I am not a huge fan of Brian whatshisname but Jim Davidson is being at total tosser to him and I am disappointed with Paul Young for standing there and saying nothing.

OP posts:

So basically, a man of 54 has got to change his opinions because some jumped up reality "star" is offended by his opinions!!! What about tolerance for everyone's opinion? What about people who find homosexuality offensive? They have to change their opinions? What do you class as normal then?

WinkyWinkola · 12/09/2007 21:45

Jim Davidson is also a wife beater. But like that Gascoigne creature, that's ok because he's a 'national treasure'. He's a loathesome twat.

TheArmadillo · 12/09/2007 21:51

that man's opinions are offensive and nasty. He treats other people like pieces of shit cos of the colour of their skin or cos of their sexual preferences.

He was very abusive to a friend of mine, purely on the basis that said friend was black. Started on him for no reason when they were introduced.

I do think a man who beats his wives repeatedly should learn that this isn't a good way to behave.

So yes I do think he should learn to change his opinions and stop being a nasty nasty man.

IF it wasn't JD, if it was another racist homophobic wife-beater, one that wasn't famous - would you be saying, oh we can't expect him to change his opinions.

IF he was the husband of a poster on here, if he had repeatedly beaten her, abused her, and spoutedly abuse at her friends and family because they were black/gay would you be telling her 'oh you can't expect him to change his opinions at his age'

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 21:51

Usborne we strive for a tolerant society and he ridicules minorities for a living.
None of the contestants on that show are Nobel prizewinners but he is scraping the bottom of the barrel and him and his ugly opinions should not be given airtime in this day and age. He promotes hatred, he has no place on our tv's.

Moomin · 12/09/2007 21:52

what do you think is 'normal' then, Usbourne???

From what I watched the other night JD actually said he wanted to leave because if he didn't he wouldn't be able to stop himself being racist and homophobic towards Brian Dowling... so instead of being able to discuss things like an adult, or even argue coherently or even rant unintelligibly, he was actually saying (to paraphrase) 'I will be calling you an Irish Queer soon'...

That's pretty awful IMO

TheArmadillo · 12/09/2007 21:53

oh and it's not just about some 'jumped up reality star' being offended by his opinions.

IT's about a hell of a lot of people not just being offended by his opinions, but being disgusted by them.

If you can't see why people think this man is 'an ignorant shit' as the title states then I think you need to have a good hard look at yourself and ask why you think it's ok to treat other human beings like pieces of shit because of nothing they themselves have done.

LIZS · 12/09/2007 22:01

He's proved what a 1-dimensional lowlife he is . Somehow I'd assumed there was actually another side to him than his lewd "comedy" act and the alcoholic wife beater label - sadly not. Hope he isn't booked for panto anywhere anytime soon.

Usborne · 12/09/2007 22:03

So people are not entitled to their own opinions? I have been racially abused because I'm Irish. If my dad had taken offence and sued every person who had racially abused him, he'd never be out of court!! I was accused of the Birmingham pub bombings and I'm not even old enough to have done them!!! Just because I'm Irish, doesn't make me a terrorist.

I personally think the producers should have known better than to put Jim in a programme with a gay man. They must have known that they were never going to be friends. I think they set the whole thing up for the ratings.

Moomin · 12/09/2007 22:07

The surely Usbourne you must know how horrible it is when people judge someone based just on the colour of their skin, their nationality, their religion, their gender or their sexuality. If you've been the victim of racist abuse, it doesn't mean you have the right to do it yourself!

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 22:08

So do you think that Jim Davidson is above making offensive jokes about Irish people? Don't be so bloody naive, he is a low life who has made a career out of promoting hatred and he is exactly the type of person who would have abused your father.
Your father may have felt he had to put up with discrimination in times past but people don't have to now.

Moomin · 12/09/2007 22:09

and weren't the ignorant people who made those ridiculous comments against you 'entitled to their own opinions', if we're using your argument?

LIZS · 12/09/2007 22:10

He knew he was playing to the cameras and he knew what he was saying was offensive. He has no self control and was drinkign like a fish even though he has a longstanding alcohol problem, likely to adversely affect his behaviour. I'm sure producers knew the potential issues but how his agent could possibly have advised him it might do him any favours to appear defeats me.

Usborne · 12/09/2007 22:16

So suddenly everybody is politically correct? Sir Trevor Mcdonald called Bernard Manning a white, fat "b*d" and that was judged not to have been offensive. Why? When BM said black b*d, he was called a racist. I don't see the difference. Can you explain it?

TheArmadillo · 12/09/2007 22:16

So it's completely fine that someone is not only allowed but paid to go on national television and broadcast to the nation vile hated filled rants against other races/creeds/religions/sexual preferences, but I'm not allowed to have the opinion that he is a complete vile piece of shit.

IT's perfectly fine for this person to abuse others both physically and verbally cos we're all allowed to have our opinion.

Oh and you didn't answer the question about if it was a poster on the receiving end of this, would you still think it was all fine and dandy?

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 22:18

OMG You just can't actually be a BERNARD MANNING fan as well as a Jim Davidson fan. Are you for real??
Trevor McDonald was technically correct BM wasn't.

startouchedtrinity · 12/09/2007 22:21

Didn't watch but what is disappointing is ITV giving this has-been any air time knowing he will screw up and a) push up their ratings and b) make them look good when they throw him off the programme.

His opinions and behaviour are undoubtably horrible but IMO ITV set him up. He's no longer famous, his brand of 'humour' has gone, he has a drink problem ...it's just ITV courting controversy.

Moomin · 12/09/2007 22:23

I take it you're referring to TMcD saying that about Bernard Manning on that topical thing he did 'Newsknight' was it? So I'm presuming TMcD was making a joke about BM. Think it's called IRONY.

Usborne · 12/09/2007 22:23

Armadillo, that's exactly what bin Laden and his cronies do on a daily basis. They think their extremist views are right and just. Doesn't make it right, but everyone has a right to an opinion and doesn't this country have the right for free speech? Nobody is forcing you to listen. Like I said the producers set everybody in the kitchen up.

No, it isn't fine and dandy. Get out if it's happening to you.

Moomin · 12/09/2007 22:24

Jim Davison

Bernard Manning

Bin Laden

BINGO! I win!!!!

Usborne · 12/09/2007 22:30

JD and BM were from a generation who were brought up with these opinions. If you are bought up with abuse, you go on to abuse. Doesn't make it right. I know plenty of people who find homosexuality offensive, have they to keep their opinions to themselves?

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 22:33

Yes they do.

Usborne · 12/09/2007 22:33

I'm defending people's right to an opinion.

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 22:34
Hmm
Usborne · 12/09/2007 22:34

Citizen - why?

Wars have been fought over a persons right to an opinion.

CitizenCarmenere · 12/09/2007 22:41

When you jump to the defence of ugly bigotted opinions like those of JD or BM it reflects very badly on you.
Of course I believe in freedom of speech but promoting hatred is against the law. These 'comedians' peddle watered down opinions of racial superiority of the type that is promted by the extreme right.
fine if you want to identify yourself with that, go right ahead but don't expect your opinions to go unchallenged.
