Does anyone remember the Food Knowledge round? I used to love that, a tray of unusual veg or herbs or fish etc and the contestants had to identify. Then John would cook a dish and the individual cooks would have to replicate it.

So many of the current tasks seem to add nothing to the selection process.
The stupid wall one. Every time they go to a workplace it’s the same few dishes, chilli/spaghetti bol/curry plus some indescribable veg muck which no one wants to eat. They focus more on the time pressure than the quality of the cooking.

I like when they just cook a dish, on their own, in the MC kitchen and it gets judged, either by John and his sidekick, or previous contestants, or a guest chef who sets a brief.

Glad that Dom went home. Sam’s food looked amazing. The raw duck could have quacked its way back to the river!

GrouchyKiwi · 11/07/2020 08:57

Yes Starks! That was one of the best rounds. And I heartily concur on the rest of your opinions above.

ellenanora5 · 11/07/2020 11:44

The best thing about last nights round was reading this thread this morning Grin you are all spot on.

Sam was very good she could go a long way.

I didn't enjoy this week all that much so hope next weeks is better.

Hi fourqs I'm well thanks.

Have a good weekend everyone Smile

I absolutely agree Starks. Loved the food knowledge round. Like the "showcase an ingredient" round too. Hate the wall one and I agree the "One Hundred Hungry People" round is always rushed and the same old stuff. Crumble, something spicy, something with peppers and tomatoes (mush).

The time pressure is just silly. And as for making Karen send out raw duck when she and they knew it was raw and the judges were never going to be able to eat it - what is the point of that?

Starksforthewin · 12/07/2020 06:43

Oh yes, CopperBeeches loved that ingredient showcase round. If they are all cooking the same, the viewers at home can more easily gauge who is doing it best.

There is something about these TV shows where a skill is involved. They keep adding ‘elements of peril’ as Disney would say.

We don’t care about the clock ticking down, we just want to see how the ‘skilful’ thing is done.
Bake Off, Sewing Bee and MC have all become infested with this over recent years.

I’m sure it’s come out of a production meeting full of hipsters, saying it’s too boring to watch people sew/cook , lets get them doing it while they balance a tea tray on their heads! 😀

That round must forever be known now as “100 Hungry People”!
You always get the big important executive saying how the world will end if the widget production is delayed....
