@SunsetBeetch

Did you see where she had a flashback of Simon standing over her?

Yes, there were several different mens' faces weren't there? I hope this doesn't mean there were multiple rapists.

I think it meant she still doesn't clearly remember what the attacker looked like, the face we've been seeing so far has been unclear on purpose.

Although with how unpredictable this show is I could be completely wrong!

What's doxing please? Confused.

What's doxing please? Confused.

Doxing has happened on forums like this. People have found out people's details, addresses, places of work and posted them on line - and waged a hate campaign against them.

Wonderful, gritty MC interview published today in New York magazine.

Did anybody notice the thing hanging over her bed in the opening scene? Very creepy. Halloween costume? But then it disappeared in next scene. Did I imagine it?

I did! I doubted myself at the time. Had to rewind it and watch again after she saw herself sitting in the chair in the bedroom scene - super-creepy.
megletthesecond · 06/07/2020 23:15

@minilegofigure and @NetflixandWill . Yes, I just had to go back and check. It looks like her in her long straight hair and black clothes? But only for a split second.

Yes! Arabella unravelling. So clever in a Halloween episode. Brilliant.

minilegofigure · 06/07/2020 23:33

Thank you. It was Arabella in the outfit she wore for the party- and yes she heard herself giving herself the same speech she had given Kwame. So clever but freaked me out. Glad you saw it too. It was so quick - you sort of doubted yourself.

MinecraftMother · 07/07/2020 00:25

The bit where she was hovering over herself in the bed was so creepy! I had to rewind it.

It also looked like something was in the water with her.

I've seen stills of her coming out of the water and sitting on the beach next to a man in swimming trunks. So maybe there's a flashback in the next couple of episodes?

I am going to watch this from start to finish again.

I loved the way Terry was just about to tell her how sorry she was about telling Simon to leave her, Bella cut her up and said her thank yous. She's realising that things aren't black and white, despite the shit she gave Kwame (who is beautiful, I have seen him in something else recently, was it Gangs?).

I've not gone over and over, and read and discussed a series like this for ages. What a talent MC is!

Chienloup · 07/07/2020 01:20

For any Papa Essiedu fans - his Hamlet from the RSC is on iPlayer at the moment.

Hyperfish101 · 07/07/2020 06:02

Kwame is great. It’s a tough watch. Not many likeable characters in it. All annoying In different ways. . But human and flawed. Like RL I guess.

The image of a figure hanging over Bella was so spooky! What was that!!!!? Also very suspicious of the flatmate.

I do find it exhausting to watch though. I just keep wanting them to calm down.

Thanks, that was really good. And "the most sublimely unsettling show of the year." is a perfect description.

singme · 07/07/2020 09:45

Oh yes totally forgot about the creepy figure.

Yes I like how everyone has done good and bad things. Was it on here where someone said “everyone is just a bit shit”?

I’ll have to watch that Hamlet now- thanks!

Also starting Chewing Gum!

pinkpinecone · 07/07/2020 09:48

Really enjoyed the last couple of episodes. I thought the part about how we go around pointing fingers, blaming others and often fail to look at our own behaviour was really interesting. This has been a theme throughout with all the different complicated scenarios and how often (although not always) you can see how both sides were in the wrong in some way. Also the point about social media and how it's kind of like loads of people shouting into space but not really listening to others and how toxic it can be. Interestingly I don't think MC has an Instagram page I had a quick look and couldn't see one anyway.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/07/2020 10:43

It's not just brilliantly written it's also shot so well too. The Halloween episode was almost dream like in places. Reminded me of Black Mirror at times. I loved their costumes too, they reminded me of Romeo and Juliet.

Agree floating Arabella was very creepy, looked almost like "she" was soaking wet too. I had to rewind as I thought I'd imagined it. I wonder if that ties in with the diagram the therapist did with her? Reality no longer staying buried but floating up or something, as all those items were under the bed?

Kwame is very beautiful.

I am also now having doubts about the flatmate chap (I really want him to be a good guy).

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 07/07/2020 10:57

And that interview is a very good read. I think I may have a little crush on MC.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/07/2020 11:38

Yes Ben seems a bit suss

OP posts:
Shedtheload · 07/07/2020 11:48

I’m also worried that Ben is not what he seems, although I am not sure how he would have known where she was, as I thought the rape happened in the toilets of the bar. But he’s definitely being set up as being a bit weird.
I really hope nobody behaves the way Arabella does in the doctor’s office, pausing him so that she can do her vlog.
I can’t wait for the next two episodes. It’s so compelling and I hope she wins lots of awards for this. She’s awesome.

InglouriousBasterd · 07/07/2020 12:20

It was almost nightmarish what was under her bed as well - the scan picture, fine, but she seemed to have kept her blood soaked pads from what I could see. And it was all hidden under there, like a bad dream.

muckandnettles · 07/07/2020 12:29

Just watched the recent 2 episodes - it's just getting better each time, so complex. I really need to watch it again as I get transfixed by what they are wearing (Halloween especially) and their faces. That final scene with Bella and Terry was so difficult to watch, so was the scene with her mum and dad. The way her dad asked her if she was okay and her mum gave her a bright smile to indicate not to tell him anything (I think?) So much is implied and under the surface, it actually credits the audience with some intelligence.

BobGalaxy · 07/07/2020 12:39

I can't believe I didn't notice the creepy version of herself hanging over the bed! I just watched it back and jumped out of my skin Grin
Amazingly written. So many layers that continue to build.

Imadreamer44 · 07/07/2020 14:24

I didn't notice it either! There's so much going on in each scene isn't there.

FTMF30 · 07/07/2020 14:28

@SunsetBeetch

Did you see where she had a flashback of Simon standing over her?

Yes, there were several different mens' faces weren't there? I hope this doesn't mean there were multiple rapists.

My interpretation was that it portrayed how her trust in men has now been damaged. Many of them will be innocent but she's picturing all men as rapists.
Shedtheload · 07/07/2020 14:32

I can’t really see it being Simon. I think he’s a dick for leaving her but I think all his attention was focused on his hook-up and I don’t think he raped Arabella. Wonder if Ben somehow bumped into her (maybe following her) and offered to ‘help’ her, although that doesn’t really explain why the rape happened in the bar as he’d have more opportunity to do it at their flat. At the same time, it can’t have been Ben who spiked her as he wasn’t out with them.
