Paul seemed particularly specialising in being a knob head in tonight's episode.

Seconded!

I like all of them except Laura (i haben't forgiven her for the "hobnobs are too posh" comment).

But my word, I wishLottie would fasten her hair back. Paul is practially dribbling on her, but she keeps giving him "eff off" side-eyes that the interprets as a come on, I think. I'd like to see their interactions without the editing.

Sorry to lose Linda but it was the right decision.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 21/10/2020 13:43

*he interprets, not the interprets - sorry

MaggieFS · 21/10/2020 15:36

I'm surprised to find Lottie's hair doesn't bother me at all. Despite having already seen the comments on here, I still haven't even noticed it!

I felt that that the way the showstopper was billed and filmed was completely disjointed from the judging/ comments. While they were baking it was all about the random and unnecessary cages and then when judging they just lifted them out of the way and barely gave them a mention, apart from Mark who seemed to get disproportionally slated.

CeibaTree · 21/10/2020 16:05

@lettingthedaysgoby

I like Matt & Noel, but they are a bit too similar - Mel & Sue and Noel & Sandi were both whacky/dry pairings. We've now got whacky/whacky and while they are both nice, and funny, it's like too much royal icing...
I thought Mel and Sue were both quite wacky - which do you think was the dry one and which was the wacky one? :)
Al1langdownthecleghole · 21/10/2020 17:49

Why does Lotties hair seem to annoy some of you more than Mark running his hands through his? That’s proper boak imo.

CassandrasCastle · 21/10/2020 18:40

Lottie's hair doesn't bother me at all Confused

Starksforthewin · 22/10/2020 01:33

I am annoyed by both Mark and Lottie in respect of hair! 👨‍🦱

I don’t think Lottie touches hers as much as Mark touches his. Last night there was a particular shot of him doing a good ruffle of his hair then back to touching the food. I felt sick.
Lottie is doing that Meghan Markle thing of wispy strands surrounding her face (doesn’t look as good as either of them think!) and is in more danger of hair falling into the food unnoticed.

I don’t think I’ve ever typed ‘hair’ so much in one post.

I also thought Delfine should have been Star Baker. I find Laura rather vulgar. In one of the first episodes she said something was “coming out of her arse” and I was amazed that wasn’t edited out.

Peter is my favourite. I love his precision and commitment and knowledge.

Starksforthewin · 22/10/2020 01:34

Not ‘Delfine’

Hermine!

Autocorrect excelled itself there.

Anyway, I think she is fab and very talented.

AngelaScandal · 22/10/2020 05:15

I don’t like Peter and I don’t know why. He is utterly sweet and inoffensive.

I’m rooting for Irish Mark and his ‘purrs’

Hermine is excellent and under appreciated by the judges .

Japanese week. WTAF.

CherryValanc · 22/10/2020 06:19

I'm another who doesn't like Peter. I think its it's because he would fit very easily into the role of the son up in the "big house" back in Victorian times.

If he was an actor he would be perfect for the role of Colin in The Secret Garden. I've never liked the character Colin.as a child, so my not liking Petee may come from that!)

Not sure about Japanese week. There's not much in the way of baked goods I'm mad about with Japanese food.

Reminded me of a previous Baker who was mad about using matcha. Can't recall her name - she made a bake that was Terry Pratchett themed and no one else seemed to realise it was.

CherryValanc · 22/10/2020 06:24
  • when she made space turtles. Forgot that fact!! She made space turtles to put around her bake of a planet. Got asked something like where she got the idea from or why space turtles and she replied she didn't know. I remember thinking "erm, Discworld?" at the time.
ChessieFL · 22/10/2020 07:12

That was Kim Joy.

ppeatfruit · 22/10/2020 08:50

Oh yes Kim Joy I'd totally forgotten her she was quite wacky!

I too don't care a fig for Lotttie's hair, I'm not going to eat her offerings.

Peter does have an old fashioned look about him.

Dave doesn't appeal.

I'd love Hermine to win

MsMiaWallace · 22/10/2020 08:59

Love that Peter is sooo Colin from the secret garden!

Please don't shoot me down but is Peter transgender?

