Anyone watching? The Sydney couple are never going to last. She’s so annoying, surely just on it to get on tv??

Have their ever been a couple from these shows that have stayed married?

OP posts:
Italiangreyhound · 17/07/2020 02:00

KurriKawari "Her and Sean are my second fave couple and hope they find a lifestyle compromise.' Who arr your favourite couple?

Honeyroar "I was watching tonight thinking Michelle and Anthony might have been a good match. They’re both very judgemental, materialistic and think they’re better than others.

I agree I think Anthony is an arse but with a very assertive wife he may be OK,.I think Michelle would have been better for him. And vice versa.

Italiangreyhound · 17/07/2020 02:26

Anthony and Nadia - he was such a twit at the clothes shop - of course her attention was on the clothes. But realistically who goes shopping for clothes with their husband. I am not sure my dh would cope after nearly 20 years, let alone after 4 or 5 weeks.

WorryWartOne Cheryl's dad was totally horrible and out of order.

"Did anyone else find Jesse quite hot with his tan and little thong... just me...?" I thought it was quite fascinating he was in the street in his (frankly) quite revealing pants!

"Vanessa is looking for something that isn’t there with Andy. He’s a straight up guy with no agenda, but also no real hidden depths. If she ain’t happy with how he’s presenting right now, she needs to finish it, as I’m fairly sure that’s all she’s getting. No wonder he’s feeling hurt - she’s basically told him he’s got no personality."

I felt very sad and angry on behalf of Andrew when Vanessa was being so demanding of him. However, I felt quite sad too because I am very extrovert like Vanessa and my husband is very like Andrew on the programme! When we dated I really had to think if I could handle such a quiet man! He has come out of himself to some degree and to a large degree I have seen below the surface. It is very interesting to me the dynamics of relationships and that being loud and talkative doesn't necessarily mean a depth of emotions etc, it just means you do find it easy to talk about stuff. Luckily for me and DH our relationship developed without cameras on us (surprise surprise) and I had more than a few weeks to decide if it was right for me/us!

SpanishFly "Cheryl's dad was a total penis. There is just no need to be a prick to someone you've never met and know nothing about."

I completely agree. He was so rude. I think in Andrew's shoes I would have sort of shut down and ignored him. Been the bigger person. With someone like that you maybe (I feel) need to either challenge them and walk out (thereby proving to them that you are not 'worthy' of their daughter); or go OTT playing along 'I completely understand how you feel, Hamish.' 'I'm sure I'd be just the same if I were lucky enough to have a beautiful daughter like Cheryl."

Italiangreyhound · 17/07/2020 02:32

"I can't understand why Shaz is so into Nick." I don't think she is, I think she is putting up with him for the sake of the programme.

When he said at start 'I'm a bogan." I had to look it up. It means "an uncouth or unsophisticated person regarded as being of low social status." I thought at first he was being quite hard on himself but when I saw him drunk, heard he had thrown up three times that night, and then had a membership to a strip club I thought maybe that is just how he is! He does know what he is like.

Sharon is a professional woman, why would she want someone like that.

I do wonder if she was matched with him solely because she had also been cheated on, and she had cheated and that was one of his deal breakers! Cruel if that was the case.

"Michelle wanted him when she first saw the grooms; and cheryl said he should have been matched with her. What is the attraction??!"

HEIGHT! Sadly some of the taller women seemed obsessed with having a tall husband and I think that is the thing he has.

"Jesse is much cuter and much more likeable." I do think Jesse and Simon and Sean and Andrew are coming across so well compared to the others.

PurplePansy05 · 17/07/2020 07:18

The entire Lauren-Andrew-Cheryl-Cheryl's dad storyline looks like a set up to me now, all for some added drama. NO ONE acts like Cheryl's dad in RL!

PurplePansy05 · 17/07/2020 07:21

Sharon to me has a bit of a Gisele Bundchen look.

PurplePansy05 · 17/07/2020 07:23

But saying that I can alao see a bit of Zara Tindall there.

