Brookside - do you remember the Nat and Georgia storyline?

I was too young to watch it, I know it had some very controversial storylines assisted suicide etc. But a brother and sister in a relationship?! Were they full siblings who had grown up together?

OP posts:

I absolutely LOVED Brookside! I watched pretty much the entire thing, got into it quite early on and followed it religiously.

Does anyone remember when Paula Yates made a guest appearance? Shelia and Bobby Grant's daughter Karen (I think was her name) went off to London to become a journalist/tv reporter. That was exciting!

When Barry made Terry's wife Sue and her baby fall off a building site and in effect killed them? he was soooo evil (still fancied him though).

Tinhead and his loony schemes? Ron Dikko and The Moby?

When Katie Rogers got involved with a fella who ended up being a religious nutter? then when her fiance Clint was accidentally murdered by Jackie's dad? ( just typing that sentence brings home how mad the storylines are!) aah, the old days....

I liked Tracy Corkhill as well, she went out with Bazza Grant didn't she? lucky cow...

That’s mixed up. It was Rosie and Eddie who won and wouldn’t share with Bing and his wife, because they’d not paid in.

It was Bings wife’s numbers that came up so eventually they ended up giving them a share.

Rosie got hooked on gambling and kept spending the winnings on scratch cards behind Eddie’s back. She eventually wore the winnings down to £50,000 and drew it all out, took it to a casino and bet on red. It came out black just as Eddie arrived to try stop her.

Watched it from the start and then gave it up as it got silly later on.

I remember the Corkhills (I had a cardigan just like Doreen's), the Grants, the Simpsons (or was that later) and the couple with the grumpy husband. I remember Dinah May being in it and Julie Peasgood as Fran.

Was Heather there at the beginning? Terry's wife Sue (?) was also a paralegal I think? I was very impressed by Heather being a lawyer.

Memorable moments for me were the Kiss between Anna Friel and Debra Stephenson, the incest storyline and Sheila Grant's rape.

The houses look very ordinary now, but I remember at the time they were built they were quite upmarket. There was a definite class-conscious vibe to the programme.

Brookie is very of-its-time I think - moreso than other soaps.

One of my teen crushes was Owen, who was married to Sammy Rogers. I was always jealous of Sammy's beautiful hair! There were three Rogers kids- Sammy, Katie, and Geoff. He was written out when his character went to play football for Torquay United!

I fancied Owen too! And thought Sammy was so pretty.

She had an alcohol problem, didn’t she? I remember her sneakily swigging from vodka bottles she’d got stashed around the house.

This thread is a blast from the past. I was a teenager when the Nate and Georgia storyline was on and me and my friends were just obsessed with it. We knew it was totally gross but Nate was so cute and it was so romantic to idiot teenage girls. Looking back, it felt pretty improbable. I know sometimes siblings who aren’t raised together will be attracted but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a story where a normal stable family had their kids run off together. Even in all my years of flicking through Take a Break type magazines.

I often think about some random Brookie storylines that stayed with me. The gas explosion and Sinbad almost losing his legs, the younger Jordache sister locking her abusive husband in a bathroom for a week to try and kill him, the guy injecting his dying MIL with heroin to ease her pain… it goes on.

Didn't Geoff get killed I know Tony Dixon got run down but I thought Geoff died at one point too?

Loved Brookie! Does anyone else remember Max advertising sausages - they were called gossages and I’m afraid to say that I still call sausages “gossages” to this day Blush

immersivereader · 09/12/2021 20:04

I adored Barry Grant, omg that man

immersivereader · 09/12/2021 20:06

Tommy McArdle used to scare the shit out of me confused

^^

Hahaha! I knew his daughter

ScreamingMeMe · 09/12/2021 20:06

Another one who misses Brookside. I never cared for any of the other soaps but Brookie was my jam.

It's a travesty that it got cancelled while shitty Hollyoaks is still limping along.

Annoyedandirritated · 14/12/2021 14:55

I will never forget the scene of the r car crash where Matthew and Emily died 😭 With Susannah driving in the rain on the motorway and shouting at them to be quiet or she will kill them 😢 and then she crashed and they weren’t wearing seat belts 😭

JuergenSchwarzwald · 14/12/2021 21:48

The siege was the stand-out storyline for me - was shocking that Kate was killed. I loved Sandra (Sheila Grier). But I lost interest in the early 90s, it lost its way later on.

I went to look at the set back in 1986 or something but I couldn't get right up to it at the time. I use to love the original version of the signature tune, too.

Yes in that article I posted she had an abortion because the child would have had genetic abnormalities.

The father went mad when he found out because it was after they were meant to have stopped.

They then moved away, and the parents split up.

Just because they were brother + sister don't mean as she got preg the child would have had genetic abnormalities.

She just didn't want a kid, and forgot to take the pill a number of times-should of just used condoms or the contraceptive injection!

Why have you resurrected a thread from four years ago about a soap opera storyline from 20 odd years ago 🤔

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 12/07/2025 18:55

@Mikekaraoke my post was paying reference to an online fan site which is where I got the information you dispute. The link is broken now and the site doesn’t load. Hope that helps!

Oh I see, fair enough!

Rather annoying when that happens, I remember it being because she didn't want a kid and that is why she had the abortion!

At least this thread as opened up again. And not saying last message was Dec 2020 lol
