Apologies if there's already a thread, but I couldn't see one. Anyone watching? Apparently this is a new series.

I'm waiting for the bench seats to make their inevitable appearance......Grin

Agreed re: budget. They got an awful lot for that £68k! It looks like it cost a lot more.

BekindStayhome · 28/04/2020 21:34

Loved her dress too! House was lovely but it was quite a straightforward/boring problem - I like seeing them having to be really creative.

Yubaba · 28/04/2020 21:35

The dress is from www.happyxnature.com/dresses/maxi-midi-dresses/N-1869150979/

covetingthepreciousthings · 28/04/2020 21:36

Where do they get the extra money from? That's a hell of a lot of extra money to just rustle up? Loan or what?

Toomuchsky · 28/04/2020 21:53

Thanks yubaba Smile

BruceAndNosh · 28/04/2020 22:01

The massive modular sofa was obviously a nod to Roberts caravan seating.

I didn't quite understand his enclosed front courtyard... Was the area off it the entrance hall by the front door or was it totally separate? The big picture window looking out on a blank wall was a bit prison like.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 28/04/2020 22:11

Loved it when the woman said no to the steps & fireplace on the playroom initially. He wasn’t happy. But not very practical for young children.

Sounded like they borrowed on the equity in the house

I didn't really like Laura's this week. I found the grey too dark and dull. I prefer Laura's designs overall because she seems to think of the future. Kids grow up and don't need to be watched 24/7 so having separate living spaces is so much better than the whole downstairs being open. Does Robert have children? His designs are hardly ever child friendly.

The show has become too predictable and boring. They need to either give Roberts head a bash on his bench seating or get in new people.

LadyEloise · 29/04/2020 18:07

Once again Laura listened to what the home owners wanted.
Next week Robert will win. They can't have him lose 3 weeks in a row.

I loved the Great Interiors Challenge with Daniel Hopwoid and Sophie Robinson and, later Kelly Hoppen

Why did they drop the show ?

covetingthepreciousthings · 29/04/2020 19:22

Yes, I think he has two and fairly young (under 10 I'd say) so it is surprising his designs don't seem to be more family friendly.

cushioncovers · 29/04/2020 19:27

Roberts designs are predictable and ugly imo

littlejalapeno · 29/04/2020 19:49

They got a lot for their money. I wasn’t such a fan of the finished design in this one. Preferred Roberts Kitchen design to Laura’s and liked the one they went with less.

Really liked the courtyard idea, it would’ve opened up for a nice bit of indoors-outdoors circulation space for the kids to play through and they would have had lovely indirect light bouncing off the white wall. That bit tacked on to Laura’s layout would’ve won it for me. Robert doesn’t pay enough attention to the utility and storage spaces, anyone with kids knows those are the bits you need to get right, which is why families go for Laura’s designs. They’re just much more customisable to the family needs whereas with Roberts you feel like you have to bend to a very fixed vision (fixed in place much like bench seating) because architecture and everyday people don’t really want that in the end. A stove on the stairs to the playroom? I’m glad she called him on it.

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/04/2020 20:45

I actually liked Robert’s design to a degree this time.
I liked the hallway storage for coats and shoes.
However the steps down from the play area straight onto a wood burner? That’s an accident waiting to happen.

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/04/2020 20:46

And there was another unnamed space in his design again

FlamingoAndJohn · 29/04/2020 20:53

I’m guessing it’s the stairs.

Robert’s design was pretty impressive (by his usual standards) this week. Kitchen was lovely as was the decking area in place of the conservatory. The multi level living room let it down but surely the could have left off that bit? Also the clients were acting as though the open shelves in the kitchen were a deal breaker, surely they realised that they could be replaced in practice with cupboards. Although it was refreshing that the lady openly criticised some aspects of the designs rather than just gushing over them however stupid some of the ideas are.
Laura’s design was good and as she was able to incorporate the conservatory it was therefore bigger than Roberts. The only thing I would have changed was to make the smaller reception the playroom and the larger one the living room.

Altuve · 29/04/2020 22:56

I’m actually getting a little pissed off at all the sudden increases in budget. It feels like a bit of a waste of the architects time. I’m sure if they’d been told there was an additional 70% of the budget in the pot, they would have come up with something quite different.

There was always more potential for Laura’s to go over this time because of the structural work at the back. I do think they had more chance of sticking to budget if they’d gone for Robert’s.

I too preferred his kitchen area and while I also agree that the wood burner on the steps was an accident waiting to happen, I didn’t see the problem with the steps themselves. Just teach kids to go up and down safely and there’s no problem. They were past the crawling baby stage anyway.

Am I the only one who thinks Laura dresses like a solicitor/head teacher or someone who works in a bank?
I thought Architects were a lot more trendy / creative than that? I've had a few round because I wanted to extend before C-vid and it would have amused me no end to see someone dressed like that?
Love Angela (including her dress sense) loved the first bungalow, not sure about the bath in the sitting room, especially when it was demonstrated by the lady at the end Blush.
The 5 bedroom house was just a bog-standard extension, but of course perfect for the clients.
I haven't watched the latest one - it's a bit boring to have the same architects week after week, but I like the way the programme makers aren't interested in drama or disasters, and the clients all seem happy which is lovely.

Cruddles · 30/04/2020 07:16

A lot of the time but then occasionally she turns up on a trendy or racey number, she had a very high split skirt on not long ago. I think these must be when she's due to head out to the discotheque after shooting has finished

FlamingoAndJohn · 30/04/2020 07:30

I always get cross that she’s going to be walking all over someone’s new floor in those heels! There will be marks!

Brillig · 30/04/2020 10:07

LadyEloise I really liked the Great Interior Design Challenge in its former incarnation too. I'm still grumpy that they ruined it by revamping the format, sticking in bloody Fearne Cotton and installing Michelle Ogundehin as the resident design guru. It's just not the same, somehow.
