no she put the brandy in the pan to deglase then poured over chicken.

If you give me half an hour (need to put 6 week dd2 to sleep & lose a snotty 3 year old) i find the recipe for your.

The chicken didnt look raw on my telly - colour balance maybe?

I did worry about the puy lentils soaked in choicken fat though. And that ones not in the book cos Ive got it.

Brandied-Bacony Chicken

2 rasher streky Bacon
1.25kg Chicken
60ml Brandy

  1. Preheat oven 220c/Gas mark 7

  2. In a small frying pan cook bacon over a medium heat until its crisp and the pan is full of lovey bacony fat, about 4 minutes.

  3. Take the pan off the heat, then remove the bacon and put straight into the cavity of the chicken, sitting the chicken breast side up, in a roasting tin as you do so.

  4. Pour the brandy into the still hot pan and let it bubble for a minute with the bacon fat.

  5. Pour the brandy mixture over the chicken, place in the hot oven and roast until cooked.

She said 45min but hers didn't looked cooked .

What I find most impressive about those programs is to see that her larder is about the size of a double bedroom. With lights under the shelves
The day she was going to her local bakery on the way back from the school run... her local baker is Poilane
And every time I tried to cook one of her recipes it did not work (I am an experienced cook!).
She does look fab, though...

Do I just have a dirty mind, or did anyone else snigger at 'golden dressing'?

NaeDanger · 25/10/2007 14:29

it's that slightly mad look she gives the camera every once in a while that i think is hilarious. and hte fact that she has become a parody of herself.
all i can think about when she's on is that Ronni Ancona sketch where she gives the kids mars bars!

still want the book though. and will V+ the series!!

I also quite like the fact that she isn't one of those cooks that is stick thin but makes good food. she eats like I do. (which might explain my current shape. note to self: but more cardis!)

willow · 19/11/2007 20:57

What is she on - apart from oodles of cash and, I suspect from her constant come hitheriness, ecstasy? Have just witnessed her empty a jar of red cabbage on to a plate - express cooking indeed. This isn't cookery. It's comedy. Bloody funny though.

Bluestocking · 19/11/2007 20:59

Did you see what went into that icecream cake? It's no wonder she's got an arse the size of Neptune.
I'm dying to see who her rent-a-friends are this evening - I'm sure that wretched Charley Boorman is going to turn up eventually.

willow · 19/11/2007 22:08

It is clear that she has been eating rather too much of her own food. I like whipped cream, sugar, cake, booze and passion fruit as much as the next woman - but when she ate that entire spoonful of butterscotch sauce from the fridge I actually felt a little bit queasy.

PuppyDogEyes · 20/11/2007 02:30

I'm glad i'm not the only one watching this thinking WTF???

I, like Piffle, thought this was Ronnie Ancona going too far! Told DH not to take it seriously as it prob an impression show!

You've got me started now...
No one could eat regularly like this, you would be so Fat! Cream, butter, mountains of sugar!
If I fed my friends like that they would eat me out of house and home!
And the friends and family scenes are so cringe-worthily fake. Not to mention the brown nosing of a fake boss with chocolate croissants. And the lapping up of her 'friends' compliments! (very modest!)
Why does she walk about town and shops day dreaming into clouds, smirking to herself?
Is it me, or does her head bobble when she walks around?
Who randomly has that stuff in their fridge, or pantry! ...pantry...!
Just by dividing up the prep time during the day doesn't make the recipe express.
You know that ice cream cake was quick, but a tub of Haagen Daaz is quicker and i think less sickly sweet.
That Tangine was not express!! and after two days in my fridge, it would all be gone!
Everything is extremely express if you don't have to wash up after yourself.

Hey, maybe i'll wake up in the morn, pull back the curtains and think, mmm must make 3 types of bruschetta for brekkie!! Rather than a bowl of cereal.
Obviously i have the wrong sort of lifestyle!!

She just comes off like she's from another planet trying to imagine what its like being a busy working parent. I used to really like her, but rather than homely she's coming off really irritating and smug.

But you know, i'll still watch it next week, just to point, stare and say WTF!

Rant over.

CripleH · 20/11/2007 13:44

When I watch it I'm caught between trying to work out how she can make a cookery show sound like porn and switching off.

She annoys me greatly by trying to be 'just another Mum working away with a busy lifestyle' when she so isn't. A much better show for dealing with the average reality would surely be a bloke standing in the middle of a council estate.

"Now, we have to go off down the road to Spar to get some butter and milk".

meglet · 20/11/2007 18:59

I love Nigella but her pantry is bigger than my kitchen.

meglet · 20/11/2007 19:00

meant to add

And she gets up at 8 o'clock

charliegal · 20/11/2007 19:02

It's actually bigger than my flat

meglet · 20/11/2007 19:07

LOL (assuming you are semi-joking!}

RoxyNotFoxy · 25/11/2007 17:27

Her pantry's pretty big, but at least it isn't getting any bigger. Unlike her pants.
