I thought I might as well start it. As then I won't have to go searching for the new thread.

  • Haberdashers.. see how excited i am!
Tablefor4 · 26/06/2020 21:13

I noticed a while ago that Claire was a lung specialist and so her last 5 months must have been horrific. And then every time they mentioned it, it was a bit like some teenage boy referring to how exciting his 18th birthday in 1914 was going to be.

Hope she and Ali have held up and are getting to do some sewing

googledontknow · 27/06/2020 09:36

I always thought Claire looked at Patrick rather like my dog looks at me when I'm eating a cheese sandwich, never crossed my mind that she might be gay (I don't have insta)

SoupDragon · 27/06/2020 09:43

@SchadenfreudePersonified

Excellent Soup

We'll work it between us.

We can do this . . .

Obviously by "clean the haberdashery" I really meant "clean out the haberdashery". I'm willing to share,

I do follow her on Instagram and it still never occurred to me. Not that it would bother me if she was but people can be single and do things with same sex friends.

Hope lockdown doesn't play havoc with creating next year's
I know, I've been thinking that Sad Was thinking of how all the shows I love along these lines – Bake Off, Throw Down, Best Home Cook... – might just not come back next year.

I don't do Instagram so am not sure where I got my ideas about Claire.

Roussette · 27/06/2020 11:29

Oh yes, Throw Down! That's another one I love. But surely it's pretty easy to safe distance with that one?
You just sit at your own potters wheel

Fingers crossed!

IntermittentParps · 27/06/2020 11:42

I think for all of them they need to think about stuff like handling and passing round the materials, judges/presenters and contestants walking round the room/the set, how do they manage accommodation (I assume for some shows at least, they stay away from home), what about tea breaks and lunch etc...

oldstripeyNEWname1 · 27/06/2020 14:19

Lurked on this thread, as usually working when the 'Bee was on and watched it later with my daughter.

googled either of my sons, or my 12 year old daughter would set you straight.

No contestant had an advantage because they did/did not have children and had more/less time to practice. That's entirely speculation. All the contestants were able to give information about their jobs, families, hobbies. You simply have no idea about how they their lives, or how their families and friends support them. For all you know, a contestant with kids could have been given time off work and employ a nanny. Another might be in full time work with caring responsibilities for an older relative. Those examples could apply to men or women equally, alone, or in heterosexual or same sex relationships.

What you've done is make a dated & sexist comment.

IntermittentParps · 27/06/2020 15:58

Hear, hear, oldstripey!

StCharlotte · 27/06/2020 16:29

This series seems to arrived hot on the heels of the last series. I know it hasn't (I checked) but it only seems five minutes ago that we were watching this lady and her cohort.

ElspethFlashman · 27/06/2020 16:44

Oh I looooved her! She was a solicitor, right?

IntermittentParps · 27/06/2020 16:47

God, I'd forgotten about her. She was an architect, or managed architects, or something. She had a sort of frenzied energy, if I remember rightly. Somewhat uptight.

Haggisfish · 27/06/2020 16:51

Yes she was, massively highly strung.

ElspethFlashman · 27/06/2020 17:19

Didn't she wear Louboutins? She was such good TV.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/06/2020 17:32

I didn't take to her.

It's Ok - I read between the lines Wink

Auldspinster · 27/06/2020 18:30

I read Claire's Instagram and there was some reference to a suitable chap or boyfriend, I think she just has female friends and a busy life. She and Patrick seem quite well suited.

IntermittentParps · 27/06/2020 19:09

'a suitable chap'
Love that turn of phrase Grin

googledontknow · 27/06/2020 19:09

No, oldstripey unfortunately it's not a dated or sexist view at all.
All my female friends/relative do waaayyyy more childcare, housework, admin, family caring than their man partners. It seems to make no difference if the women have full time or part time jobs.

I know there are accepting to this, and lots of lucky women who have true equality, but I would suggest it's still a very small minority.

Gotta keep fighting it, the fight for equality is not over!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Claire fancied Patrick hands off I saw him first!

Auldspinster · 27/06/2020 20:02

I grew up just up the road from him and, had he gone to state school, would have been a couple of years below him, so I get first dibs!

oldstripeyNEWname1 · 27/06/2020 23:39

Yes google but in the context of the accusation you made, it wasn't fair to allege one woman and one man would have more time to practice because neither had children, against one other (married) woman who did.

In this house, both my husband and I, at various times, have worked full time, part time, been students, the stay at home parent. Both cook, clean, do the washing, shopping, childcare, finances, ironing. We fight when we decorate so I do that. He gardens because I hate it. Our children see us working through stuff, they see sharing as normal, mum or dad on the school run as normal. They have their own chores. Normal, swap amongst each other. Normal.

I hope we've done a good job teaching them to be good at looking after themselves & their future family, whatever that is, whoever they share it with.

And I expect all three, boys and girl, to challenge any discrimination when they see it. Workplace. Shops, services. Education.

Didkdt · 29/06/2020 01:08

She's been so great as a contestant and to be honest if she had that much support from her colleagues then she must be highly regarded.

Binglebong · 29/06/2020 02:00

Agreed. She is one of those people, and there's a few on MN as well, who I really wish I knew in real life. I always feel I'd be rather a let down though so perhaps it's best I don't!
