Thurs at 9 Richard returns
Can we figure out how they are going to pull this off given that he had an ice pick in his chest when we last saw himGrin
My guess. It was stated and he has been undercover for the last 3/4 years or however long it has been

Really enjoyed the two episodes.

We thought Aidan was the dad also.

Dh thought housekeeper was the killer as she was the best known star.

Quite like the outburst from the gardener-son at the end - kinda felt a little sorry for him then as his dad had been killed (although obviously he’s now guilty of murder also).

Good episodes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/02/2021 22:13

Am I the only one who didn’t think these 2 episodes as plots were that good

Avoided thread till now

Lovely to see Camille back. She looks the same

The beach scene with Richard was weird

Abs Katherine in wrong place at wrong time but how they for Camille back

ImAncient · 06/02/2021 22:54

So is Camille here to stay do we think? I loved Richard & Camille on the beach. So comfortable like an old married couple.

Embroideredstars · 06/02/2021 23:33

We've only recently discovered this show and plan on watching back wards.

Was there really a suggestion of romance between the police chief and Camille? Shock I thought he was going to turn out to be her dad! Grin

It’s very sweet watching Camille and Richards friendship develop, but you must start at season one and work through. You can’t go backwards haha
PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/02/2021 23:51

Do you mean the Commissioner (Dom Warrington?). No love interest there, don't worry. Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 06/02/2021 23:56

Sorry, Don Warrington.

Cherryberrypies · 06/02/2021 23:57

Oh I assumed they meant Richard. Yes definitely not the commissioner Grin

Standrewsschool · 07/02/2021 07:38

If you love Death in Paradise, and want another cozy murder series, try ‘Shakespeare and Hathaway’. It has a similar lever of murder and comedy.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/02/2021 07:46

No we meet Camilles dad in an episode

Embroideredstars · 07/02/2021 09:59

Oh right, whose Humphrey then? I thought the commissioner looked like a Humphrey Wink

Embroideredstars · 07/02/2021 10:04

Thanks @Standrewsschool would it be suitable for kids?

My two 10 & 12 nearly got in to this one and we're letting them watch it as it's a bit of family time these days, we dont agree on anything else much at the moment!

I started watching just for the scenery! But it reminds me of a more up to date Poirot/marple which I loved when I was their age Smile

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/02/2021 10:09

The Commisioner is called Selwyn Patterson.

There have been four English DIs — Richard Poole, Humphrey Goodman, Jack Mooney and Neville Parker. (And Moaning Myrtle for one episode.)

Go and watch it from the beginning though, you'll enjoy it! And it's better if we haven't told you what's going to happen.

(And yes to Shakespeare and Hathaway being good. Although somebody on here pointed out that it must be fairly low budget because the same props appear in every episode, and I couldn't stop looking out for a green glass desk lamp after that!)

Yes, I think it would be fine. The programme usually airs around 1pm-ish, so midday, not post-watershed.

rating

Just tried looking for an age-rating, and On IMDB and on dvds, it gives it a rating of 12. However, Eastenders would be more dodgy to watch.

😂😂
Just watch it from the beginning.
Its on Netflix,it's s going to make more sense than throwing random questions out!😅

theliverpoolone · 07/02/2021 12:34

I can't watch Not Going Out without only being able to see Lee's wife as Humphrey's girlfriend Grin.

I wish they'd at least write in an update or two eg when Florence was dispatched to London, she could have said she'd caught up with Humphrey, or Jack, and had news about them. Once they go, no-one ever refers to them again. Even Catherine never once mentioned Camille between her leaving, and now Hmm

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 07/02/2021 12:43

Never mind London, with Camille, Madeleine and Ruby all there, there's enough for a French spin-off — Death in P a r a d i s e. Grin

Embroideredstars · 07/02/2021 12:46

We are planning on watching them all but theres a lot to get through! Of course the commissioner was Selwyn, I was tired last night I still think he looks like a Humphrey though Wink

tofuschnitzel · 07/02/2021 12:56

@SoupDragon

Ruby wore a uniform, as did Florence before she was promoted to detective.

I suspect things in the Caribbean are somewhat different to, say, the
U.K. IME it's less formal anyway.

Oh come off it, you can't seriously argue that short shorts and a vest top is acceptable work attire for a Sergeant in the Caribbean because they are "less formal" there! I, and other posters, have specifically said that Florence's outfits are revealing and unsuitable for a Sergeant to wear at work, Ruby wearing a uniform has no bearing on that. And actually, if they can get it right by having another woman in uniform, then why is it so hard for them to get it right with Florence by at least putting her in smart casual clothing? Like I said before, representation matters. It may not matter to you, and that's fine, but it still matters to other people. I enjoy the programme, I just wish they would sort Florence's wardrobe out.
ChoccyJules · 07/02/2021 13:54

It has always annoyed me that they have stuck rigidly to the formula of white male DI, scantily clad female D.S. and two black lower ranking officers. Fine for the initial setup, maybe, but ten years on?

grandmasterstitch · 07/02/2021 14:21

@Embroideredstars once you see who Humphrey is, you won't think the commissioner looks like a Humphrey Grin
I really wanted to call our baby Humphrey but perhaps luckily for her she's a girl 😂

mogtheexcellent · 07/02/2021 16:32

I have recently been rewatching the 1st series and in the 1st episode there is no plain clothed sidekick. Lily who I suppose was nearly one wore a uniform, the same as fidel and dwayne.

I don't mind the casual clothes so much.

Thought some people might enjoy this with Richard and Neville

Graphista · 09/02/2021 17:52

How he got the top job is a mystery in itself

Nah! He's always been portrayed as more of a "politician" than a "copper" - knows the island and who to charm. Which is not to remotely say I don't LOVE him!

@feellikezerobucks I'm just watching 2nd episode of Mallorca files now, I know I'm very late to the party on that one. Until I googled the "German" detectives accent was really bugging me! Now I know it's cos he's Austrian not German but still liking him as an actor

I too really thought it would turn out the son was Aidan's and not pasha's

Personally I felt the connection between Camille and Richard felt more real than Humphrey and Camille. Humphrey it felt it was one sided on his side whereas Camille via the respect she had for Richard if Ben had stayed I think they could have made a good couple a few more seasons in. Not sure everyone will agree about that.

Iirc there was an episode where Catherine had set Camille up on a blind date and when Camille arrived she saw Richard sitting alone in Catherine's bar and Camille thought he was the blind date and...clearly wasn't put off by the idea! But it wasn't Richard he was there for another reason.

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams I remember that geology/storm episode too

I would have LOVED for them to get together.

as it was 20 years ago, and he only arrived about ten years ago

The 10th anniversary will be October this year (thanks IMDb) hoping they do something good for the anniversary and that this wasn't it!

I think Ben miller has said that working on dip didn't help his first marriage?

@ariela maybe an island police anniversary of some kind could be invented to bring back Humphrey and jack plus wives/partners and jacks daughter? That would be lovely

I was thinking rather uncharitably how much Niamh had aged until the flashback to 20 years earlier proved they'd aged her with make up so she could be 20 years younger for that

I think the storyline with Humphrey is to make up for the lost love story with Richard but it felt more forced and not as natural as the connection between Richard and Camille I agree

No we meet Camilles dad in an episode

The actor who played her dad has led a FASCINATING life I'd absolutely watch that biopic if anyone made it.

Very good! We could pitch the idea as DIP meets 'Spiral'.
