If I use an ear saver it just slides down my head. Blush Going to have a high ponytail to wedge it if I ever pluck up the courage to wear in public.

JunoJigglewick · 13/05/2020 17:01

I've made masks - wore one in Tesco last week. Felt a bit weird and like I was a CBeebies presenter crossed with a ninja (bright pink fabric with raindrops and umbrellas on it) but I wasn't the only one in a mask.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2020 17:03

I'm going to need a bun or ponytail too 😂

I can't work out what I've done wrong

JunoJigglewick · 13/05/2020 17:05

Got distracted and posted too soon!
I had to secure the elastic by looking over a high pony tail too. Maybe it's just bendy ears?

Is the elastic too short? I can't figure it out.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2020 17:10

If I adjust the elastic so there's more on top (it's a round the head design, not just over the ear) it's better but I think it's going to need adjustment and practice.

Good job I don't go out 😂

JunoJigglewick · 13/05/2020 17:12

soup I spent longer than I care to admit to posing in front of the mirror to see what was the most effective way to arrange the elastic. And because I wear glasses, which way wouldn't end up with me steaming up the lenses.

I'd be better just not going out. But now I've made myself 5 masks I feel like they should be used... (I've also made 6 for my parents and some for my sister. So not totally selfish sewing... Wink )

HotCrossBungle · 13/05/2020 17:24

I've also made a couple of masks, the first was a pleated rectangle with elastic and had the same problem as everyone else. The second one was a much more structured affair with material ties which I think I will cope better with. Haven't worn either yet but am only going out for walks, husband doing all the shopping.

Looking forward to tonight's programme, not sure who my money is on to go out next. I can imagine that it's a bit of a wildcard week because some of the 'better' sewers might be very inexperienced with lycra and what not.

In a bit sad Monkseal isn't blogging this series, I've really enjoyed his write-ups in previous years.

iklboo · 13/05/2020 17:43

Ooh that's lovely fairy. Fab fabric. I remember why I didn't take up sewing after school. Ironing. I hate ironing.

fairycrossthemersey · 13/05/2020 18:16

I have had the fabric offcut for a few years now - I have a dress in the same fabric, but we definitely won't be wearing them at the same time!

I ordered it from somewhere in teh UK - I'll see if I can did out the old emails. They had lots of unusual designs.

Roussette · 13/05/2020 19:55

Fairy lovely dress!

Yes, Monkseal is brilliant, loved his blogs.

Wolfcub · 13/05/2020 21:01

Evening all

dillite · 13/05/2020 21:03

What an adorable dress fairy! Well done!

Good evening everyone!

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/05/2020 21:05

Here we are again.

SoupDragon · 13/05/2020 21:07

Patrick in rugby kit...?

RomaineCalm · 13/05/2020 21:07

Have we lost everyone?

This isn't an easy challenge.

Halsall · 13/05/2020 21:07

That's the pattern I'm using too, Bingle - it's the best one I've seen, I think. Other people have brought out a few variations on it now, but it's been around for a while, I think (it's been brought up to date for Covid use).

dillite · 13/05/2020 21:08

I hate plackets. They are my nemesis.

Halsall · 13/05/2020 21:09

Yes. Plackets are evil.

dillite · 13/05/2020 21:09

What fabrics are you all using for your masks? I am planning on making a few from fabric remnants this weekend. I have velvet, cotton, upholstery, canvas, bed sheets.

Jellykat · 13/05/2020 21:11

Loving Joes sparkly tracksuit!

Wolfcub · 13/05/2020 21:11

Ambulance lady seems to be doing a good steady job

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 13/05/2020 21:11

Any fabric you can wash at a high temperature!!

Roussette · 13/05/2020 21:11

There's a lot of panic tonight! Stretchy fabrics are a 'mare
