It takes me longer to cut out at home because I haven't got a professional sized cutting table with a cutting mat under the fabric so I could use a rotary cutter. It would also be handy to have a technician nearby to sort out my machines, I spend a certain amount of time wrangling machinery and have, at present, given up the fight with my overlocker.

HotCrossBungle · 09/05/2020 11:37

Just caught up. Fiona definitely the right choice to go imo.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 09/05/2020 13:25

The time limits will also be because they only have the studio and crew booked for a certain length of time and need to get everything filmed, plus some extra bits with the presenters, plus some contingency time for if something goes badly wrong.

It's filmed at the Fashion Museum in Bermondsey, isn't it?

SoupDragon · 09/05/2020 13:31

It's in a warehouse near the museum but not in the museum itself.

SoupDragon · 09/05/2020 13:33

It's on Tanner Street but An odd piece of trivia for fact fans – the exterior and interior shots are actually of different buildings in the same street. When you see the sewers inside the haberdashery they are at Number 41, but when the camera pans out to show the front of the building they are actually shooting Number 1. The magic of television

HotCrossBungle · 09/05/2020 14:52

Why? Is the outside of No 41 grotty? I love the fashion museum, they've had some brilliant exhibitions on over the last few years.

SoupDragon · 09/05/2020 15:08

I couldn't find no. 41 - I think the building is I n a courtyard behind some modern buildings so it might just be to do with camera angles and bing able to pan out far enough.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/05/2020 08:23

Are we continuing this thread tonight or will there be a new one?

Roussette · 13/05/2020 11:18

This one like we always have?

Looking forward to tonight. Stretchy exercise gear I think. I predict carnage Grin

Binglebong · 13/05/2020 11:57

Am I the only one who tunes in half expecting a covid episode? Technical challenge- how many masks can you make in an hour. Remake - pillowcases into scrub bags. Final can't remember the name perfectly matched scrubs.

I know it won't happen but I still keep thinking it's going to!

fairycrossthemersey · 13/05/2020 12:04

I've NC since my previous comment but I did manage to find a very simple dress pattern and made a lovely dress for my GD. I even learnt to sew button holes Smile

and found out that the little sticky out bit on the side of my machine is a thread cutter Blush

GeraltOfRivia · 13/05/2020 12:34

I've been inspired and ordered a skirt pattern and fabric. Fingers crossed

Binglebong · 13/05/2020 14:15

Ooh lovely! I hope you'll share pics.

All I've sewn recently is ridiculously complicate face masks.

fairycrossthemersey · 13/05/2020 14:28

Deep breath, here's my dress. It's even lined!

I’d like to see them try quilting (cos I love quilting) - they wouldn’t have time to do a massive one but could do mini quilts for the transformation challenge. I think it would be a good test cos it’s a more ‘arty’ area of sewing where they’d have to think about colour and composition. It would also make for a banging history segment.

I had actually had a tiny fan gorl moment when Kate Strastidin appeared to talk about smocking - I follow her on Instagram and her fashion history posts are a joy.

Haggisfish · 13/05/2020 14:33

Wow that’s lovely!

fairycrossthemersey · 13/05/2020 14:39

Thank you @haggisfish

Hope I get to see her wearing it while it still fits!

GeraltOfRivia · 13/05/2020 14:59

That dress is gorgeous

Binglebong · 13/05/2020 16:14

That looks great! I love the fabric.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 13/05/2020 16:21

Yeah i sewed a face mask yesterday too Bingle. Not very inspiring!

SoupDragon · 13/05/2020 16:25

Great dress!

I have also made a face mask. SO inspiring 😂😂

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/05/2020 16:31

Perhaps Dancer Boy would have come into his own this week. Grin

That dress is very sweet fairy.

I'm tempted to do a couple of masks, not really because I think we should be wearing them, but half of Facebook is and I have FOMO. Blush

Binglebong · 13/05/2020 16:34

Have ti admit I chickened out of wearing it shopping - no one else was and it felt a bit overkill in a low infection area. Blush

Binglebong · 13/05/2020 16:35

This is the one I did- type C.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2020 16:49

I appear to have defective ears though. They don't hold the elastic up and just bend down 😂😂
