We have been following Our Girl since 2014 and although there are to be no further series, we revisit time and time again to discuss. As an alternative, we are also watching the 1990s series of Soldier Soldier.

Boxing? Or knocking the living daylights out of each other? I think this is Briggsy's chance at getting back at Reece over his wife's attempts to sabotage their house.

Yawn, yawn, yawn...bet Briggsy smacks Reece one out of of anger.

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:32

Do you transfer into the Paras (a bit like joining Special Forces) or is it something you apply to do from the outset? Not for me either Rhu.

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:33

No idea on the paras - didn't Fingers want to join them and didn't make it?

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:37

Was it the paras or SF? Didn't Bones take him aside and say he was down for selection?

Briggsy packs his bags and goes home!

There's not much subtlety to the story with Jackie. She just started out a bit over the top and carried on without much build up or introduction.

I wonder who it is who is really attacking Debs house? Wonder if she owes a drugs dealer or something?

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:38

Will have to google the paras and see how it works.

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:40

Yep, drugs and alcohol that will get them through the worst trial of all.

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:40

Debs has to confess she got Briggsy home under false pretences. Is there no end to her lies? I think she has a lot to learn about army life!

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:43

Jackie comes out armed with a petrol can and deliberately keys Debs' car. This is not looking good.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:44

So, it does appear to be Jackie after all - would have preferred it to be a twist in the tale. She has keyed Deb's car and has a petrol can in her hand.

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:46

Debs is suspicious but fortunately the phone rings! Saved by the bell. Jackie gets in the driver's seat, pours petrol over herself and flicks the cigarette lighter! Boom!

Meanwhile the lads are on the final leg of the exercise - a stretcher race apparently.

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:47

All is not well at home whereas the men area charging about on manoevures elsewhere.

Blimey, that it is grim. Jackie has torched the car with herself in it.

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:48

Gosh, what a heartless individual the Colonel is. He's so dismissive of Jackie's suicide and how it must have affected Debs.

OP posts:
Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:48

The Colonel really is quite dislikeable. His wife must be so angry with him.

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:50

Brize Nor'hun - oh memories....

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:52

You are right Rhu that the houses look too nice to be army quarters. My next door neighbour's daughter was up at RAF Leuchars for about five years and their house was nothing like those (and they had two children too). Mind you, they did have some lovely views over the coast.

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 21:52

I don't think they handled that storyline very well. Not much to be learned apart from they were rubbish at dealing with mental health issues. There was another one in series 1 wasn't there?

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:54

Sorry you couldn't join us eejit. Better luck for next week.

I wonder where magi is? She's been very quiet of late.

This series was filmed in 1996 - it looks like a new housing estate that's just gone up, especially the roads look fairly new. The style of houses looks familiar too like one of the big builders.

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:55

What was the issue in series 1? My mind has gone blank.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:56

Yes, something like Barratt or Wimpey.

OP posts:
Ilovelblue · 17/11/2020 21:56

I'm off to google joining the paras now!

I'm sure there was a story in series 1 where a sergeant came back after military service somewhere which really affected him badly and ended up holding his wife hostage and then blowing himself up in a car? Will need to go back and check which it was.

Rhubarb01 · 17/11/2020 22:10

It was episode 5 called "Battlefields". The wife of someone called Freddy, was going to leave him for the norther Sgt with the moustache, but he ends up blowing himself up, I think. The suggestion was that he had PTSD and his wife was struggling to live with him. She was German, I think.
