New dram series starts tonight on bbc 1

With only hours left to deliver a draft of a book to her publishers , writer Arabella is tempted into a night out with a friend ........

the series is set in London and centers around the story of a young woman who must rebuild her life after her drink is spiked with a date rape drug

Aaaand I just realised the title of her book was (possibly given the timeline) the date she was raped.

I need to watch this again, see what other things I missed.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 14/07/2020 21:11

Biagio was a scumbag....Loved the last 'love in' scene with all the mates.

mizu · 14/07/2020 21:17

Just finished and the last episode just took my breath away, amazing. She is amazing.

HyggeTygge · 14/07/2020 22:44

Loved this. Think I could happily ("happily") watch it from the start again. The publisher lady was mad, wasn't she? Or was that just a weird way of legitimately dropping Bella because she wasn't writing anything?

famousforwrongreason · 15/07/2020 04:41

I don't think she was mad, just a completely mercenary workaholic.
I think she was an illustration of the shifting sands Bella found herself on. She was a black woman, Bella had confided on her for this very reason. The woman turned out not to be an ally.
I've found this several times in business, thinking someone will automatically get where I'm coming from and be in my corner because we're women, and it really doesn't work out that way.

CherryValanc · 15/07/2020 07:41

@icebearforpresident

I thought it said Gordon/Ben as well, glad it wasn’t just me.
I thought it said "Golden Boy" so you were closer than me.

Couldn't work out what it meant at all. 😆

mizu · 15/07/2020 09:10

And I loved the ping towards the end and a couple of plants appeared in her room Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/07/2020 10:25

Ok. I’m confused

Which of the 3 endings was it

Or it was all

And walking out with her ‘baggage’

The one they catch him and beat him up

The one with reverse situation and he was abused

Or the one where they were lovers

Lipstick Alley was rather unrewarding - I gave up at ep 3 ...

As for IMDY - awesome. So much to take in. Needs processing.

Spot on with Libreria at the end for her reading.

Absolute landmark of a show.

Shedtheload · 15/07/2020 11:06

Blondes I’m not sure that she ever really found out who it was. I think it was just different scenarios she was working through in her book and in her head. In the last one, where she’s in control and he leaves with the stuff under the bed, she’s finally able to move on from it. Maybe it was real where she remembered his face but I think all three scenarios where she goes back to confront him were imaginary.

FTMF30 · 15/07/2020 11:28

I definitely need to watch again. What I found confusing was the last potential ending. They appear to be lovers, but then does that ending mean she is providing an alternative where she wasn't raped at all?

The first two options take it from seeing him at the bar from her return visit after having been raped. But the third option seems to portray it's the first time she met him.

Again, I really do need to watch again. I'm so gutted I got distracted for the last episode.

CherryValanc · 15/07/2020 12:01

None of them happened. The first two were her ideas/thoughts of revenge.

The third was symbolic of her taking control of her trauma (which had been in control of her unknown rapist and need for revenge). Hence empty bar (chaos gone) and the role reversals (change of control).

The very last scence (Halloween teeth and running down the beach) I saw as her having been changed by her past but able to move on with her future

BringMeTea · 15/07/2020 13:31

What a ride! Yeah I assume she never remembered but found a way to move on. Do people ever remember if they've been spiked? Is it possible? No women died 'horribly' thankfully... Wink
Well done Ms Coel.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/07/2020 15:50

Ah right. Thanks didn’t even notice Halloween teeth

Blonde !!!

Am I the only one a little pissed odd with ending. I wanted a proper ending

One where he is caught

I liked the first ending tho wasn’t sure if they killed him with knickers

But then last ending and baggage going was good

As in she dealt with her issues

Tho still wanted a proper ending

Can’t be a s2

'Am I the only one a little pissed odd with ending. I wanted a proper ending

I hear you, but lots of women in this situation dont get justice, the case gets dropped and they dont get the ending they want either. I don't know if MC's rapists were ever brought to justice. I hope she found it cathartic and healing to write about her experience in this way

megletthesecond · 15/07/2020 16:07

I don't think her rapist was caught in real life so presumably (hopefully 🤞) writing and filming this was cathartic for her.

Lottapianos · 15/07/2020 16:08

'BTW I just went back to see the hovering figure on the Halloween ep - HOW on earth did I not see that?'

Oh my GOD, I cant believe I missed that first time round either! Had to go back and check. Bloody terrifying Shock

megletthesecond · 15/07/2020 16:16

@Lottapianos I spotted it late at night first time round then went on to have a nightmare about it. I don't do any horror films Blush.

Lottapianos · 15/07/2020 16:18

Meglet, I'm not surprised to hear about the nightmare! Petrifying Shock

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/07/2020 17:32

True @Lottapianos and @megletthesecond

Guess they don’t get justice

And yes rme someone saying was all on a true story

Glad she got demons gone

I just rewatched that bit! Me too! How did I miss that? Creepy as all hell.

This show was impeccable. I'm sort of at a loss for words. Just brilliant.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/07/2020 22:29

Ok in need to go back now to Halloween

How many mins is hovering figure and is it e 9/10

Mumratheevergiving · 16/07/2020 00:10

Just incredible writing and acting. Brave & thought provoking throughout. Relieved to be out of my youth but it was a welcome insight into things, new and old, my children may face navigating young adulthood.

This series raises the bar & makes you realise how low calibre a lot of drama on TV is. MC should be inundated come award season but more importantly know that she is opening up dialogues that are needed.

KittyWindbag · 16/07/2020 01:53

Thought this was fantastic. I need to discuss the last episode because it’s blown me away. I can’t believe people (media, not here) still comparing with PWB and fleabag. They’re nothing like each other. I loved fleabag but honestly this is nothing like it in any way? so much darker, deeper, more challenging.

Any one else picked up on the fact she is wearing a purple not pink wig in the last flashing scenes at the beach??

The bar staff was also wearing the same purple wig in Bella’s 3rd dreamlike scenario with her rapist. I’m intrigued by this!! Why?? Anyone else got a theory?

Lottapianos · 16/07/2020 06:59

'How many mins is hovering figure and is it e 9/10'

It's in the first minute or so. Shes sitting on her bed, Ben comes past and asks her if shes ok, then theres a wide shot of her bedroom and you see it
