Have no idea what it will be like, but will be interested to watch as I dont think I can cope with any more repeats of Montalbano!

Ingrid is a really strong character, overtones of Lady Macbeth!! I found her father always popping quite annoying so cheered inwardly when she told him where to get off.
Would love to see a second series but not sure where else they could take the plot.

TheMadGardener · 26/04/2020 13:36

her father always popping in is what I meant to say!

Dieu · 26/04/2020 13:54

I loved her, don't get me wrong!

Felt so bad for Karin though. Her hurt and confusion were palpable. And she was a lovely big sis.

Love that Erik turned up to the hospital in the end. He's a decent person, underneath it all.

And yes, Ingrid's dad was annoying.

BakedCam · 26/04/2020 14:31

I loved the show. I think it showed that the loveable rogue is good and the middle class overview of the dad who was lying to his wife and children for years.

I thought Ingrid was a strong female lead, I did want to smack her when she was coercing Karin into making her believe that she was going crazy.

stumbledin · 26/04/2020 15:37

Well - I had thought it would end up with Erik staying and playing happy families.

But I think all the reveals about how people saw him, ie even his girlfriend just happily junking all his stuff and wanting to do more than slum it in a container.

But can someone explain, in the fight seen between the younger twins, Adam says "did she know" and Erik hesitates and then says "no she didn't". But didn't what? Is the implication that Erik tricked Ingrid into sleeping with him? I had thought that when he left (as a young man) she was already pregnant and then married Adam thinking even if Erik came back he would be useless as a father / husband. So did I get this wrong?

But one thing I did get right (sort of) was whether it was a comedy or not. Apparently it was written as a comedy but it was only filmed much later and became this just 7 days of the illusion of the life being led not being what it was meant to be.

There is an article in the Sunday Times which is where I saw this. And apparently they aren't talking Norwegian but some dialect, and many of the cast are from the region rather than professional actors.

Really glad she gave her dad the boot!

Yes, Erik kept quiet about his identity to sleep with Ingrid. And Adam was asking him on the beach if she knew it was Erik. She didn't Sad
I honestly don't know if she was pregnant at that point. Was it because she didn't go out partying that you thought so?
My feeling was that Karin was Erik's daughter. And I got the impression he knew it too, hence keeping an eye over them through the years, and becoming teary at the funeral.

BakedCam · 26/04/2020 16:46

@stumbledin

That's a very good question regarding the question Adam put to Erik.

I think you maybe right on that one. It is a head scratcher.

Yes to the girlfriend dumping his stuff. I really felt for Erik as he watched that happening. That's the true meaning of 'watching your life flash before your eyes'

Peregrina · 26/04/2020 17:57

I think Erik is only slowly twigging that Karin is his daughter. The first tie is the flashback is where he's shagging Ingrid and she thinks he's Adam. The next time when he sees the little girl with Ingrid.

I think he was also developing a fondness for Fredrik.

Peregrina · 26/04/2020 18:05

tie?Time. Clue.

2Rebecca · 26/04/2020 22:10

We know Erik tricked Ingrid in to sleeping with him as that happened last week. Adam had gone off drinking and Ingrid came on to Erik thinking he was Adam. It's a silly question to ask though as if Ingrid knew it was Erik she'd have kept quiet about the sex to Adam where as I presume she mentioned it which is why Adam went for Erik

stumbledin · 26/04/2020 22:46

Thanks for all the scenes I missed. Or rather i was so fixated on my storyline of Erik going off leaving Ingrid pregnant that I just didn't pick up on any other clues. As they had been a couple, and why would she suddenly marry Adam?

And the scene of Erik spying on the daughter when young which I assumed to be when he got back and did the math.

And in fact this could still be right (!) and Erik being the self absorbed arsehole might have then tricked Ingrid.

One thing for sure after the speech as the funeral the daughter definitely knew.

I thought Karin was Erik's daughter or there was at least a strong possibility. I actually thought it would come out that they couldn't conceive and Fredrik was adopted.

I think Ingrid did hit Adam with a lot of force- pent up anger. Harder than she needed to. I thought she was a tough character but I liked her a lot less after the way she spoke to her father.

