Have no idea what it will be like, but will be interested to watch as I dont think I can cope with any more repeats of Montalbano!

SPOILER - don't read if you haven't seen the last two episodes. If you have caught up - here goes. When Frank was conducting his completely irregular interview with supposedly Adam at the Police station, Adam (but really Erik) talked about Frank's wife and how she had been killed. But Adam had never met Frank until after the accident happened - we see them being introduced early on - so how would he know the first thing about Frank's late wife, including knowing her name? The Frank's boss came and chased him out of the interview room, so he probably didn't stop to think at that moment.

Later at the graveside we see Frank's daughter saying something about her mother and Erik, and at this point you can see the wheels turning in Frank's brain.

All Erik has done wrong now is impersonating Adam, and allowing Adam to be buried as him. I suppose that's some sort of crime, although I am not sure what. I am not sure if he's given false evidence. He has said things at times which are perfectly true, like when his daughter said that she saw Erik and he, acting as Adam, said no that was me you saw.

KayakingOnDown · 28/04/2020 21:20

Thanks Peregrinea, you are absolutely right. It was quite subtle though! Nicely done.

Off to Google the Lofoto Islands now...

KayakingOnDown · 28/04/2020 21:21

Lofoten, that is.

Impressed that the actor that played Ingrid was a newcomer.

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2020 21:30

Yes, it's a very big one! As is failing to report a death!

Peregrina · 28/04/2020 21:53

I can't remember who found Adam's body because it washed up at see. At the time the only missing body was assumed to be Erik. Although Erik and Ingrid thought that Adam was dead when Erik took the boat out, I don't think they could have been sure.

I got the impression that Erik was quite careful in what he said so he didn't get caught out in blatant falsehoods.

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2020 21:54

Also failing to report an accident then!

But , definitely, false burial is a big crime...

Peregrina · 28/04/2020 21:55

sea, not see!

Blatant falsehoods when talking to the Police that is. Not the blatant falsehood of pretending to be Adam!

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2020 21:57

I did find Erik's confused lying face very amusing!

The bit when The Guardian came made me titter.

Peregrina · 28/04/2020 22:02

Knowing that Ingrid had falsely identified Adam, would make him an accessory, so I suppose, like the policeman's cousin, he could be done for false statements, and withholding evidence?

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2020 22:16

Yes, but also he was there when Adam fell off the boat , so he didn't report that or the false burial. Tut Tut all round.

Anything goes in rural Norway!

stumbledin · 28/04/2020 22:54

The one who got away with it was Ingrid or in the first instance Erik agreed to help her as she thought she had killed Adam. But as he was still alive and drowned when they threw him is the sea they both got away with it.

And of course is others are right about Erik tricking Ingrid into having sex with him, ie rape, he got away with that.

My version of events that she married Adam because she was pregnant and Erik had gone away, in some ways am beginning to doubt, because of her attitude towards him. Maybe it was just a school holiday romance and nothing more? Confused

When I tried to google the island they were so small on the map that the marker totally covered them!

OP posts:
Peregrina · 28/04/2020 23:15

I thought Ingrid came on to Erik - thinking he was Adam. So does that class as rape?

The Lofoten islands aren't especially small - I have been to them. There are lots of little islands and it's not always obvious because they are connected by bridges.

KayakingOnDown · 29/04/2020 08:18

They didn't throw Adam in the sea. The boat capsized, or semi-capsized, in the storm and he fell in.

Although technically he had sex without Ingrid's consent (because she didn't know it was Erik) and that is rape, it's hard not to feel a bit sympathetic towards Erik because she was coming on strong and previously they had been dating (and she'd dumped him for his brother when he was off in Indonesia).

The islands do show on Google maps. Reading a travel blog about them, apparently they are very touristy these days. The climate is interesting, very changeable and unusually mild and temperate for being that far north, because of the Gulf Stream.

I found the language fascinating. I wonder how much of a dialect it is and how close to Norwegian. I live in NI, and I found the accent and vowels strangely similar to my own. It's weird but feel that if I learned the language I wouldn't have to change my accent that much Grin

Piggywaspushed · 29/04/2020 10:13

God, yes, I am from West of Scotland and thought the same. It is apparently a very specific dialect.

I warmed to Erik, but he was completely feckless and a useless boyfriend, which was the point , wasn't it? Both women were, in the end, freed from unhappy relationships.

Peregrina · 29/04/2020 10:14

He didn't know the boat wasn't seaworthy, but he ought to have known the weather enough to know not to put out to sea with a storm brewing.

If he had been planning to take Adam to hospital I can imagine that in some cases a quick boat trip across a sound or a fjord is quicker than going by road.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/04/2020 20:27

Finally seen 7&8. Avoided thread till then

Once shown on tv then fair game to discuss

My view

Ingrid said to ADAM along the lines last night was good or that she was preg and then said it was the night or the party

And he twigged it was Erik and not him

Hence the fight on beach. Maybe he said we didn’t have sex to Erik so when found out Ingrid was preg he Erik knew Karin was his

Not sure if they ever had sex or why they adopted fredik

Adam wasn’t dead but the boat he see on a wave and he fell off

When in the police station Erik pretending to be ADAM was talking about franks wife and The hit and run And letting it go and Adam wouldn’t have known that

When At grave daughter was saying to mum look after Erik as she knew him so frank twigged that twin was Erik and not ADAM or else he would’ve have known the hit and run stuff

Smiley face on car as frank telling Erik he knew was him

Not sure if he a s2. Hope so

I hoped Erik and ingrid would fall in love and go back to a happy marriage

Peregrina · 29/04/2020 22:02

I hoped that Ingrid and Erik could get together, but he would still have to keep up the persona of Adam. It would get easier as the years progressed, because they would develop more of a shared history.

RosesandIris · 29/04/2020 22:06

The kids would realise and so would friends though.

Wingedharpy · 30/04/2020 01:42

No.
Erik could never have lived happily posing as Adam.
He's still too much of an unwashed footloose and fancy free hippy at heart so, he'd never be settled as a family and business man.
He'd get under Ingrid's feet and drive her nuts as she's trying to build her empire.
Better it ended as it did.

Kayaking and Piggy I went to Iceland once and DH and I were fascinated by the language and how similar it sounded to certain Irish and Scottish accents. We took a guided trip at one point which involved getting a bus. There were some people sitting talking behind me and I thought they were Icelandic but after a bit I realised they were Scottish and were speaking English Grin

RosesandIris · 30/04/2020 13:17

How interesting

Halsall · 30/04/2020 13:49

Aargh no, I must proofread before posting....to be clear, they were speaking Gaelic, then switched to English, which is what made me realise they weren't Icelandic. It was the Gaelic that sounded uncannily like Icelandic, although the English had the same lilt.

KayakingOnDown · 30/04/2020 14:30

That's really interesting Halsall

I found Ingrid's voice and accent in particular very pleasing to the ear Smile

OmartheGoose · 02/05/2020 14:42

I rewatched a bit of the last episode last night, just to see the bit about Erik (as Adam) talking about Frank's wife and then Frank clicking by his wife's grave. It is very good acting once you've made the link. Grin

I also watched the funeral scene again and again, it's quite clever as Erik never lies, he just refers to "my brother". It's probably partly why when he says something like "and how you brought up our daughter", Ingrid properly understands the implication.

A bit different but for those wanting to carry on finding out about Norwegian culture in remote corners strongly recommend State of Happiness.
