Oh FUCK!

I forgot (or rather, I had convinced myself it was on on Friday . . . )

Going to catch-up before I read any further.

iklboo · 30/04/2020 14:01

Esme is very dry. I think most of what she says gets edited out because she's quite saucy.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2020 14:03

In the first episode she said it was her farting, not the mannequin. 😂

iklboo · 30/04/2020 14:11

Alex Danceman was pretty lazy and tried to wing it too much. Right Decision.

He does look a bit like American actor Matt Lanter though.

I liked the winning towelling tunic, the way Peter had done the stripes diagonal in particular was flattering. Love Esme too. Danceman was a shoe-in to be next but I was very worried about Fiona for a while.

biscuitcakes · 30/04/2020 14:15

Yes! Love watching. Joe Lycett is a genius presenter for this! Was it the lovely lady with the large fringe before?

LIZS · 30/04/2020 14:17

I don't think in previous series invisible zips and shirt collars were required quite so early. General standard of shirts was really good.

Yes, Joe took over from Claudia Winkleman.

GoldenFlaps · 30/04/2020 14:45

I thought Esme was quite nasty on a couple of occasions last night. The one that springs to mind is when she said something or other was wrong (I think with the trousers) and the contestant asked "Is that because of ..." and Esme said "No, it's because of your sewing" or words to that effect. Uncalled for.

Haggisfish · 30/04/2020 15:16

I don’t think it was uncalled for.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2020 15:17

She was right.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 30/04/2020 15:48

I love Esme. And Joe. And Patrick (goes without saying)

The right one went.

One sewer will now always be "Period pants" Woman.to me.

Nicole is growing on me - I really found her irritating in the first episode, but I like her now.

Bletchley Park Woman is my favourite to win overall. And I hadn't realised she was a surgeon! (Though I guessed she was "something medical" because she had "The Look".

If I ever need lung surgery I want her to do it - I bet her scars are lovely and neat! (I'm lucky to have a rather beautiful caesarian scar - well, compared to everybody else's that I've seen, and I've seen a few).

GoldenFlaps · 30/04/2020 15:53

Esme may well have been right, I just thought the way she said it was a bit nasty. Maybe just me though Smile

Roussette · 30/04/2020 16:27

My favourite is long haired grey contestant. I just find her so beautiful and charming with a wonderful smile and I've liked everything she's done so far, especially the stunning tea dress.

If I had to plump for a favourite, it would be her.

Haggisfish · 30/04/2020 16:29

I like Therese as well. I ‘may’ have just bought some of this...Blush www.dalstonmillfabrics.co.uk/japanese-koi-cotton-print-jade.html

iklboo · 30/04/2020 16:57

No, it's because of your sewing" or words to that effect. Uncalled for.

No it wasn't. It's a sewing competition and he was - again - trying to blame everything else for it looking rubbish.

iklboo · 30/04/2020 16:58

Therese (grey haired lady) reminds me of one of my favourite colleagues I used to work with. She's had quite an eventful life and had lots of great stories.

Stellaris22 · 30/04/2020 17:27

I don't see anything wrong with Esme's 'it's your sewing' comment. The sewer was trying to blame the fabric, but it was the sewing at fault. I love Esme and think she's very fair.

The standard this year is exceptionally high. There's about 1-2 more people I can see going and then it's going to be really hard to call unless mistakes happen.

Still giggling after Patrick's 'sick swans' Grin

BitOfFun · 30/04/2020 18:32

I'm missing some of the instructional detail of previous series, I think. You know, where they explain why it's tricky to get collars to lie flat, etc.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 30/04/2020 18:59

I like Esme. She's slyly funny and as far away from a potty school sewing teacher as it's possible to be.

Fiona is my pick for the next sewer to leave. She made similar mistakes to Alex by using the wrong fabric. I'm still not warming to Nicole; she doesn't take criticism very well and she "sources" things instead of just buying them or ordering them like a normal person.

Liz and Clare are my favourites. Liz's palazzo pants were great and I like that she has a different take on style to most of the others. I was also surprised that Clare was a surgeon as I had her down as a primary school teacher or some sort of church worker.

Haggisfish · 30/04/2020 19:18

I like Clare and I actually like Nicole as well but I know what you mean. Fiona keeps running out of time.

Egghead68 · 30/04/2020 19:20

I like Esme. One of the beardy men is my favourite (the one who had to add an extra panel to his tea dress last week) along with the woman from the Caribbean. I thought Bletchley worked in a church too. I’m finding Joe Lycett’s jokes fall a bit flat this series.

SpeedofaSloth · 30/04/2020 19:23

I have a couple of things made from that koi carp fabric, it's beautiful.

FeltCarrot · 30/04/2020 19:59

@Binglebong @Wolfcub Liz was at Saltburn beach in the NE, I recognise the accent, pier and funicular!

Binglebong · 30/04/2020 20:04

Thanks Felt! I shall put it on my post lockdown visit list. Grin