Peregrina · 27/04/2020 00:18

Ingrid and Erik had been an item, but then he cleared off to Indonesia for some time. Leaving an upset Ingrid behind, which must be when Adam stepped in to console her. There was the scene when Erik came back and seemed surprised that Ingrid wasn't there to meet him. I can't remember which episode it was.

RosesandIris · 27/04/2020 00:32

I wonder when we’ll get series 2? I’ve loved it.

Frazzled2207 · 27/04/2020 08:32

@Xmasbaby11
Frederik was definitely adopted. It was revealed at one point (can’t remember exactly!) that after Karin was born Ingrid couldn’t have more children. So probably a source of angst for Adam that he could never naturally rather a child with Ingrid given that Karin was probably Erik’s!

Random point - my dad used to work on child benefit cases where you’d need a dna test to prove paternity and sometimes identical twins were involved where there was genuine doubt as to who was the dad. There was never any way of conclusively proving paternity between identical twins as the dna is basically the same. I believe it’s technically possible these days but prohibitively expensive.

Halsall · 27/04/2020 13:56

DH and I assumed that Karin definitely was Erik’s, and that he’d worked it out quite a few years earlier - hence the flashback of the younger Erik watching the toddler version of Karin from a distance, then hastily getting out of the way before Ingrid saw him.

Interesting that some of you saw Ingrid as ‘tough’ and strong. We thought she was a horror! Especially when she was quite prepared to gaslight her own daughter into believing she had mental problems rather than admit that yes, she was absolutely right, it wasn't her father, it was Erik (although, erm, Erik was actually her father, iyswim).

Wingedharpy · 28/04/2020 03:01

My take on it was @2Rebecca, that the reason the young twins ended up fighting was because Ingrid had told Adam she was pregnant and he knew he hadn't had sex with her in that timeframe (given that he was gay) so it must have been Erik.
Ingrid getting pregnant was the giveaway.

Policeman knew it was Adam that was dead and not Erik, as "Adam" knew too much about the circumstances surrounding policeman's wife's car accident and death.

No need for a series 2 IMHO.

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2020 07:02

Sadly, I had friends who were identical twins killed in the World Trade Centre. I learnt form some grim reading up on this that extra PMs are done on identical twins : they never just go on DNA. There are always other marks on their bodies and dental records (none of this was necessary for my poor friends but it was just some facts I learnt...) I guess the writer of Twin didn't know that.

I did like Twin but there ere unexplained plot points : like at what exact point Adam beat up Erik. I had assumed it was the night after the sex but reading the above post, when she is pregnant might also make sense. And it didn't sit that comfortably with me that Erik actually raped Ingrid...

I did like listening to Norwegian though an picking out amusing similarities , such as 'nay problem' and 'I saw you'. It also had lots of words identical to German which I have at A Level. This spoddiness may have distracted me at points! Their culture is informal, too, isn't it? Lots of referring to authority figures by first names etc.

The are was beautiful. When we can travel again, I would love to go there.

2Rebecca · 28/04/2020 09:46

Do we know Adam was gay rather than bisexual? I presumed the ease with which Ingrid was intimate with Erik showed she and Adam regularly had sex. The how Adam knew bit was never explained

RosesandIris · 28/04/2020 12:31

I think Adam would have known because he was out with friends the night Ingrid and Ingrid had
sex. I assume she would have said something that made both of them realise it wasn’t Adam.

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2020 12:37

That's what I said to DH.

Ingrid and Ingrid Grin

RosesandIris · 28/04/2020 12:40

Oh dear! Ingrid and Erik

OmartheGoose · 28/04/2020 18:20

@Nibblets I too thought but how/when did he put the yellow ticket on Erik's car?!

I did enjoy this although there were gaping plot holes, weren't there? Ingrid would have known she wasn't sleeping with Adam, wouldn't she?

Also, when the young policeman put everything together and went to the senior police officer, citing that Karin and Trond(?) had both seen Erik after the accident, the senior woman said "we can't go on heresay" Confused Wouldn't they have sent someone out just to check out those two stories, not just dismiss them?

Still enjoyed it. Quite liked that Erik got away with it.

KayakingOnDown · 28/04/2020 19:26

What did Erik get away with though? He hadn't done anything wrong.

Could someone please explain why Frank twigged at the grave of his wife? Please? There was a lot of talk upthread about how people knew what twigged with him, and would reveal it later. But never did Grin

(I've just watched it and caught up with this thread).