WorryWartOne · 17/07/2020 07:33

As @Italiangreyhound said, it’s definitely the height with Nick. He’s probably one of the grooms I find least attractive tbh. I do think there are slightly different beauty standards in Oz, from what I can gather it’s all about being tall and athletic. To me, Jesse is by far the best looking groom, but none of the brides seem to agree, and I think it’s because he’s shorter and quite pale.

It’s interesting to me also that a lot of the women have huge noses - the twins, Susan, the blonde American one who was with the psycho MALE stripper, Alene, Vanessa and Nadia’s are quite big too... the list goes on! Is it a common facial trait in Oz, or just a mad coincidence?! Considering Alene and the American one aren’t Aussie by heritage, I guess coincidence 🤷🏻‍♀️ As an aside, the women are all attractive, I’m not trying to be rude 😆

@SpanishFly I can also tell the twins apart easily, it was only the first episode where I couldn’t. Michelle has dimples, a wider face, side parting, different shaped lips and eyebrows... I actually struggle to see them as identical now! Sharon also reminds me of someone and I know the expression she pulls you are referring to, but I’m also drawing a blank!

chickensaresafehere · 17/07/2020 07:46

I wondered if the Cheryl's loony Dad outburst was a tester for poor Abandrew.
Will her Dad do the 'Oh mate!! You fell for my shit, wasn't it hilarious!!' Clap him on the back & offer him a dram ?
Antony has 'abuser' written all over him & Nadia is just letting all his nasty comments slide. But I agree she's Mrs dull, not my type of woman at all. In fact non of them are but it's addictive viewing!!

SpanishFly · 17/07/2020 07:55

@WorryWartOne I've just woken up, and think it might be Sara Pascoe I'm thinking she reminds me of. But I'll need to assess that properly when I watch tonight 🤔

WhattheFishappening · 17/07/2020 07:58

Will her Dad do the 'Oh mate!! You fell for my shit, wasn't it hilarious!!' Clap him on the back & offer him a dram?

If he does, I hope Andrew tells him to go fk himself.

SpanishFly · 17/07/2020 08:02

@chickensaresafehere cheryl kept saying things like "I'm worried about him meeting my dad", "my dad's like this with everyone", so either he's always an absolute bellend or the entire thing is fake.
I do think cheryl has been treated like a princess all her life. Her dad implies that nobody will ever be good enough for her, instead of butting out and trusting her to use her own instincts to work out who's right for her. Reading between the lines, he doesn't want anyone to sleep with her if they're wrong for her - he seems insistent that he wants to break them up asap.
I hate when Scotsmen are portrayed like this 🤬

WhattheFishappening · 17/07/2020 08:10

Her dad implies that nobody will ever be good enough for her
The irony is that Andrew is most likely too good for her awful family.

WhattheFishappening · 17/07/2020 08:11

I hate when Scotsmen are portrayed like this
Me too but he’s the one doing the talking...

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/07/2020 08:18

I googled it, perhaps try that?

I had already "tried that" alsohuman, and got lots of stuff, but not what x2boys found. That's why I asked for a link.

I had already googled under several titles including "married at first sight australia season4 contestants comments".

I admit to not being the world's best "googler" and take full responsibility for my own ineptitude. Are you happy now?

SpanishFly · 17/07/2020 08:18

Oh yeah, I know - I agree. But he seems to fit a cliche so they're pushing the point a bit. He is unbearable.
Are the younger kids Cheryl's siblings?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/07/2020 08:38

Sorry I'm not sure how to link and I don't want to spoil t he thread by posting details ,but if you Google the names of the contestants lots of stuff comes up

No problems x2 - TBH the one thing I didn't try was individual contestants' names because I can't remember any of them except Simon who is the sort of young man I wish DD would bring home instead of - but that's another story.

I don't like Fireman Andrew - I think there's a hidden streak of brutality there. He wasn't upset that she'd run out on him - he was furious! You could see it simmering. I agree with whoever said she is too good for him. They edit a lot out- I'd be interested to see what bits of his character have been swept under the carpet.

