I was too young to watch it, I know it had some very controversial storylines assisted suicide etc. But a brother and sister in a relationship?! Were they full siblings who had grown up together?

Rod's wife was Diane/ Diana

I can remember someone getting caught shoplifting, was it Peter's dad?

x2boys · 29/06/2020 09:25

Yeah it was a mobile shop I think @managedmis hence the name " Moby".

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/06/2020 17:48

Bev got together with Ron when he was working in his shop (he the The Moby but his dream was to own his own shop. So when they built The Parade , opposite The Garage he snapped one up)
Jaqui had a Club (weird name like The Shelf ) not sure if she went into partnership with Max Farnham but there was a resturant somewhere .

Jaqui had a surrogate baby for Max and Suzanne but I think she felll in love with Max and wanted to keep the baby too.

Ron fell madly for Bev as DeeDee (his wife) was spurning him for the Church and spiralling into depression. Bev bolstered his middle aged ego.
She had a son Josh who was actually Mike's (Ron's son) concieved after one night of 'very disappointing sex'

Then years later she turns up in the Close , in a big car , minted because she inherited from a woman she was housekeeper for .

JaneJeffer · 29/06/2020 19:57

I think the club was called La Luz?

icebearforpresident · 29/06/2020 20:01

Something that randomly popped into my head. Was ‘The Parade’ the same place they film Holyoakes, where Tony had his resultant and Max Cunningham had the shop?

(The fact I just referenced Max Cunningham may tell you when I last watched Holyoakes!)

Badmemorieshouse · 29/06/2020 20:16

Yes they used some of the same sets, I did extra work for hollyoaks back in the day and bumped into Jimmy Corkhill Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/06/2020 21:33

Oooh "Meadowcoft Park" and "The Magic Bunnnies"

Phil Redmond wanted their own soap because people spend so much time watching them. But they wouldn't be able to keep the continuity of a real one showing on Brookie .

Yes I think the club was La Luz . So what was The Shelf ( I didn't dream it Grin )

redskittleorangeskittle · 29/06/2020 21:43

The siege was very exciting.

LadyMuck111 · 29/06/2020 21:56

I loved Brookie. Saturday afternoon onmibus while eating my tea then heading off out clubbing.
Barry Grant was lush.
I think i loved all the characters and reading this thread has given me a blast from the past.

I remember Jacqui Dixon's boyfriend Nathan Cuddington taking her to met his family on 'the estate' Jacqui assumed it was a council estate so was totally chilled about it but it was a country estate 😂

Didn't Jacqui also sleep with Katie Rogers' boyfriend for £2k (I even remember the exact amount 🙄) for the club deposit, then expect Katie to suck it up and still be BFFs afterwards?

Grace25 · 30/06/2020 19:14

Really was he still 😯😂, does explain changing his name and quitting acting, bit extreme responce though 😂 I had a crush on Nat, that's what saved the storyline they were both pretty & likeable 😉, it was well written I thought. I used to like Brookside found episode uploads on YT during lockdown and bringed would liked to have seen him in other roles thought he had promise. Yer the storyline was dodgy subject but they both made you root for them well I did. I think not seeing relationship start, just seeing two conscenting adults, I often forgot they were siblings. It was sensitively handled could have been really sleazy or tacky. They were clearly shown as being in love and it not being just about thrill sex but the closeness, to me anyway just felt sorry for them and liked ending they were given.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 04/07/2020 16:04

Well this thread made me watch the Jordache storyline too so I've been back on YouTube! His posh voice when he eventually appeared was not what I was expecting!

Jimmy's son drug addiction I think is best dealing with addiction I've seen on tv still. I looked up what Helen who played Georgia been up to, she's constantly worked but not been given the lead stand out tv role again. Not sure if that was down to her Brookside role, if so that's a shame. They were both very good actors thought same of parents the four hander therapy episodes were really strong. Soap produce so many episodes now they seem to rush storylines for next ratings. I haven't watched any in some years they too much commitment of time liked when they were just twice a week.

Brookside were brillliant at the slow boil .
When Barry offered to marry Terry's nanny to give her status to stay in the UK, (in exchange for her having a baby for him) it was rolled out over several weeks .

Eastenders did a : Phil goes to pissed off at Sharon because she's gone back to Grant . Meets Nadia , (Russian?) needs to find a way to stay in UK. Next thing Phil marries her ...... Eh? (Of course she turns up in the Square to cause havoc later)

PoloNeckKnickers · 05/07/2020 06:49

I used to love Brookside and had a massive crush on Damon. I did my PGCE at a teachet training college in Liverpool and one of the porters told us he was Sinbad's dad. We were so impressed! We also saw Frank Rogers in a pub and talked about it for ages afterwards.
I also remember fancying the fit bloke who lived with the nurses. I think he was married to Denise Welch in real life and was pretty abusive. I also thought thay Peter Harrison was the most beautiful man I'd ever seen. He's married to Leanne Battersby now.
I can't believe that nobody has mentionef Ducksie & Gizmo!

GreenShadow · 08/07/2020 20:06

Just spotted this thread.

Brookside is the only soap I've ever and I must have watched almost every episode from (almost) day one (I missed about a month at the start).

Sad as I was when it ended, it did seem to have run its course and the later families and story lines were no match for those back in the 80s and early 90s.

Weirdly, I've now got to know one of the cast from the last few years and wonder how excited I'd have been if I'd know them back then (sad face!)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/07/2020 21:25

Go on , tell us it's Paul Usher /Barry Grant (even if it isn't) just to get the Envy Envy Envy posts Grin

PoloNeckKnickers · 08/07/2020 21:43

Tommy McArdle used to scare the shit out of me Confused

GreenShadow · 09/07/2020 22:19

Go on , tell us it's Paul Usher /Barry Grant

Sadly no.
It is a member of one of the newer families from the last year or so - actually someone very unmemorable.

Willowmartha1 · 06/08/2020 07:44

I watched the first ever episode on you tube the other day it was hilarious and so wooden !!

dayswithaY · 06/08/2020 20:14

Why has no one mentioned the legendary kids between Margaret the Nanny and Beth Jordache? The papers had a field day with that one, as it was the first time two women kissed on TV. I think Beth died after a drugs overdose or something?

dayswithaY · 06/08/2020 20:15

Kiss not kids!

TheKarenWhoKnocks · 06/08/2020 20:22

Was the guy who lived with the nurses called Pat? I didn't know he was abusive ☹️ they painted the living room four different colours, one wall each, because they couldn't agree on a single one. 35 years ago!

TheKarenWhoKnocks · 06/08/2020 20:25

Also, I don't know if this has been mentioned but I always thought it a bit flippant that the "first gay out character in a soap" was called Gordon.

(Like the dance.)

Come on, that's no accident.

TheKarenWhoKnocks · 06/08/2020 20:34

Oh yeah and Max's wife's name was Pat. I dimly remember some stupid storyline where he got a teenager to write a valentine card to her (no, I don't know either) and it went something like "my very dearest darling pat, I am so glad you are not fat" and max was cross because it was shit.
