Here's a thread if anyone else has made one let me know and I'll get this cancelled!

I love Stephen Mangan but did anyone think he looked a bit drunk on Extra Slice? 😀
He was all unshaven and gorgeous but did keep talking over Emma Bunton...

Fizbosshoes · 28/11/2020 13:13

They can do another one can't they? The hunt for an unknown recipe is daft IMO. The Horn of Plenty was bonkers, I'd never heard or seen one, it seemed a ridiculous thing.

I've got no idea why, but I was sure a horn of plenty was a sort of croissant in a horn shape filled with cream. And it seemed feasible since it was patisserie week. I've never seen anything like what they actually made!

Actually now I'm remembering a horn of plenty dessert at the beefeater in the 1980s which was essentially loads of icecream!!Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/11/2020 14:24

I've got no idea why, but I was sure a horn of plenty was a sort of croissant in a horn shape filled with cream. I remember those, not all that fruit though, except maybe a glacé cherry.

Saucery · 28/11/2020 14:32

That’s how I remembered a Horn Of Plenty too, the croissant type pastry with cream and jam. There was also a flat version, like a big sea shell.

wowfudge · 28/11/2020 14:36

You're thinking of cream horns. They're puff pastry with jam and cream filling and not yeast leavened like croissants. The horn of plenty they were asked to make this series is a Danish celebration cake. The Danish cake is almond based.

CaptainMyCaptain · 28/11/2020 15:23

You're right, they were cream horns.

Ellmau · 28/11/2020 19:23

The final made me cry a little. (In a good way.)

WheresThatCatGoneNow · 29/11/2020 10:04

David's surprise marriage proposal on Extra Slice was rather sweet, I thought.

I was wondering why he looked a bit nervous and emotional during his interview. That must have been why!

CaptainMyCaptain · 29/11/2020 10:29

Yes, he did look nervous. That is probably why.

SanFranBear · 29/11/2020 11:12

Nice story about Laura in the Birmingham Times and thought this bit was lovely:

Laura, with her messy worktops, baking disasters and inability to stop swearing, won hearts, though. She also won her own treasured title from judge Prue Leith. 'She signed my book afterwards, and wrote in it: 'To Laura, Winner on Flavour'.

I think that goes to show what we were saying on here - they may not have looked great, but she always got her flavours right and deserved to be on the Final.

IntermittentParps · 30/11/2020 12:31

That's nice of Prue.

ChessieFL · 30/11/2020 13:31

There’s a Best Bits programme on tomorrow night.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 30/11/2020 18:59

Ooh that looks good Chessie!

MaggieFS · 01/12/2020 07:44

I watched extra slice last night. Golly, Tom Allen really does annoy me. He did, and then I read some comments on here and tried to be open minded, but it didn't work. I'm so disappointed if he is doing the Christmas special.

When do they film the special? I would have thought just after the main series while they still have the tent up, and staff and equipment there? Why couldn't Noel stay on? How would the bubble work?

SimonJT · 01/12/2020 07:57

Why couldn't Noel stay on?

Hes on paternity leave.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 01/12/2020 20:03

Anyone watching the Best Bits?

lettingthedaysgoby · 01/12/2020 20:06

@GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat

Anyone watching the Best Bits?
Watching here...
lettingthedaysgoby · 01/12/2020 20:11

Ahhh, lovely Kim-Joy

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 01/12/2020 20:16

I'd kind of forgotten Kim Joy!

I still need to catch up last year's series.

ChessieFL · 01/12/2020 20:16

I’m watching. Lots of faces I recognise although can’t remember all the names!

lettingthedaysgoby · 01/12/2020 20:20

Ah, Yan - lives round the corner from me, often see her walking past my house...

theliverpoolone · 01/12/2020 20:21

Some of these bakes are amazing. No one this year was as good as Kim Joy, and she wasn't even the winner! (Rahul was her year).

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 01/12/2020 20:25

Omg Ian's kitchen at home! Chaos!!

This is much better than the Strictly look-back programmes.

Bittersweet to see Luis Sad

I'd forgotten Yan - cool that you see her around!

lettingthedaysgoby · 01/12/2020 20:25

I'm now convinced the bakers have got less inventive... the gear pie is stunning, and I remember Ian and his amazing machine bakes

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 01/12/2020 20:32

Definitely! Ian's well was great but wasn't it essentially chocolate (melted and set in moulds) and not baking? I wonder what the brief was - guessing it was one of those construction challenges with a requirement to display X elements.

I'd forgotten about Ruby. Was she in Rahul's year? Did she reach the final? I remember some ridiculous outdoor pitta bread cooking challenge over an open fire thing!
