Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

So, I saw an ironing board, but where are the washer / dryer?

FlamingoAndJohn · 16/06/2020 20:37

The wood burner is in the middle of the house. Where does it vent?

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 16/06/2020 20:38

Just saw the levels. 😀

Brillig · 16/06/2020 20:38

Ha. Practicality wins out, then.

I bet cost had an impact too.

jay55 · 16/06/2020 20:40

So did Robert not win any this series?

houseforanartlover · 16/06/2020 20:51

Where are the coats?

Yubaba · 16/06/2020 20:54

Ahhhhhh, a big storm just knocked out my sky!

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 16/06/2020 20:55

Think the coats were in the other half of the understairs cupboard. I like it. The utility area has come out really well.

houseforanartlover · 16/06/2020 20:57

I have utility envy.

Brillig · 16/06/2020 20:57

£34k before decoration. Whew.

I loved the upstairs utility.

jay55 · 16/06/2020 21:00

The bathroom looks good too and accounts for extra spend. Made a lot of sense to put the loo where it could have a window. Though they now have to walk/carry muddy shoes all the way down the corridor to the cupboard.

houseforanartlover · 16/06/2020 21:00

It all came out pretty well, makes me wish I could do something with my narrow hallway.

houseforanartlover · 16/06/2020 21:02

And you can't get in or out of the kitchen if the cupboard door is open.

woodhill · 16/06/2020 21:57

I thought tonight's was very good, more normal and practical

ImAncient · 16/06/2020 22:46

I love this program but I’m glad there will be different architects. Loved Laura’s design with the utility.

LadyEloise · 16/06/2020 22:50

Where was Robert putting the washing machine and dryer ?

They had loads of room at the right hand side of the hall door, why didn't they just extend out ?

21NewNames · 16/06/2020 22:53

Didn’t see anywhere for coats to go though.

peachypetite · 17/06/2020 08:55

Really disliked the green, nasty brown stripe carpet and then the navy and yellow.

LadyEloise · 17/06/2020 10:07

I thought it was a little disingenuous when the couple said they went for Robert's design and then didn't.

I am actually feeling sorry for Robert Shock
His designs never hardly ever are chosen.
Does he wonder why ?

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 17/06/2020 11:27

I think he knows - he admitted he'd only "kind of" followed the brief last night.

I'm now confused - Sky is saying that last night was 6/7, but next week's is 8/8. I'll watch it anyway. 🙂. I am excited by the thought of different architects in future seasons.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/06/2020 11:40

Didn’t see anywhere for coats to go though

Yes I wondered that.

I also loved the upstairs utility, but would it be more of an issue if the washer flooded? If they were upstairs. Although I think the US and European countries tend to have them upstairs as standard and we are the odd ones out having them in the kitchen usually.

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/06/2020 11:41

I'd love to know why there was such a delay in showing last nights episode. I wonder if they hadn't finished the project or maybe they took so long living with it made out of cardboard before deciding.

I did wonder what Robert thought of that, them making his design out of cardboard then deciding it wouldn't have worked.

littlejalapeno · 17/06/2020 12:05

There’s no way they could’ve done Roberts on 25k! I also don’t get why they didn’t just extend out to the side and get the flow around the house and extra utility and storage space that way. If the 25k wasn’t brought to extend with it certainly wasn’t enough for Roberts open plan hub house. The end result was conventional but seemed practical, though massive shame they chose that stripy carpet and not Laura’s striking Blue angled decor. Buuuut the Oriel window was not adding anything and took away from the doorway. You want the door to be the design moment as you approach/enter the house, not the bloody big window box next to it!

I think from watching this series I’ve realised I don’t quite like open plan as much as I thought I did. Big rooms are lovely but intimate spaces are also important. Getting the daylight right and windows in the right places to facilitate that is my take away. What about the rest of you?

Would be interesting to see new architects next series, though I do like the practical design vs high architecture dynamic.
