Anyone else watching?

New series started tonight. Bonkers toff from SW London wants to convert a building in a cemetery.

Oh wow, it is amazing.

Blows my mind that people can afford to do it.

SoupDragon · 06/01/2021 21:55

Oh my... it's amazing!

SoupDragon · 06/01/2021 21:56

It's just beautiful. It's not blingy or stark or ostentatious (which is odd!)

BarryGlendenning · 06/01/2021 21:56

He spoke of his son going to boarding school as if it was something he had no control over and wasn't quite sure how it had happened.

simonthedog · 06/01/2021 21:56

He is bonkers, the house is gorgeous.

1990s · 06/01/2021 21:59

Introducing his girlfriend with such ceremony at the end was SO weird

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/01/2021 22:00

OMG what an odd ending, Kevin’s face Grin

OhBollocksToIt · 06/01/2021 22:00

Bet his gf can’t believe her luck.

wishingitwasfriday · 06/01/2021 22:00

Beautiful house, so homely.
Strange ending thoughConfused

SlantyBaws · 06/01/2021 22:03

Did he really just present his girlfriend as if she was part of the house? Gosh that was an awful ending.

OP posts:
Frazzlefrazle · 06/01/2021 22:03

Omg what was that ending! That was a great start to the series. Bloody love grand designs. Like someone else said he seemed so confused that his kid went to boarding school.

PolkadotsAndCandyfloss · 06/01/2021 22:04

Yeah and the way the girlfriend said ‘he’s really nice’ as if they’d just met was a bit odd too.

He might be in a bit of trouble now if his travel company is going down the drain! Still, he can just sell his other property or investments.

bibliomania · 06/01/2021 22:09

I admire the vision but it's not what I would buy with a budget of £4 mill. Can you imagine having a toddler in that house? Headfirst down the stone steps. Good luck trying to attach a stairgate to those.

OooErrThor · 06/01/2021 22:09

That bloke was properly bonkers and when he said he's like to introduce Kevin to someone, I thought it was going to be another dog Confused

Craftycorvid · 06/01/2021 22:09

Poor girlfriend clearly struggling for words - and not because English was her second language, methinks!

The end result is just a bit grim - part soulless conference centre, part posh knocking shop. Sorry, that’ll be a no from me.

quarentini · 06/01/2021 22:33

Slightly eccentric, exceptionally polite and a thoroughly nice chap .
I loved him and the house 😀

lollipoprainbow · 06/01/2021 23:01

That swimming pool! The stuff of nightmares

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 06/01/2021 23:05

I think he might have been ex-army? Mentioned somewhere, maybe Radio Times.

FancySomeChips · 06/01/2021 23:06

Laughing so hard at this!
I don’t have £4 to rub together and he’s £4mill down and I don’t like the end product!

Funny guy, completely bonkers though. Missed the ending so going to have to find it on catch up or something after the reviews on here.

Also why didn’t he include a new family crypt in the design??

Getitdonesharpish · 06/01/2021 23:06

That was the funniest ending of a grand designs I have ever seen. I thought he was going to introduce a new dog but instead he presents a woman! Really odd!

Alwaysfrank · 06/01/2021 23:06

Found it on google earth - Fulham cemetary. I hope he has a good security system installed because I found it very easily and he's told the world he is abroad a lot!

RedHotChiliChips · 06/01/2021 23:39

Yes, Fulham cemetery near Kew.

He was bonkers but that kind of priviledged upbringing seems to give you iron strong self believe. I loved watching it, he made a great tv subject.

Kevin’s face when the GF said she feels scared in the house 😂

RedHotChiliChips · 06/01/2021 23:42

I loved the house too, he had a great vision about it all. Maintenance will cost a bomb too, he’s not there to check ph level of that pool and all I could think was how to prevent lime scale on that infinity waterfall feature...

Smidge001 · 06/01/2021 23:53

Loved this house in the end! He matched the colour of the stonework beautifully. And the interior was beautifully done (I was quite surprised as I thought it would end up really blingy!) Shame they skipped a lot of the construction - maybe because of covid?
Agree with pps, DH and I both thought he was about to introduce a new dog Grin.
Girlfriend seemed a bit new... Not entirely convinced of that match tbh. Confused
Bloke seemed really quite lovely, despite being properly bonkers. Amazing family background though, and it was nice to feel as though he's going to actually stay in the house, not just sell it off, which is a positive to having landed gentry folk. They do actually care about the land and history and preservation. (originally I never thought he'd ever get his money back, but in fact I think it will appeal to a lot of wealthy people. That wine cellar was amazing!)

Smidge001 · 06/01/2021 23:56

Oh, and I really hope he ends up getting his gate into the cemetery. What harm would it do anyone?! Nicer than having a derelict public toilet there.
