Just a reminder that this fab programme is back

That people who spend £100’s a week amazingly reduce their shopping bill 😂😂

Assuming new series. Hope it is

Greg and Chris help a mum And her two boys Ditch the micro meals

What fabulous meals will they cook

What will they swap

And will they have the usual - I don’t like that - and it’s their usual brand 😂😂😂😂

They always mess around with this programme. Every series. No idea why

Stinkyguineapig · 25/09/2020 00:03

Gregg Wallace is known as Egg Wallace in our house and we all hate the way he shouts for no apparent reason about everything. I'm surprised John Torode doesnt need ear defenders on masterchef.
Egg also turned up on a bbc series a few months ago called inside the factory. I dont know if it was scripted but he seemed obliged to say (shout) "WOW!" ....after anyone in the factory gave an explanation of how/why something worked, even if it wasnt remotely exciting or wow-worthy.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 25/09/2020 09:23

Slightly off topic but there's a Masterchef Horrible Histories and the Greg chap shouts all the way through, it's very funny Smile

KatherineJaneway · 28/09/2020 14:20

@Heptember

They've got a bloody nerve criticising them for shopping at different stores. For years they've been recommending Asda Hot Choc, Aldi bread, Sainsburys teabags etc
I always assume they had to do that as it's the BBC. They cannot be seen to promote one supermarket over another.
Blondeshavemorefun · 28/09/2020 19:02

Yes I assumed they did that as had to support all supermarkets

Like on tv they won’t advertise Heinz beans or ph tips etx on a programme

OP posts:
happilybemused · 29/09/2020 04:11

The BBC are missing a trick I tell you. Just put a few ...this programme contains product placement #ad #spon #afil and they could make a fortune 👍

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2020 19:15

Catching up on this

episode 1

SO annoying it's not treated with the respect it deserves by the schedulers.

Also disappointed there's no dietician or nutritionist

The family in ep1 are SO lovely my heart was breaking for her, she must have it so tough with both her lads having disabilities and I'm not surprised she slid into using ready meals etc she must be knackered!

Loving that she has such an amazing positive attitude and she's done a fantastic job raising her boys to be the same.

I REALLY hope someone on the production team found her info on holidays for her and her boys, they do exist but limited availability.

Love that they're showing you can make healthier meals in the micro too. I don't have a micro at the moment but when I have had one I've used it for healthy stuff as well as the more common beans and ready meals.

I'm not really a fan of ready meals because as a veggie I find veggie ones are really really bland!

Hot choc I like options, I've tried others and not liked them at all, the galaxy one is very chemical tasting really bad to the point I chucked it!

Slow cookers are ace! As a single mum myself when I was still working I loved just chucking in protein, veg and a sauce or stock maybe herbs/spices and switch on and come in to a meal ready to serve!

I wish they would do a follow up after a year to see how many things still stick.

I would love this

Shown as 90 min Xmas special ?

Supermarket eco stuff drives me nuts! So glad to see the compostable bags, when deliveries went bag free I asked about this and the 3 supermarkets I spoke to were clueless!

Then the hypocrisy of taking bags away from us while wrapping individual items in WAY too much and WORSE plastic is ridiculous! Plus certain items last longer when NOT wrapped in plastic eg mushrooms in a paper bag or cardboard carton last ages. I used to have a reusable fabric bag for them but I've lost it - must replace it! But I'd still be receiving my mushrooms in bloody plastic cartons!

With this episode I personally would have loved to know, as a fatty myself, whether holly lost weight and if she felt better energy wise

And I can't even see episode 2 as it's not available!

What is that about?!

If anyone can post a link to enable me to watch I'd be grateful I can't find anything.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/10/2020 09:15

How annoying @Graphista they have taken e2 off

They repeated 7.2 this morning on Bbc2.

On I player click on the TV Guide, choose BbC2, go to 8am and you can watch it.

Not sure how long for.

Graphista · 21/10/2020 15:28

Thank you! Watching now. Very annoying when they mess around with it, the show really doesn't get the respect it deserves

Graphista · 21/10/2020 17:41

episode 2

Shopping around can make sense and the production crew advocate it themselves if it genuinely saves money.

I'm housebound and reliant on deliveries at the moment which means it's easier to buy from one supermarket BUT when I'm not housebound I shop in different shops for different items and it does save me money. I occasionally shop from a different place if there's something specific I want I can't get from usual place.

But I know (keep a memo on my phone) the prices in each shop so I KNOW if it's really cheaper or not.

Eg

Frozen - Iceland are generally cheaper and have more choice

Greengrocers for fruit and veg - supermarkets undercut them initially but certainly for in season basics they're often cheaper and better quality

Aldi/lidl for basics available everywhere - dried pasta, tinned veg, some chilled products

"Ordinary" supermarket for whatever I can't get elsewhere or which is actually cheaper at that store at that time and I varied depending on offers at that time (I've noticed on branded products the offers tend to rotate around the big supermarkets, eg if marmite is on offer in Tesco and the offer period ends it's then usually started being on offer in ASDA or Morrisons) it's easy enough to check on this either through their own websites or there are apps you can check on.

Pound/bargain shops like b&m snd home bargains - for branded products they tend to be cheaper though you have to be careful they're not smaller package sizes, eg Heinz beans might SEEM cheap but the tin is 2/3 normal size. Certainly usually cheaper for non food items like fairy liquid, disinfectants etc

"Chemists" for toiletries and beauty products and sometimes "oddities" like air freshener tends to be cheaper in these places.
