lifelongfrugaleer · 30/04/2020 20:38

Oo X post.

CaptainCallisto · 30/04/2020 21:36

See, I thought Fiona's "Could that be because of the facing?" comment (that Esme answered with "I think it's because of your sewing") was her meaning "Do you think it's pulled like that because I messed up the facing?" rather than any implication that the pattern was at fault.

I think she was aiming for "Yeah, I know, I stuffed that bit up and it pulled everything else out of whack" - sort of an acknowledgement of her own failings on the garment. She seemed a bit taken back by Esme's comment, and I think it's because she didn't mean it the way it was taken at all...

The right person went. Alex's towel transformation was still a towel. Much like Angillia last week.

There's a few that I like Liz, Clare, Therese, I am warming to Nicole. I love Hazel's pattern choices.

I don't get the Joe Lycett time bits where you see him say one line to a model, stop to announce the time and then it goes to something else.

The first series on Really is so different to the current one.

Mischance · 30/04/2020 22:47

It should be renamed "The Great British Innuendo Fest" after the last episode! Smile

Frenchfancy · 01/05/2020 07:27

Caught up last night. I think in general the standard of sewing this year is pretty high. Other than Alex and Fiona the Palazzo pants were all good. The transformation challenge is always a ... Challenge. Alex's was hope less, Matt's was not much better. I liked Ali's and Nicole's. Peter's front seams desperately needed a good press.

There were some lovely shirts. I did like the winning one, though it would have been better if the front had been matched. The Llama fabric didn't do it for me, although dd3 is now desperate for a llama shirt.

Ali is my favourite, but I have been following her blog for years so it feels like I know her.

Frenchfancy · 01/05/2020 07:30

@Binglebong and @KatyMac have you tried lekala patterns? They are custom sized so you don't need an fba. Cheap too.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/05/2020 07:41

I don't get the Joe Lycett time bits where you see him say one line to a model, stop to announce the time and then it goes to something else.I think the joke is that he's pretending to talk about football or whatever, bonding with the lads, then cuts to the script. The models are deliberately ignoring him.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 01/05/2020 13:12

That's what I think Captain - and I really like them.

CaptainMyCaptain · 01/05/2020 13:35

If anyone is on Instagram have a look at #memademay2020 and get some inspiration.

@Frenchfancy - no I haven't but I do like the look of them - some of them are free (squee!!)

I'm doing a simplicity atm that does B/C/D cups and I like that too

iklboo · 01/05/2020 14:51

I like the Joe Lycett cut bits. They're a bit of an 'in' joke. His stand up is funny. DS loves him.

Haggisfish · 01/05/2020 15:01

The joe Lycett bits are where he’s just talking about something totally random to the models-he’s done ant nests, isas, football...it’s a running joke.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/05/2020 20:53

The models last week played along much better than this week's crop. (Is there a collective noun for a group of models? A runway perhaps.)

Binglebong · 01/05/2020 22:06

Re pattern matching. I mentioned a while back making bags that needed pattern matching. It was a big pattern and because of seams you have overlap so you can't just use bits next to each other. It's very wasteful! Anyway, I found the cloth some of the pieces had come from and despite the terrible laying out I thought it might provide a giggle.

Some of this weeks models had a feel of 'person grabbed off the street' about them. All lovely to look at but but very few showed off the clothes well. Last weeks were super.

iklboo · 02/05/2020 11:47

A pose of models? Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2020 12:20

A Narcissus of models?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2020 12:21

You could make some lovely facemarks out of that remainder material "Bingle*

SchadenfreudePersonified · 02/05/2020 12:21

"Bespoke"

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 02/05/2020 12:48

The models didn't get Joe at all last night did they?

They are very clearly told to be poker faced at all times (on camera at least). It’s part of the joke.

I did like it when wax print lady’s model was reassuring her, telling her “you’ve nailed this” or something.

I don’t think Claire is a surgeon, she is a hospital consultant but on the medical side, not the surgical side. She was talking about doing sutures last night but all doctors learn sutures in early training before they specialise.

Claire is a lung specialist. I keep wondering how she and the golfing paramedic are getting on on the frontline right now.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/05/2020 13:11

Yes, I've wondered how Claire is doing. Bless her and all the rest of them.

CaptainMyCaptain · 02/05/2020 13:11

Nhs not sewing bees I mean.

Binglebong · 02/05/2020 13:12

It will be used for something Schadenfraud ! Bags were made about 18 months ago do I've been keeping it for themythical perfect thing for a while.

Ulysses · 02/05/2020 13:52

Did you see the painting Joe’s mum did of Esme? It was outstanding.
