Sad to see Hermine go, she was my favourite. Seems as though past performance and ranking in the technical doesn't matter if you flub the showstopper.

Hoping Peter can wipe the floor with Dave.

ILoveYou3000 · 18/11/2020 10:23

@ppeatfruit Luis was a finalist in season 5. He was a very creative, artistic baker. Also a very nice man by all accounts. He was lovely on the show.

Carriemac · 18/11/2020 10:39

Laura makes food that tastes good and is a nice person. Hermine also lovely but she had a terrible day and deserved to go.
She deserved to stay. I love how Dave has relaxed and grown in confidence .

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2020 10:47

Thank you ILove. I'm trying to remember him.

Fizbosshoes · 18/11/2020 11:47

We were really rooting for Laura but was amazed it was Hermine who went last night. I think Laura comes across well and I think her cakes normally taste nice (from the judges comments) , but literally every clip of the next week is her dropping something, or one of her creations collapsing! She did say she was very clumsy but I almost think it's unfair to put her against Peter and Dave in the final because they are so neat and precise.

HotSince63 · 18/11/2020 11:51

Hermine must be quietly seething, I'm pretty annoyed on her behalf Grin.

Laura bakes like a slob, she's so slapdash (or as she prefers to call it, clumsy), her workstation is a total mess and a lot of her bakes look like a dogs dinner, there's no way she deserved a place in the final over Hermine.

SkepticalCat · 18/11/2020 12:45

Just caught up... oh no Hermine 😢 She had a nightmare of a week, but I was hoping she'd done enough to scrape into the final.

With the rum babas, it seems that she re-made them as her first batch over-proved because of the heat, but the next lot was under-proved.

Mydogisagentleman · 18/11/2020 14:06

Poor Hermine, I had hoped for a Laura hermine and Peter final.
I’m torn now, I really like Laura but I think Peter will win.
Never thought I’d say it, but I’ve really warmed to Dave

Fizbosshoes · 18/11/2020 14:08

Yeah we changed our minds about Dave (and after someone mentioned on here, look out for his shoulder wiggle!)

IntermittentParps · 18/11/2020 14:44

I heart his shoulder wiggle.

On last night's bakes Laura definitely does deserve a place in the final over Hermine.

Hermine's rum babas may have looked good but the judges said they did not taste that good. Her show stopper looked awful and, again, the judges said they did not taste good.

Yes Laura is messy but that is no reason for so many to dislike her so much. Her babas looked good and, according to the judges, tasted good. Her show stopper did not look good although it looked better than Hermine's but, again, the judges said they tasted really good.

Hermine messed up which was a shame but it is what it is. I think she kind of jinxed herself by saying it would be her week etc and then just not be very good with those bakes

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/11/2020 15:26

Someone said a page or so back that Laura was arrogant as she knew she didn't have to clean up her mess. On last nights programme she was scraping the mirror glaze off the counter to clean it up. I think they do clean down their workstations as there are many shots of them doing so.
I didn't want Hermine to go, but she did mess up and admitted she had changed her final bake and didn't actually know the recipe. It didn't work. I wonder if things might have been different if she'd used her first batch or babas?
I think it's time bake off had a better way of making their decision for who goes and maybe as the weeks go on, to not penalise someone for making a mistake that week. Maybe the first week should be a free for all based on a theme, but everyone made what they feel they do best, be it pastry, bread, patisserie etc?

iklboogeymum · 18/11/2020 16:46

It's almost like they put Laura in the final as 'good telly' but Hermine definitely messed up and snot herself in the foot last night by changing her recipe the day before with no practice.

HotSince63 · 18/11/2020 16:48

Laura had to make an attempt to tidy up after herself last night, her mirror glaze was literally dripping off the counter, she scraped it into a receptacle which she then left on the worktop.

And when she was whining to Matt about the technical she wiped her face, ran her fingers through her hair, wiped her nose (all with her hands, not a tissue) and then continued to try and piece together her cornucopia without even washing her hands Envy

CherryValanc · 18/11/2020 16:57

But are they judged and eliminated based on performance in the show stopper only, or performance across that one show, or performance across the whole series so far, because the judges seem to change their minds about that depending on who is in the bottom two.

Yes it's not consistent is it. Considering Laura's Cone of Pelenty was actually a Cone of Shame.

murmurgam · 18/11/2020 19:32

Yes, surprised to see Laura stay. Her technical was awful whilst Hermine came second. I think they were fairly even across all 3 challenges yesterday so past performance should come into play and then there's no contest.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/11/2020 20:07

Laura was crap. How on Earth did she stay in?!

EnglishRose1320 · 18/11/2020 20:08

@murmurgam that's exactly what my ds and I said. It was so even last night, and previously when it's been that close they have looked at previous weeks and Hermine should definitely have got it on those grounds.

Although I will admit neither of us have warmed to Laura so maybe we are a bit biased.

MaggieFS · 18/11/2020 20:19

I think though that they have been consistent that taste trumps appearance.

ILoveYou3000 · 18/11/2020 20:19

Laura was crap. How on Earth did she stay in?!

Her bakes tastes good. Hermine's didn't.

Paul posted this on his Instagram. I think it's awful Laura is being trolled to the point statements are having to be made about it. Feels in total opposition of the spirit of the Bake Off.

Has this series been one of the best? No. But it's been comforting and familiar, and a nice escape each week from the crap we're all living through. Seems a real shame it's ending on such a sour note.

@RainingBatsAndFrogs

Why do they set it in a tent, in summer? So many things made difficult by the heat. Even this week Paul and Pru excused Laura’s liquid mirror glaze due to the heat. ( But it wasn’t the heat). Abd then give them tiny domestic freezers,

It’s just so... twee cupcake and bunting crap, more style over substance.

And as for those two brainless stooges, I would be screeching at their unfunny interruptions if I was working hard on a task.

Yes, brainless, crass, stooges. Poor Hermine couldn’t understand half the “jokes”, but when she did, she was quite clearly offended.
IHaveBrilloHair · 18/11/2020 20:26

I was surprised too, I've just watched, been avoiding spoilers all day!
I'm not fussed really by who went really, but that's because I'm a big fan of Peter and was impressed with him pulling it back like that.
I'd have loved his Signature as I can't stand alcohol in desserts and I adore elderflower so that was right up my street.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/11/2020 20:46

I've just watched it as I forgot yesterday.

(FORGOT! I couldn't believe it - I live for this and Strictly at the moment!!!!!!)

It broke my heart to lose Hermine - I really wanted her to win.

I don't like Laura - I just can't warm to her - she irritates the heck out of me.

I am finding Peter a bit of a pain, and am really warming to Dave - I didn't much like him before, but now he's my favourite.

I have found Noel and Matt increasingly irritating - especially Noel who has shown a crude streak which I find appalling - a lot of children watch these programmes and we can do without the innuendo (and downright vulgarity sometimes).

However, I do agree that no-one should be trolling contestants. It isn't Laura's fault the judges picked her over Hermine - (but they shouldn't have!)

augustusglupe · 18/11/2020 20:52

ILoveYou3000 Yes
The whole spirit of bake off has been ruined by some fools getting in a tis because their favourite has gone. How old are they? I feel so sorry for Laura.
I see #BeKind lasted all of 2 minutes Sad
