New dram series starts tonight on bbc 1

With only hours left to deliver a draft of a book to her publishers , writer Arabella is tempted into a night out with a friend ........

the series is set in London and centers around the story of a young woman who must rebuild her life after her drink is spiked with a date rape drug

@MsEllany

Oh I forgot to mention - the threesome, I think Terry basically decides to 'own' what happened despite it not being quite what she expected as she was played by the two dudes. I think a bit like (clumsy feminist analogy!) women only wear make up and shave legs 'for them' and claim no influence from society, so she has decided that she was totally in control and therefore it was freeing rather than slightly uncomfortable.

Also the bits I didn't like were the social media stuff, but I have to admit this is really because I don't get that at all. I'm only 5 years old than MC but it's clear this makes a huge difference!

I'm way older than any of thrm and none of this feels alien to me, eek!

Watching 11 now, torn between getting on with my day off chores or having a much needed rest and telly break

famousforwrongreason · 13/07/2020 15:08

'I May Destroy You' ?
Completed it mate.

Wow. Brilliant. Cried at the end (& throughout).

Perfect.

MsEllany · 13/07/2020 16:06

Just finished ep 11 and I am Shock.

Ulysses · 13/07/2020 16:37

I've finished it all now and loved the ending. I was worried where it was going to end up but managed to cotton on. It was very satisfying and I'm glad of who ended up in the final scene.

MsEllany · 13/07/2020 16:58

Just finished as well. The ending was very satisfying although there were a few moments of a sharp intake of breath!

FabulouslyGlamourousFerret · 13/07/2020 19:23

Well that didn't disappoint did it!! I sort of wish we had the first ending though 🤣

muckandnettles · 13/07/2020 19:57

Great ending. 'I'll only leave if you tell me to.' So brilliant.

Lorddenning1 · 13/07/2020 20:23

I loved how they reversed the gender roles in one of the endings, for example the man sexy dancing for the women

icebearforpresident · 13/07/2020 20:26

Wow! Can we just give everyone involved in this show, but especially MC, all the awards, right now?

What a series! The ending of episode 11 really had me on the edge of my seat and there were parts of 12 where I really didn’t know where it was going but as good as the first ending would have been I loved how it ended, she let go of all the ghosts under her bed.

That one is one I've fantasised about many many times. I have to admit it felt good to watch. Annd not saying anymore now for fear of spoilers
DorsetCamping · 13/07/2020 20:47

Just me that was left utterly confused? Blush

CurlsandCurves · 13/07/2020 21:02

Loved it! Took me a while to process the last episode and work it all out.

The first ending really reminded me of ‘Trainspotting’. Just the bit where one person says how do you know it’s working and another says because he can’t hear a word we’re saying. Planning out to them walking right behind him!

Something I noticed right from the start. A calls the guy who raped her ‘my raper ‘ . I’ve never heard that word before, someone who rapes is usually described as a rapist. But I now think it’s deliberate. A raper implies ownership, as in he rapes me. So she was allowing the rape to own her initially, if that makes sense. I’m not sure if I am making sense but...

Oh and why the name change between Patrick and David?

FTMF30 · 13/07/2020 21:06

@DorsetCamping You're not alone. I was left a little underwhelmed and confused by the ending. Although DS woke from his nap about 10mins before the end so I was half wayching whilst trying to get him back to sleep and then avert his eyes when he was having none of it and wanted out of his travel cot. I'll have to watch again.

Ulysses · 13/07/2020 21:07

He begins to call her David when he reverts to being the victim in the 2nd scenario. I think!

Ulysses · 13/07/2020 21:07

So David was Patrick’s abuser.

Lorddenning1 · 13/07/2020 21:10

@Ulysses it has so many layers to it doesn't it, like for example the first ending, him carrying on raping women and his getting his just desserts and the second ending flipped it as him being the victim, the old age saying that the abused becomes the abuser.

Ulysses · 13/07/2020 21:14

I loved the tropes that were spun out in them and applaud the show for not going down that road.

Ulysses · 13/07/2020 21:16

spoilerrs below

Even till the end I thought Ben might be a wrong ‘un so I was pleased that he was one of the few good guys.

singme · 13/07/2020 21:18

Yes loved the last episode and glad it didn’t go the way it looked like it was at the beginning....

Won’t say too much more until others have caught up!

Although piece of paper on the wall- did it say Gordon/Ben?? Before the 4th return to the garden scene.

CurlsandCurves · 13/07/2020 21:34

There’s a really interesting thread about this on Lipstick Alley if anyone’s interested.

Someone’s posted their thoughts on the final 2 episodes which I found fascinating.

Nowhere near the same thing. But this is going to be another Fleabag in that we are going to keep on talking and talking about it.

Chienloup · 13/07/2020 21:53

It said Garden - Ben.

Chienloup · 13/07/2020 21:55

That was incredible, but utterly nerve shredding to watch.

megletthesecond · 13/07/2020 21:56

I can breathe again now. The firestarter bit Shock.

Bravo to MC. The BBC were very smart in letting her take control.