WhatWillSantaBring · 22/10/2020 09:14

So, don't know if anyone noticed, but Paul Hollywood's babka recipe has been removed from the GBBO website. Any idea why that might be? Did he breach copyright???? Grin

Luckily wrote it down in my book before they removed it, because it was delish!

I have long hair, but when I'm cooking, I always wear a headscarf to stop it falling in the food, so I can't understand how Lottie can bare to cook with it down.

I'm so bad with names - which one is Peter? The really young one (who was 10 when GBBO started)? He has very unusually red lips. Men with plump lips really annoy me (cos I'm jealous).

SkepticalCat · 22/10/2020 12:01

I really like Hermine as well. As someone else said, she seems to be under-rated by the judges. At least twice she has made her own version of something and not messed up - her brioche-like enriched dough and pastry last night.

She also seems to do flavours well. Hermine to win!

CherryValanc · 22/10/2020 16:29

@MsMiaWallace

He might even look like the actor who played him in the 90s film (it better not be the from the 80s or I'll cry). Don't think he's transgender. Fairly sure if he was the tabloids would have made a big deal of it.

Think Hermine is my favourite too. She's not messed up too much has she?

IntermittentParps · 22/10/2020 16:29

SkepticalCat, I agree about Hermine being underrated. Maybe her day will come!

I don't like Peter. He looks weirdly young and I think he's a bit try-hard.

I'm really liking Dave, although I think I'm in the minority here. I like how he visibly CBA with most of the 'jokes'. He uses mango a bit too much though. Irish Mark is nice and I'd LOVE to try the pear and ginger tart he made. The cage really wasn't that bad, certainly compared with the farcical one of Linda's – how on earth did she think it would hold its shape when it wasn't even criss-crossed?

Lottie makes me laugh. Other Marc is sweet but a bit too sensitive for the show, perhaps. I don't mind Linda going – if you can't do choux (after three goes!) you don't belong in the tent IMO.

Don't mind Laura apart from the HobNobs comment.

Re Mel and Sue, yes, Sue seems to have reinvented herself as a semi-comedy travel journalist and is very good at it. Mel doesn't seem to be doing quite as well; she had (may still have) a podcast about knitting or something, with some 'comedian' bloke I've never heard of, and that's all I've seen of her for ages. Pity; she's very good and I love them as a pair.

Al1langdownthecleghole · 22/10/2020 19:09

Those rooting for Hermine could be on to something.

The winner often slips quietly through the first few weeks, or at least the editing doesn't focus on them too much.

It's like the inverse of a whodunnit where the murderer is always the most famous actor.

dementedma · 22/10/2020 20:22

Kim Joy made some amazing creations. I wasn’t a huge fan but I don’t think anyone could complain about her creativity in producing truly intricate art work

Momniscient · 23/10/2020 11:25

There's a Babka recipe in one of the original Bake Off recipe books! Maybe that's why it's been taken off PH's site.

By sheer luck this week I decided to finally get around to making some lemon tarts. No way am I making buns next week though! Wondering what next week's "tricky recipe involving multiple layers” technical challenge refers to. Baumkuchen? I'm sure that's been done before (but then, so has Battenburg, so...)

I like Lottie, not sure about Peter. He seems very young, despite being 20. I know plenty of decently adult 20 year olds. He seems ok, though. Shame Linda went, but that's how it goes some weeks.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/10/2020 12:30

Thru didn't even eat the pastry from the cages!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/10/2020 14:20

I thought that was shameful too, Toddler - I hope they putt outside for the birds!

Fizbosshoes · 23/10/2020 18:34

It always offends me and DD that Paul always cuts a really mahoosive slice out of any cake or pie, (and he completely destroyed one of the cages this week, I think?) and then they eat a mouthful each. I was also surprised they didn't taste any of the cage pastry, as they are always banging on about how stuff has to taste good as well as look good although the cage was quite pointless

I always wonder what happens to the rest although Paul often does a lot of prodding, poking, and squidging to some of the cakes/breads which would be very off putting

ageingdisgracefully · 23/10/2020 20:15

Extra Slice is tedious tonight. Who are these "comedians"? Never heard of any of 'emGrin.
