What a lovely episode for patterned fabrics and summery styles. I really enjoyed that.

Binglebong · 29/04/2020 23:46

Full bust adjustments are evil.

HotCrossBungle · 30/04/2020 00:06

@KatyMac ... what 7 words were they?

Just caught up on iPlayer. Yes to Alex going. Esme hilarious, she doesn't mince her words.

FLOrenze · 30/04/2020 07:26

Does any one else watch Making the Cut and Next in Fashion. I love Sewing Bee but these people are on another level.

KatyMac · 30/04/2020 07:33

Something like "to keep proportions use your upperbust size"

So as I am a GG/H, in order to fit my books in I had been making 18-22 now I make a 12-14 (occasionally even a 10) and do the fba - that was the armhole/shoulder and ribs all fit much, much better

Totally changed my dressmaking for me and made making for others easier too

SoupDragon · 30/04/2020 07:45

Is it the same here - most people could follow the basic pattern, but the real technique is in the pattern matching and invisible zips?

I think so. I could probably make the garments but the zips would be hit and miss and lord knows what the buttonholes would be like.

Esme hilarious, she doesn't mince her words.

Absolutely! Thing it, she's doing it to be helpful rather than mean which takes the edge off a bit (for the viewers anyway!)

Roussette · 30/04/2020 08:37

Yes, on Esme! And with Danceman I do think he needed telling. I honestly think he thought he was way better than he was.

My DD reckoned he had blagged his way on to the series Grin

CaptainMyCaptain · 30/04/2020 09:23

Danceman was a bit like the young man on Bake Off who didn't go in the first week, although he should have, but went in the second week. he couldn't bake at all. Why was he there at all? It's almost as if they had a formula.

Soup I regularly give thanks to all the gods of sewing for the buttonhole function on my machine Grin

SoupDragon · 30/04/2020 10:09

My machine also has what I believe is an automatic buttonhole feature. I have not attempted it though!

Peaseblossom22 · 30/04/2020 10:14

The standard of the beach shirts was really good . I loved the one which won and the pin tucked one . Still baffled by the make though, I loved the little towelling jacket, very wearable and practical but instead mr impractical won again !

Halsall · 30/04/2020 10:29

Once you get the hang, it's a complete boon, Soup! Perhaps now is the time to grapple with it? Smile

I remember having to hand-sew buttonholes in school dressmaking lessons and I'm never doing that again if I can help it.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2020 10:40

I think we did hand sewn buttonholes in school too. Although the machine we had at home had a step by step button hole feature.

Stellaris22 · 30/04/2020 10:44

I loved that episode, and the invisible pockets on the winning shirt, just wow.

Roussette · 30/04/2020 12:17

Next week is children's clothes. I think they do a fancy dress outfit?

SoupDragon · 30/04/2020 12:19

I wonder what the Drag queen costume maker will come up with...? 😂😂

KatyMac · 30/04/2020 12:54

@Binglebong I used to agree now I have it sorted - that 2 hour course was a lifesaver!

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 30/04/2020 12:58

Glad I've found you all! DDs and I love sewing Bee.

The models didn't get Joe at all last night did they?

HotCrossBungle · 30/04/2020 13:22

Thanks @KatyMac I'm not up to that just yet but will definitely need to get my head around it when the time comes.

Egghead68 · 30/04/2020 13:37

Catching up. Right person went.

Binglebong · 30/04/2020 13:40

@katymac I think I need to work on them a lot. I believe the pattern standard is B - I'm kk so the changes are massive.Sad

Toddlerteaplease · 30/04/2020 13:43

Am I the only person who thinks that Esme is totally lacking in charisma. She's so dull.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2020 13:47

She isn't. She has a very dry sense of humour I think.

5foot5 · 30/04/2020 13:49

I agree that Alex was the right person to go, but I thought he seemed a very nice young man and vert entertaining so I am sorry he wasn't a better sewer and could stay longer.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 30/04/2020 13:54

No! I love Esme.
