I do believe Sean is dodgy as he has already lied in the first episode.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 06/08/2020 13:04

I’m also very baffled, especially the father and the little girl bit. They are all a bit odd and I feel we are in for a very hectic episode tonight.

The80sweregreat · 06/08/2020 13:48

Maybe the story of the little girl was just filler? Or Michael stole the story from his dad for his wife's book or something?
If he is a professor of English why doesn't he know Thomas Hardy ? It's not hard to look up on line is it? Maybe he isn't really a professor at all !
I bet the missing girls brother saves the day here!
(I would have gone back to Cambridge ASAP if I had been Ophelia instead of hanging around there! )

H HollowTalk

Good that somebodies laughing because these series is just about the worst think I've seen in ages.

Not sure who the main actor is but he is so gross looking how could anyone get involved with him. He looks like a half cooked suet pudding with a toilet brush stuck on his chin. Yuck! And the "plot" only works is the young women is meant to be so blinded by love she doesn't realise just how unlikely the situation is.

But in case you are interested, I get email alerts which take me to a thread. And as I hadn't seen any other thread and had started one assumed I was on that thread.

Sorry to be so logical!

mumsnet really needs a mechanism that stops duplicates threads as too often what could be an interesting discussion gets split between 2 or even 3 threads.

The80sweregreat · 06/08/2020 14:23

Stumbledin, Welcome to our thread here. I agree that often multiple threads start up on 'telly addicts ' and it can become a bit confusing if a few are all going at the same times.
This drama is a bit silly , but it's also drawn me in and I suppose it will let me let me down with a terrible ending! Smile

stumbledin · 06/08/2020 15:15

Well in fact I am saved from the embarrassment of having started a thread on this, as mine has now sunk out of sight - phew!

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/08/2020 16:50

Lol @stumbledin

I’ve done a thread before and another has popped up Confusing

Be good if we could delete them - without paying

Anyway finally have watched

Think I said somewhere I didn’t think wife was dead body

Body was burned and smelt of her perfume said mum - who doesn’t seem grieving mother bothered son in law is shagging about and made a girl preg

Assume ‘the ruin’ is the same story as the hardback book

Maybe he thinks wife is dead and it’s a a punishment for the affairs he had

Roll on tonight tho working again so will watch tom and avoid thread from 9pm

I thought the father's telling of the story of the little girl was one of the best bits. It felt more real than the rest of the programme!

dayswithaY · 06/08/2020 19:56

Mary (is that Roisin's Mum?) is far too welcoming of Ophelia and not grieving at all so I think she is behind the whole deception. Michael is also in on it as he seems very keen for Ophelia to drink the tea. For a Cambridge student she is thick as mince, get on a plane back to the UK and stop drinking the tea!

I'm thinking Mary killed Michael's Dad.

It's very enjoyable nonsense, but it's more suited to watching on a dark, cold night in November.

😨 just lost my whole post

Briefly

Mary is suspicious and is drugging Ophelia and Roisin.

The missing girl write the book Micheal is passing off as his own and comes to Knockdara to confront him. Roisin thinks Michael is having an affair with her and kills her. Fire is staged with missing girls body but as Sean is in on it, he identifies it as Roisin.

Michael will convince everyone Ophelia is paranoid due to pregnancy and will have her sectioned.. real reason is because she finds the rucksack and pieces it all together.

It's on now!!

MrsSiba · 06/08/2020 21:02

And the reason she is talking with her hands tied is because she is sectioned

dontcallmelen · 06/08/2020 21:03

I can’t hear a bloody word of it, the mumbling is driving me nuts & Ophelia is an ejjitt & I have no idea what’s going on, but having stuck with it for the the last three nights out sheer stubbornness am watching tonight.

godsowncountry · 06/08/2020 21:10

Holy shit.

Sparklingbrook · 06/08/2020 21:25

Yikes

MistyMinge2 · 06/08/2020 21:44

Slightly off topic, but I really love Ruth's bag. I wonder where it's from. 🤔

Talking of bags, wouldn't you just bung a canvas backpack into your wood burner, or have a little bonfire in the garden rather than all the choose a brick, drive to a car park by the sea palaver?
godsowncountry · 06/08/2020 21:59

Well... that's a far too twee ending for my liking.

viques · 06/08/2020 22:02

Unfulfilled promise. Shame, but on a positive note the settings were lovely.

Russell19 · 06/08/2020 22:06

Can someone explain that last 5 minutes to me? Why did Roisin have to be 'dead' still? Why didn't they just tell the police that she'd been locked away somewhere or something? Why did she have to cut her hand and run it all around the car boot?

The80sweregreat · 06/08/2020 22:14

Pretending she was still dead was stupid really! It was a rushed silly ending.
Still, there isn't much on tv just now so it made a change to watch something on every night and not bad acting, just a far fetched script!

happinessischocolate · 06/08/2020 22:20

Lol in the middle of the day too 😁 also if you're not going to just burn a bag and paper manuscript and are going to dispose of it in the water, surely you'd separate it all, not put all the evidence neatly together in the murdered girl's bag.

The idea behind the series is quite good, controlling guy manipulating his wife, girlfriend, mother in law and every other fucker despite having no charm whatsoever, but the writing was horrendous.

So in the beginning we saw her talking about it all to someone, but that never happened in the ending??

Clawdy · 06/08/2020 22:26

I'm OK with a "happy" ending, makes a bit of a change, but I don't see why Roisin had to carry on pretending to be dead. They could have said she was kept prisoner in the little summerhouse. Although I guess she might have crumbled under police questioning.

theliverpoolone · 06/08/2020 23:35

I don't get the ending at all; we saw the mum telling a reporter (?) that they'd pretended Annabelle was Roisin, and he'd locked Roisin up, so why were they still pretending she was dead? And the radio news report still said Roisin was dead, but didn't say anything about Annabelle Confused
