs not much seemed to go wrong so I guess they needed to pad out the episode a bit (the pregnancy test in the portaloo was especially grim).

I wonder is it for her niece and nephew ? she has a few photos of them on their Triangle House insta page, seems to be quite close to them.

Just looked at her Instagram and it seems like they do fostering, so that would explain extra beds and artwork but children that can’t be mentioned or shown.

I really liked the house this week (despite the location). I always like the ones where the owner is really gifted at their craft and they do most of the work themselves.

It was stunning such a vision and achievement. They were a lovely couple no idea how they coped with all the stress he had definitely aged but a few months relaxing in his new home and pool will do him the world of good

Mrsjamin · 30/09/2021 14:36

Oh my days this weeks was good. A dream pond!

Laughingravy · 01/10/2021 09:53

I loved the swimming pond - there was another one on a property show recently - but disappointed by yet another grandstanding £ million plus megabox house, which we actually saw very little of.

Ghislainedefeligonde · 05/10/2021 20:01

I don’t believe they only went £8k over. Given how wildly extravagant some of it was eg didn’t kevin say that had overspent £10k on planting!!
It was beautiful but total nightmare with little kids having all that open water surrounding the house. You couldn’t just let them out for a play.
Also struggled to see how it’s an eco project when it involved pulling down a perfectly fixable house (that prob had lots of lovely period details too Sad) not to mention all the concrete. So I was a bit Hmm about that one tbh!

BadgeronaMoped · 06/10/2021 19:24

It was very nice to look at, but it was just so, so much money. Like the other house built by the property developer with the fancy cars (this series), it left me cold because of the insane price tag. I do understand that often the people who go on this programme are using it as advertising (architects I mean), I suppose the whole point of going on TV is to show off a bit. I'm such a grump Grin sat there rolling my eyes and saying "my heart bleeds for you" when she was complaining about the old boiler in the original house.

For context, my favourite ever Grand Design is the cruck-frame house built by the woodsman. Earthy, not too big, and not a big show-off.

FancyFlipFlops · 07/10/2021 15:19

@BadgeronaMoped, I loved Bens house and his story and so glad he was able to make a business from what he does. Loved the return programmes as well with his new wife and baby and when they put the extension on and the fact he helped build the community shop.

Did anyone see the latest one where the young couple were going to restore the ruins and build the house around/on them. I said to DH as we were introduced to the ruins “what’s the betting that they have to tear them down”…bingo!

longtompot · 13/10/2021 21:28

Anyone watching this evening's program? I do not like Geoff at all. His house looks like it might be ok, though not in keeping for the area imo.

thenightsky · 13/10/2021 21:35

I'm not taking to Geoff either. Seems very arrogant. Wonder why his wife left.

Hepzibar · 13/10/2021 21:40

Probably because he's never wrong 🙄

Haha I thought that too. I wonder if she's watching?
Laughingravy · 15/10/2021 09:14

I think Kevin was quite careful in his choice of words. He had it right with bungalow in the sky. He could have met the planning requirements and spent a whole lot less.
As for Geoff I kept thinking of Harry Enfield's 'Loads of Money!' character, though his daughter was lovely.

Jinnybean · 28/10/2021 20:33

anyone watched it 😂🙈