Big Andrew I feel sorry for. I think he's a really lovely man, but so reserved and silent. I've wondered if the head injury he received has damaged his frontal lobe (which would affect his social interactions) or affected him cognitively - not enough for him not to be "brain damaged" as such, but perhaps "slowed down". Even if not, if he's just a very quiet bloke, it's a great shame because he seems genuinely lovely. I think Vanessa is going to struggle to cope with him.

Jesse is a nice guy, too, I think. Michelle should stop comparing herself to Sharon and just get on with getting to know him. She doesn't have to stay with him forever - it's only a TV show - but she could be pleasanter and give herself a chance to have a friendship with him. Fair enough if she doesn't want to snog him, but she doesn't have to look so miserable all the time about his height.

I'd started off thinking Anthony was very nice, and Nadia had overreacted bolding a wall down the middle of the bed - but a couple of things about him are coming over as seriously creepy - maybe she got a vibe off him right from the start that we, there viewers, weren't aware of.

Cheryl's father is a twonk. As you say, playing to the cameras. But I couldn't understand them thinking she had a scottish accent from the start - she doesn't sound remotely Scottish!

The male stripper (Michael?) is also a nasty guy - gets off on the "power" of having women drool over him, and being able to manipulate them. The last show I watched was the one where he made his "wife" handle a snake - that poor girl (her name escapes me) looked so uncomfortable, and I think enjoyed her discomfort.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/07/2020 08:39

(I may have got the Twins of Evil mixed up above - if so, sorry. I'm finding it really hard to remember who is whowith this lot)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 17/07/2020 08:47

Yes about the big lady noses (I have one myself and am something of a a connoisseur Grin). I rather liked it - I get a bit fed up of all the tiny American snubs we usually see on telly.

bibliomania · 17/07/2020 09:33

I actually pointed out the noses to DD(12) in a positive way. She's self-conscious about her nose, so I was really pleased to point out attractive women with strong noses.

bibliomania · 17/07/2020 09:35

I didn't find much about it when I initially googled, but then stumbled across episode-by-episode recaps by James Weir, which are good fun.

YourVagesty · 17/07/2020 09:54

Cheryl's dad was beyond in last night's episode. If I was Abandrew, I would've actually just walked out. I know that in Cheryl's dad's eyes that would've made me 'fail the test', but that sort of behaviour is just sociopathic and bullying. I'd have no time for it.

KurriKawari · 17/07/2020 10:08

@Italiangreyhound My fave couple is Alene and Simon. I think they are lovely as individuals and ever so sweet as a couple. They don't need grand gestures and have a friendship. They stay out of the dinner table dramas- at one point watching them from another room lol. They're the couple I'd most enjoy a night out with, great sense of humour, willing to be silly - things like Simon dancing to the lebanese music on their wedding to cooking with her mum. They're so easy going.

Honeyroar · 17/07/2020 10:15

I’m starting to think that Alene is going to blow it though. She’s constantly pecking at him and pushing him to “open up”. She’s starting to annoy me, must annoy him being 24/7.

One thing I’ve found strange is the “oh no, you’re sleeping in the spare room” from some of them when they get back to their own homes, yet didn’t they spend the whole of the honeymoon etc in the same room?

As for Nadia building her wall of pillows on the wedding night, I thought she was being silly and OTT, but now I think she should’ve built it out of concrete!

OP posts:
Italiangreyhound · 17/07/2020 10:23

@KurriKawari I like Simon best. But no convinced he us really that into Alene. O liked the way he thanked her friends for comig out to dinner.

Alsohuman · 17/07/2020 10:50

I completely get that. If I’d been with essentially a stranger 24/7 for weeks, I’d be desperate for a bit of space and privacy.

As the owner of a “cute”, little snub nose, I’ve always envied women with strong noses. Mine was fine for a little girl but I think it looks really silly on a grown woman. We’re never happy, are we?
