Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

Oh gosh, it came back last August but called 'Interior Design Masters'. They did the same basic concept of sending people into different rooms to re-design them - but as I say, different hosts and a different feel.

It's not on iplayer any more, I'm sorry Sad. Anyone with Netflix, might it still be on there? I don't have it....

I really miss Interior Design Challenge. I liked the spliced history bits. I could watch Tom Dyckhoff all day.

I didn't like this week's YHMP. I thought the end result was dull and predictable. Maybe we've seen too many of those types of spaces now.

Was the female presenter wearing her nightie when she went back to see the job? Grin

I thought 'trip hazard' when I saw the steps in Robert's design - all sharp corners and all in the same wood, so they would be very difficult to see.

I have banged on about Robert and his bench seating before - but I am going to have another whack. Not only do they look way too uncomfortable to sit on for any length of time - definitely not soft or comfortable enough to replace a good sofa - all those cushions are just going to slide around on the wooden base, so unless you sit absolutely stock still, you are going to end up half on and half off a cushion, or worse, just on the wood.

Also - I know that the main aim is to make somewhere that's as near perfect as possible for the people living there, but surely if you are spending that much money, you do need to have the odd thought about whether the work makes the house more or less saleable - and I am sure the bench seats would make it much harder to sell a house - because they dramatically reduce the flexibility of the rooms - essentially you'd be trying to sell a house to people where they would have to sit in the same place as you did (and have their TV etc in the same place too), and they'd have to accept your uncomfy seating, and get rid of their own sofas - which presumably they chose because they like them.

The only other option would be for the buyer to rip out the bench seats, which would probably mean a new floor as well as redoing the walls - which would be expensive.

@SDTG I had a similar rant last night when watching... my daughter has to tell me the calm down, it's only bench seating... so impractical, uncomfortable and dated...

They really could do with other architects ( or maybe just replace Robert).....

covetingthepreciousthings · 30/04/2020 12:14

Apparently next series will have new architects, but don't know if that's true or not.

scaryreading · 30/04/2020 13:10

I quite like Robert. He adds entertainment value and his fantastic necklace

LadyEloise · 30/04/2020 13:10

I hate bench seating and those kitchen tables/ garden tables with bench seating snd no backs on the seating.
So uncomfortable.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 30/04/2020 16:02

We had bench seating in our halls at university. I’ve loathed them ever since. Yes to different architects, although I think Laura gives the client what they need or want. Robert gives them what he thinks they need not what they actually do.

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/04/2020 16:20

There is no way that a bit of plywood with a cushion on it is as comfortable as a proper sofa. It’s not sprung for a start. Also there are no arms to lean against or proper back support.

Momniscient · 30/04/2020 17:06

I feel like Angela's getting annoyed with all of the bench seating now. She's pointedly asked him about it on camera. It's beyond a joke! Fingers crossed for next week. I agree about needing new architects next series, or just Robert.

We didn't really like this week's designs that much, but agree with a previous poster - I'm sure if they'd been told that there was potential for more budget, Laura would have been able to do more! Was a bit disappointed tbh.

BitOfFun · 30/04/2020 18:38

I think Robert must be one of those people who rarely sits down. It's the only explanation,

CoolShoeshine · 30/04/2020 22:10

Do you get the impression that Angela and Robert fancy each other or is it just me? They seem a bit flirty 😁

cushioncovers · 01/05/2020 07:54

I think this week's couple just got carried away with the project buying lots of nice extras for aesthetic reasons hence the massive over spend. I found myself wondering if they might of overstretched themselves a bit and how are they coping with current situation. Being nosy

Sertchgi123 · 01/05/2020 08:48

I actually preferred Robert’s design this week!

Carriemac · 01/05/2020 15:34

they are so flirty - we watch this as a family and the kids talk over robert and Angelas' dialogue - " Aye love youe" 'I'd like to lay you on the bench seat " etc with a strong Norn Ireland accent .

terrigrey · 01/05/2020 17:39

I preferred Roberts design this week, Laura's was so bland, you didn't need an architect to come up with that.

Bench seating: the difference is that it can go right up to the wall and is lower than most sofas, so the space looks larger/more impressive - esp on screen.

The last families sofa wasn't very nice that they bought, and I think I actually would have preferred the bench seating until I sat down.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 01/05/2020 17:45

Robert is SHITE! One trick pony with those sodding bench seats and FFS what the hell is that huge necklace all about?!

I have envy of Angela's perfectly manicured nails and flicky eyeliner though.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 01/05/2020 17:46

Oops I mean Laura.

bellabelly · 01/05/2020 17:47

He's a bit of a one trick pony, isn't he? I always love the look of his designs but I wouldn't want to live in one of them. Also, his necklace REALLY annoys me - no idea why. Carriemac, that made me laugh. My kids refuse to watch it with me, they think it's boring, the fools!

bellabelly · 01/05/2020 17:48

Hshs, cross post, chocolatesaltyballs!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 01/05/2020 17:50

😂 @bellabelly - I think he thinks he's in Take That in 1992!

bellabelly · 01/05/2020 18:00

Grin Yes! He found his look years ago and is STICKING WITH IT. Just like the ever present bench seating.

CoolShoeshine · 01/05/2020 19:24

Roberts pride would be devastated if he knew that his image has been compared to Take That, he fancies himself more of a Bob Geldof than a Gary Barlow Grin

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 01/05/2020 19:53

He needs to ditch the necklace then - problem solved!

Hamsterian · 01/05/2020 20:11

I really like Laura’s clothes, I think she has a nice style. Like Angela’s too
