I was too young to watch it, I know it had some very controversial storylines assisted suicide etc. But a brother and sister in a relationship?! Were they full siblings who had grown up together?

@ItsSpittingEverybodyIn

I had a big crush on Tinhead lol
I’m just watching him on “Four in a Bed” on More4.

I remember this. She was very elegant, worked as a designer I think.

Jennifer Worth wrote about this topic in Call the Midwife and it featured in an episode of the tv series. The real-life couple had been sent to separate workhouses as children before WW1, were reunited many years later and fell in love. That was the difference, they’d never been proper siblings.

SerenDippitty · 21/06/2020 19:02

Yes I remember it. As I recall they went off somewhere to live as partners together.

SerenDippitty · 21/06/2020 19:04

I remember Ron Dixon being furious because another act was doing the clubs - called Dick Ronson.

sociallydistained · 21/06/2020 19:07

I was proper young when this was on but I was fascinated lol. Wrong!

LindowMan · 21/06/2020 19:09

I'm old enough to remember Paul and Annabelle and their downsizing from the Wirral.

gower4 · 21/06/2020 19:36

I remember Paul and Annabelle!

Just binge watched some of the Nat and Georgia storyline on YouTube. What a totally weird thing for a story writer to think up!!

jakeyboy1 · 21/06/2020 20:23

I remember Emily Shadwick and Tinhead's wedding. Bring back Brookside ... imagine it now with a few wannabe WAG's in would be brilliant.

MrsEsss · 21/06/2020 20:28

I remember this storyline. I loved Brookside. Loved that it was filmed in real houses in a real street.

My favourites were Damon and Debbie. I thought she was so pretty and I was in love with him. Cried for ages when he was stabbed and died in the 'Damon and Debbie' spin off.

@MrsEsss are you me?! 😭😭😭

LindowMan · 21/06/2020 20:37

Never seen York in the same way since either...

InvisibleWomenMustBeRead · 21/06/2020 20:43

I loved Damon and Debbie too!

Badmemorieshouse · 21/06/2020 20:47

An you actually watch the whole of Brookline on YouTube? Starting from the beginning!?

Fishypants · 21/06/2020 20:55

I worked with actor who played Nat, he was a writer on Coronation Street ( don't know whether he still is). Even 20 years later, he was mortified whenever anyone mentioned that storyline!

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 21/06/2020 21:05

I watched pretty much all of it yesterday up until they left together to live in a new area. What a fucked up storyline! Okay if they'd come from a dysfunctional background or had an abusive history or something you could understand if they got confused between what was right and what wasn't... but they were normal, decent people well brought up by loving respectable parents. It just would not happen! Though apparently the writers deliberately chose highly photogenic actors so they weren't accused of stereotyping etc.

Poor bloke.

To add to it he had the the very nineties curtain hair cut 😆

gower4 · 21/06/2020 21:07

Why does he have such a weird accent in it?

Mammyloveswine · 21/06/2020 21:59

Omg I remember this!!!

Brookside was amazing!

eatsleepread · 21/06/2020 22:04

I remember it! Brookie had some fairly groundbreaking storylines for its day.

MargotLovedTom1 · 21/06/2020 23:04

My God, I loved Damon. You could keep Barry!
I wanted to be Heather when I grew up, although wasn't her husband a secret drug addict (as well as massively punching above his weight!).
Poor Sheila and the rape. Didn't they accuse Matty but it turned out to be a taxi driver? Or was it Matty? Can't remember now!

MargotLovedTom1 · 21/06/2020 23:05

So many exclamation marks Blush.

NoProblem123 · 21/06/2020 23:07

Yeah full siblings who grew up together.
I remember them as a good looking family too so not like they were short on options Confused

Annonymiss123 · 21/06/2020 23:15

A family member worked on Brookie and I was on set a few times. Because they used a real housing estate, you were able to go into the houses (unlike Corrie for example, where the house fronts are fake). It was the weirdest thing to be in the houses - because it was all so familiar it was like snooping around your neighbour’s house when they weren’t there. 😂

Nat6999 · 21/06/2020 23:36

Margotlovedtom it was the taxi driver

Making me go all hot thinking about Barry Grant, still gorgeous now in Eastenders, love a bad boy.

B1rdbra1n · 21/06/2020 23:41

So I just had a look at the EastEnders Barry Grant😍
obviously he's not what he was back in his heyday💞
but I still would💘
